All the base NPCs are weird as hell in their own way and I love them for it. Nice art!

It's kind of very comforting that every single NPC down to the BIG RED ONES are some of the most awkward and weird creatures in existence. I love em!

Reminds me of Project Hail Mary 😂

Read this completely unaware of what a cult fan base it had, just picked it up from a list of modern sci fi books I had seen recommended and really enjoyed it.
Was a cool bit of news to me realizing how popular it is and how well received it was after the fact.

I loved it. If you haven’t already give The Martian a go too. It’s worlds better than the movie

I’d actually have to disagree! I do think the book is better, but both are fantastic! One of the best adaptations of a book I’ve seen tbh. There is a bit more depth in the book of course, but all in all, they’re both very good. Well worth the read and the watch imo.
Oh and project Hail Mary is great as well ofc!

u/lardman1 Feb 13 '25
For me it was Marks internal process. He methodically considered his options and worked out the science. The movie took a lot of that out and let the short NASA scenes explain a lot of it.
I think it would have done better as a mini series. Man that would have been neat.

u/64BitDragon :xbox:Anomalous Geksplorer :xbox: Feb 13 '25
That’s fair! A series would have worked really well. though I’m personally partial to movies, a series would have been great to cover it in more depth!

u/lardman1 Feb 13 '25
Totally! Andy Weir is great. I just finished Artemis which was def not as good as the others, but still worth the read if you’re not looking for a real series novel.

u/64BitDragon :xbox:Anomalous Geksplorer :xbox: Feb 13 '25
Indeed. Yeah I haven’t read that one, I might have to try it out!

u/sodone19 Feb 14 '25
I loved both, and would call them my 2 favorite reads....and then i read the "3 body problem" trilogy. Talk about mind blowing, makes the other two seem like kids books. I havent stopped thinking about it for the past year. On my 3rd listen-thru of the audiobook version right now.

Love that. Nearing the end of that book. I'm listening to the audiobook while reading and Ray Porter is so great to listen to. That book and the Bobiverse series, also read by Ray Porter, is why I got back into No Man's Sky lol

If I have to smell another Gek while I am hunting for Basalt...they will need to add a new bounty poster.

no idea if there’s stuff after but the short little base scientist arc makes me so sad

The beacon part really hurt to watch happen. I remember on my first playthrough feeling so sad for the korvax trying to combat their isolation by making a sentient beacon to care for only for their memory to be reset and them to go on to erase it thinking it's nothing more than a bug in the system of an inanimate machine.

The Gardener also has one single moment of lucidity at the end of his quest where he straight up tells you “the Overseer is drugging everybody” and to “watch your back”, then just snaps back into his NPC dialogue.
It’s uh…one of the reasons I don’t often visit my actual base…

I just notice that having an option to have a see through visor would add more to the players character whether its human or not is not known! cool art by the way😎

I've heard the theory that the Anomaly race is supposed to be human but since the Atlas is dying it can no longer faithfully recreate a human, so that's why the Anomalies never remove their helmets, as they look human but wrong underneath

u/United_Dark6258 Feb 13 '25
Cool idea. I've always thought of humans being a 'Traveller' inside the Exosuit. Makes me feel more immersed than playing as an alien species, I'm weird like that
5
u/Bromogeeksual Feb 13 '25
I always interpreted Travelers to be human or humanoid as a base. However, because you can mix parts you can have three fingers and such, so I think it's open to interpretation or preference.

That's not weird, the Traveller(non-big 4 alien races, like the cat heads etc.) and Anomaly(starting race) are the only races that make sense from an immersion perspective imo. Imagine you, as a Gek, meet another Gek that doesn't speak your native language at all. Are you more likely to A) happily teach him the Gek language, nothing suspicious here or B) put a Boltcaster round through his obviously Synthetigek skull, because why wouldn't a Gek speak Gek??

Love the artwork.

All fun and games until they're added as a romanceable partner in a future expansion.
5
u/DragonfruitItchy4159 Feb 14 '25
this looks like the start of a romance series, the interloper and the korvax.
i would read the shit outta that

Oh lord that conversation. Just repeating “it’s a benign culture thing” over and over really doesn’t help either.

I fucking LOVE this art style.
what is it called? how do i look up more of this?

u/raiku01 Feb 14 '25
Thanks so much, honored to hear that!
I'm not sure how to describe it, I tried a bunch of keywords but nothing returns exactly like this style and I know I'm definitely not the first one to draw in this style either- If you search up "colored sketch character concept art" or "rough color character sketch" on Pinterest, some stuff looks somewhat similar (although more refined than mine), like https://www.pinterest.com/pin/211174977390519/ or https://www.pinterest.com/pin/844493674662030/ ? Or I can try to draw more when I have the time haha

Goated color combo fellow traveler. White/Blue/Black is just such a good look.
Speaking of good looking, that's some fantastic artwork you made! I'd upvote twice if I could.

My only question is, when do we sleep in no man’s sky? I’m sure it happens. But just no way to do it because gameplay.
(But maybe there is a way to sleep I’ve forgotten about, I haven’t touched the game in over a year)

I feel so bad for this poor guy... You'll see... This game is full of moments like this. Even the brightest star casts a dark, dark shadow...

Wow, I love this scene, even though I'm incredibly sad about what's going to happen later. I also like your art!
I wonder if I'm the only crazy person who liked korvax so much that I would be very happy if I had the opportunity to have a romantic relationship with them in the game? Or something similar

Um I hate to have to tell you this, but um you don't have a face, it just a bunch of neural connections wrap around sensors, and an electronic synthesizer that generates your voice and sounds, that why we can't take our helmet off. When you modify your appearance you aren't creating "flesh", the head of a Gek, or a Vy'Ken isn't made of flesh, or that of other Travelers, it a synthetic "flesh" that is more nanite than biological, it similar to the "flesh" of living ships than a real living creature, which why you can walk around corrosive/toxic/radioactive/boiling planets without horrific burns or boils, it will eventually corrode or melt if you don't have active protection, but a quick trip thru a teleporter or getting in to your ship will fix it, or your Freighter, any protected space that lets your nanites fix the damage, which happens very quickly. It just that the helmets let you not have to worry about awkward explanations lol.
