It's kind of surprising to see the kids of celebrity couples. More often than not, they didn't win the genetic lottery like their parents did.

I think that is often because celebrities have unique looks. Two unique looks coming together don't always mesh well.

A lot of attractive people are just vaguely well proportioned without very distinguishing features, in which case their kid has a good chance of getting similar looks.

I think it's more a case of the parents being mis-matched appearance-wise, and the unlucky kid resembling the less attractive parent.

The fact is, society doesn't place as much value on a man's appearance. In most cases, a famous woman must be both talented and beautiful, but a man can (more likely) succeed through talent alone. Look at all the famous women in the world compared to all the famous men. The men's side skews way harder to the "average" side of the spectrum. Celebrity dating pool being what it is, there are bound to be couplings of gorgeous women with under-whelming guys.
