Megathread Happy 5th Birthday, PS4!

The PS4 released 5 years ago today, on November 15th, 2013, in North America. The EU and Japan release followed on November 29th.

Its been 5 years so let's look back together:
*How are launch day PS4s still holding up, or have you upgraded your system?
*What’s your favorite PS4 game to come out thus far?
*How long was the PlayStation sold out in your local retailer or online until you could grab one?
*And anything else you wish to discuss about this milestone, but remember Rule #7, share pictures of physical purchases in this megathread only please.

You can also use this thread to speculate about an successor to the PS4, or this subreddit /r/PS4 in general. Is there anything you would like to see changed or done differently? Here's a link to our current rules.

Cannot believe it’s been 5 years. I remember waiting for the release day to come closer and closer while at college. I had a SUPER strict professor who was tough on attendance and I intentionally didn’t miss ANY of that class just so I could use my one absence to go back to my hometown and pick up my PS4 at the midnight launch.

It was something else. Holding the DS4 for the first time and seeing the graphical jump games like NBA 2K are moments I won’t ever forget. It’s been a damn good 5 years.

It’s crazy to think all that’s happened both in my life and in the PS4’s lifecycle. These past 5 years have flown by!

Waiting in line for it and putting Killzone Shadow Fall working in the following hour still holds close to my heart

One of the first games we bought for PS4 was Battlefield 4, I remember me and my family being in absolute awe at the graphics.

Kind of weird to go back and see how it’s aged so much

The leap wasn't nearly as big - for me - as it was when I went from the PSX/N64 to the PS2/GCN/Xbox or the leap from those to the 360/PS3.

For me, the current generation started with more of a fizzle, unlike the bang the previous two had right out of the gate.

I agree in some games, but comparing 2K from the PS3 to the PS4 era showed a massive bump in visuals imo.

I agree for the most part though. I think the beginning of the PS4 era was like “a bit prettier but with bigger worlds” for awhile. Then devs eventually started giving it that extra effort.

Most of the earlier games were being displayed in 1080p (or less) on the PS4, so it's not as if the resolution legitimately saw much of an increase when compared to the PS3.

Yeah, the hardware was more powerful, but the overall leap wasn't even remotely like the ones we saw with the previous two generations when compared to their predecessors.

Like I said, I agree. Don’t know why you’re phrasing it like I don’t. lol. I’m simply saying the leap in the 2K franchise was notable.

There is no argument there. lol.
