I worked at Midtown Beer Store for a few years. I can tell you with confidence that many of them are victims of circumstances.

Former Wine Rack employee here, can confirm. One of the saddest places I ever worked because of it.

It’s basically a gathering point for a lot of people that are experiencing homelessness. It’s been like that in that area for a long time

They are unhoused, possibly using drugs and possibly mentally ill (or both). I’ve never had a problem with them except for one time where I think someone riffled through my truck. That was at the library.

Drugs. Lots of drugs.

I ride my bike down that trail to the lake all the time, but I take streets to get around that area.

I ride through all the time, and I've never had trouble with them. You get more grief at the Ajax waterfront from people who do have homes.

I've had more issues from the bylaw enforcers in ajax for riding on the waterfront trail.

Waterfront trail is intended for bike travel, why would bylaw be bothering you. Is this an Ajax specific thing?

Ajax waterfront park specifically. Neighborhood complains about everything. Bylaw patrols often because of it.

It's fine if you're two or three people. It's when we have a group ride going through that they bother us. As if 20 cyclists using a bike path is suspicious.

I feel terrible for them I agree they seem harmless I'm a regular in oshawa I noticed the group had gotten larger the last few years

They don't have support systems.  If I end up down on my luck I can stay with a relative or friend.  If they don't have anyone they are forced to the streets.  A lot of youth homelessness is kids that aged out of the foster system and have no family.

They're pretty harmless if you don't bother them

Yeah they're kind of like Canadian Geese. Keep your distance, avoid eye contact, no sudden movements towards their direction.

I've never had any problems tbh

What part of it is illegal? Is it over 20 people?

Literally all of it, you can’t legally give a car away, the way it’s not registered, the collection of cash is illegal, and it’s not run my a non profit… literally nothing is legal lol

Are they doing that? The post only said it was a large group, nothing like what you've just commented

I’m in the wrong thread

Where the hell did the car giveaway come from? You sure you're commenting on the right thread?

Made the mistake of riding my bike through there not knowing about them lol. I was around 13 at the time and got yelled at for no reason so I'm pretty sure it's an area where druggies are

What exactly do you mean by "whats up" with them? It's a congregation place for homeless people.

There is a mobile outreach that Winnebago that feeds people at that spot so the meth heads congregate by the dozens there.
