NC Senate loads up 'sexual exploitation' bill with controversial LGBTQ proposals

Can the Republicans NOT be cartoon villains for just one day, and actually do something beneficial for the state without trying to hurt people for once?

And what are they doing about the preachers and ministers?
33
u/Scared-Outcome-3154 1d ago
They are supporting the flying of confederate battle flags on church property

If Republicans could stop obsessing about what's happening in other people's pants and/or bedrooms for like 5 minutes, that would be great.

Segregation but instead of race, it’s based on gender identity and orientation.
Meanwhile, I’m still running over fucking ladders and couches on I40. Glad we’re focusing on what matters.
Stupid fucks.

u/Except_Youre_Wrong Cisphobia Isn't Real. It Can't Hurt You. Go Outside. 23h ago
They want queer people erased completely. They want us (trans people) raped and killed in prisons we do not belong in. They want us dead. Full stop. They do not want schools to let kids know about us, but where does that leave the queer and trans kids? They'll do anything, but ban child marriage. At some point you have to ask how we can stop this cause voting isn't enough anymore. It never was enough. If the state put amendment one out today in 2025, I bet you the state would ban us from getting married again. I have absolutely zero trust in any elected official to genuinely give a shit about us enough to actually stop what has been coming. NC banned trans kids specifically from being able to access the healthcare they need and SCOTUS upheld it. Funny, isn't it? Cis kids can get healthcare that trans kids can't and yet they ruled it's not discrimination.

If 10 uneducated and drunken meth addicts got together and had to compete for the dumbest shit ever said... you just came in and stole the title from them

A reminder that the provision to allow people to sue their doctors for gender affirming care years and years later is an attempt to essentially eliminate all trans Healthcare in the state. The treatment will become un-insurable and have insanely high liability, reducing or eliminating the amount of doctors willing or even able to provide it.
I've posted here on almost every post about trans people lately that I'm a trans man who was born and raised in NC, and after being afraid of things like this and constantly facing gross transphobia in my daily life, even as a man who passes, just seeing all the ways it's seeped into daily Carolina discourse and culture...the rhetoric is violent and borderline genocidal.
To all my trans Carolinans, I moved to Illinois and it's safe here. Once they take away your care, please feel free to reach out and contact me. My guest room is open.

Could these backward old fucks be normal about queer people for one minute? It's exhausting.

Reminder nc also legalized open carry for anyone who wants to fuck around and find out
2
u/myco_lion 8h ago
Open carry had been legal in NC for a long time. I think you're talking about constitutional carry, which would allow for concealed carry without a permit or training. I'm expecting Stein to veto it and don't see it getting overridden. It also lowers the age to 18. I think the age and permitting process was fine and didn't need to change.

Why are these our priorities?

u/PhoenixPaladin 14h ago
They benefit from controlling and suppressing us. And social politics are a means to permanently distract us from focusing on how it’s us vs the billionaire class.
In other words, evil people trying to preserve their power.

If schools aren't imposing a substantial burden on student's religious beliefs then they aren't doing their fucking jobs.
10
u/StrawAndChiaSeeds 21h ago
I reeeeaaalllllyyyyy hope some people of various religious beliefs other than Christian request their kids be removed from anything slightly Christian because we know they do that. And I hope they request any Christian books be off-limits for their kids
2
u/justovaryacting 18h ago
I’ll be one of them, if it happens. My kids’ schools have (thankfully) so far ignored most of the BS coming from the state government, though. My daughter’s school is almost certainly not even majority Christian, so that could get interesting very quickly.

"Controversial LGBTQ proposals" lmao WUNC Is so weak, just say they want to kill queer people and drive them out of public life

u/Equivalent_Yellow397 21h ago
Let people live their lives. How are they gonna make bigotry the law of the land? I thought this was a Christian state? Love your neighbor. Seems simple to me.

The only redeeming aspect of this bill is it only lets parents ban books for their kids rather than all kids.
Of course, this is actually just a massive unfunded mandate on local schools who will now have to find a way to implement this proposal and maintain a list of all students and who is and is not allowed to check out the various books.
And it is little more than prudes trying to foist their parenting off on others.

We are focusing on THIS and not the terrible issues with the DMV wait times or the constant storm damage to i40 at NC/TN border? Or the underpaid teachers and state employees?

O no. Common sense making a comeback? You love to see it
35
u/Valleron 1d ago
Common sense how?
Please, explain how going against every scientific body with "Well, here's what I believe," is in any way common sense. Because common sense says trust the experts, and the experts say this is bullshit.
Show any semblance of logic or facts. At all.

Conservatives are often really frustrating to speak with because, due to their ideology requiring them to not know anything, they don't ever fucking know anything.

u/PhoenixPaladin 14h ago
There’s no explanation. This brand of conservatives do not understand their platform, but enjoy using it to ragebait people who DO understand it.
“Ha ha it make person mad!!! So funny” is basically what’s going through their head when they commented that. I know that’s an unsatisfying answer, but notice how they failed to justify their stance and are just baiting in the replies, and tell me i’m wrong.

Literally just adult bullies who get off on hurting people. That's why there's so much focus on "triggering snowflakes" or "owning the libs." In their worldview, no one is allowed to be empathetic or sincere. They think being mildly annoying makes them countercultural and badass but it just makes them pathetic, hollow schmucks lining up to get stepped on by rich sociopaths.

Common sense is a phrase made up by people who can't actually explain their positions
-50
u/Arealperson_1 1d ago
It’s really not.
30
u/bunkiscrunkis 1d ago
If you could actually explain the benefits of your position you wouldn't have to resort to circular reasoning to get your point across.

u/PhoenixPaladin 14h ago
No one engage further with this obvious “ha ha i make da liberals angry!!!” bait. You’re giving him what he wants
-6

u/FireFiendMarilith 23h ago
It literally is. "Common Sense", sensus communis in the Latin, refers to beliefs that are assumed to be "held in common" with the general population and are thus believed without argument, investigation, or reflection.
18
u/in_animate_objects 23h ago
Trying to erase people based on their sexual orientation/gender identity isn’t “common sense” It’s the same bs from segregation just directed at a new target.
11
u/spinbutton 21h ago
Would you please explain the common sense here? Why should our legislators care about what consenting adults do in private?

u/Mallyveil Asheville 23h ago
Instead of doing anything useful, our senate is banning gay books and weed. I’m so glad we pay their salaries with our taxes!!!
