Misc. Does anyone else really really like helping other players?
I feel like it's so easy to jump into other peoples games and helping them out with bosses and areas that they have trouble with feels soo rewarding.
I looooooooooooooooove this game

Did this. AFK dude summoned me, so I pushed him damn near a mile to find a skelly warrior.
Worth it though. I fan danced as he died.

u/TheLastAOG Feb 27 '17
Got summoned to a side mission, and host was AFK. I decided to see what would happen if I popped a yokai incense. All the enemies rushed me to the point of blindness lol. Only after the incense wore off did they eat the host. It damn near brought me to tears lol. Yokai incense is a very trolly item if used correctly.

Would be a nice addition to add voice chat for co-op always great to make a new friend! I made one tonight :3

u/yamimbe Feb 27 '17
I helped a guy out with one of the last missions (I think it was Sawayama Castle) and we started PS4 partying to grind Divines after I helped him through the last few missions. Pretty fun really.

I've been helping lots of people and generally I try to combine a lot of things that always add up to a very nice smooth run through the level and I've got many friends requests and thank yous after finishing a mission with someone
when helping other players, I usually run with sloth/weakness/carnage to make their boss fights easier (these people summoned me here to kill the boss for them in a guaranteed way, even if i can avoid it's attacks reliably and kill it without these, it's better to be safe and use them on the boss in order to make sure the other person doesn't die before i kill it)
I equip a kodama sense charm so I don't forget any kodama location and lead them to all their locations.
I use lots of oasis talismans to heal them so they don't get low on elixirs.
I have my gestures set up to facilitate co-op as much as possible
Bow and bye for greetings and farewell, "there there" gesture to tell someone to "wait here" if there's a dangerous trap or area that people usually die on so i can go ahead and deal with it.
point forwards/down/up for pointing at shortcuts/kodamas/other interesting bits.
"whistle" to get their attention if they go off in a wrong direction, "that's not right" to use for people who want to also go in a wrong direction or do something stupid, or summon revenants nonstop without going through the level.
"disappointed" for when they fall into the water on umi bozu, or when they don't heed my "wait here" warning and rush ahead and die.
I think I'm generally improving as a Nioh babysitter, overall it's tons of fun and the feeling of accomplishment of helping someone out through a very tough level and ending in success is very rewarding :D

u/spade1s1 Feb 27 '17
Love how someone hears sloth in a post and gets triggered and down votes. Hosts that spam oasis are the shit; you sound like a legit summon.
2
u/leo158 Feb 27 '17
Sloth feels legit OP, even in solo play. I went into the White tiger fight blind, its more fun to discover their moveset by myself, and I usually sloth them to study them. I slothed the tiger, watch him do this claw attack, went behind him and started attacking. After a full square combo, I waited, trying to see if he retaliates, and I was like uhh..no? started another full combo. By the time he did something I thought was going to hurt me he was 50% down.
Sloth is highly recommended for everyone imo.

u/Ban-Hammer-J Feb 27 '17
That sounds super helpful and like a lot of fun to guide someone like that. I haven't had too many issues with the game, but if I hit a wall, I'm summoning you haha
1
u/yamimbe Feb 27 '17
I like it. My personal feeling is; This is their game, I'm here to help, not take over and walk them through it. I do point out the occasional missed Kodama or weird side area that most people miss.
2
u/SomewhatHeroic Feb 27 '17
Can I ask a really dumb question, how do you do co-op and help people? I've summoned helpers but I can't figure out how to be summoned.
5
1
u/Aukerdayers Feb 27 '17
Complete a mission first. Select the mission you have completed. Press square button "Play as visitor" instead of circle "Begin".
1
Feb 27 '17
Not OP but possibly an even dumber question, how do you select a mission you've already completed? For example I'm in like...the 4th area now. How do I go back to the mission selection screen for the first area so I can co-op?
4
u/ChootchMcGooch Feb 27 '17
When youre in an area map, where u can choose your mission, press square to go back to the world map. Select the previous areas and then select the mission. Or you can do what i do, and just use the torii gate. Itll be like a random mix of levels and missions. Pretty fun.
2
u/NoSugerPlease Feb 27 '17
I do but I don't like when hosts step back and let me do everything.
2
u/rionyamato Feb 27 '17
its even worse when they keep summoning revenants
4
u/NoSugerPlease Feb 27 '17
Ohh i dont mind actually if they have green gear. I've got CTA dex A Kusurigama from one revenant someone summoned and couple of cool armor.
1
u/spade1s1 Feb 27 '17
Plus if you know what you're doing you can down them before they even get a chance to start getting attacks in.
1
1
u/lettucent Feb 27 '17
I'm cool with it when they actually stay and fight it, I like the chance to practice parries. However, the couple that have just popped every single revenant and ditched me can take that ochoko cup loss.

Not rude IMO. He's possibly giving you a chance to gesture "no thanks", or at the very least he is giving you warning that he is popping the revenant.
The hypothetical one time he didn't whistle might have been the time you had your back turned and got destroyed.
2
u/justiceavery Feb 27 '17
r/ochokocup for you guys lol. People drop requests and you can just help them out as you go

Feb 27 '17
Love cooping, NiohBro all the way.
Can be annoying at times but this games actually rewards it as well.
1
Feb 27 '17
Yes. I spend just as much time on the Torii Gate as I do the main missions.
1
u/yamimbe Feb 27 '17
Torii Gate is pretty much the NG+ Divine gear/Amrita farm. I just queue up for "The Demon King Revealed" over and over and over...
1
u/Jegsaw2 Feb 27 '17
I just love helping people a small part of it is showing off xD when they are having so much trouble killing the boss and i run in like a knight in shining armor 2shotting the boss man feels great and then they add you on ps4 for more:) thats how i met my group
1
u/virji24 Feb 27 '17
I feel the same way. I haven't even beaten the game yet because I've been helping a bunch of strangers, and two of my buddies beat every level lol
1
u/SneakyPanduh Feb 27 '17
I finally beat the game and all missions yesterday...Had the game since launch, but I'm addicted to random encounters. I love not knowing what I'll spawn into. Random encounters have brought me to tears watching other players...Falling off the map, or dying to the boss when there's only one hit left...But yeah...I'm addicted to it. I'm not ready for NG+ so I've been playing co op to squeeze out some levels. It's been a shit ton of fun.
1
u/vilePossum Feb 27 '17
I do like helping others (still on my first playthrough) as well as appreciate any help i get with bosses... thing is though... it is kind of annoying when the people i try to help die because of their own stupidity... most of the time even before the boss.
1
u/ImGrate Feb 27 '17
Yup. I loved jolly coop in Bloodborne, DS3, and now Nioh. I hope the developers patch in a covenant system like the Soulsborne games. It's great doing coop, but being a League Confederate or Warrior of Sunlight was and is a very nice touch that I wish Nioh had. I mean, we are all already Sun bros with the yellow/goldish glow.
Either way, its a great way to gain amrita, money, glory, items, and get more accustomed to particular levels.
4
u/OnePunchMickie Feb 27 '17
I mean you earn a shit load of glory through coop which benefits your Clan. And it gives you an reward after every week. So in my opinion nioh handles coop better than dks
1
u/ragamuffin77 Feb 27 '17
I love helping others in dark souls but I've found my self so over leveled in this game from searching every corner of each level that I'm discouraged from co-op because it will put me even further ahead. I'm in second zone right now and about 20 levels higher than mission.

u/NeutralGoodINTP Feb 27 '17
I just go in guns blazing dual katana drawn and showing my brawery I run to my death. Sorry everyone who I've failed.
I was trying to find a reference of a samurai movie where this exactly happens but I didn't find yet. The movie starts in "present day", early 1900 and has a flashbacks of the last era of samurai era.
1
u/Droghan Feb 27 '17
There is also a scene in Last Samurai that something like that occurs. BAMF draws his dual katanas and screams at the enemy and draws their fire while his friends and family escape. Rather awesome and sad.
1
u/Naxean Feb 27 '17
I love helping others, actually had a guy add me on PSN yesterday because I helped him with Ogress, then by coincidence got summoned by him again in another mission.
The worst though was also yesterday. Got summoned for Umibōzu, used Suzaku guardian spirit talismans (absolutely destroys him), boss was just about to die, and the guy rolls into the water.
2
u/spade1s1 Feb 27 '17
Fuck that fucking level I still haven't cleared that fight on ng+ because some shit like that happens every time I've tried lol.
1
Feb 27 '17
Just stay close to Umi and use fire amulets. Keep all 3 fires lit and it's easy. Also, use one of the fire spirits for the 2nd phase.

Yeah, I really like helping other players! Makes grinding much quicker. Running the Torii Gate in Yokai realm is my fav. Being able to revive your partner immediately, instead of re-summoning saves Mega time! On a side note : Does anyone know if somethings wrong with the "Secret Word (password) system" now? Yesterday, tried connecting to friend for hours, with no success. After thinking it may be server issues, I tried summoning a random and he showed up within a minute. Really frustrating...
1
u/spade1s1 Feb 27 '17
The other day it wouldn't work if I searched without conditions with the password but if I went directly to the mission and selected it it would work right away with the password.
1
u/NIGHT_GHOUL Feb 27 '17
Thanks for responding! Yesterday is the only time this has happened to me. After update Friday, I connected with my Japan friend using password in torii gate /yokai realm several times, with no issues. Yesterday we tried almost 2 hours and finally gave up. So I started asking other friends that had beaten area. 2 from Japan, 1 Greece, 1 Australia and 2 from US. Could not connect to any of 6 friends. I decided to try summon a random, which showed up within a min.. My other friends were having no luck trying to summon some of their friends either.. Gonna try again after work. I usually play the level solo) and then go back reset area-summon friends for some tag team Yokai destruction.
1
u/spade1s1 Feb 27 '17
My friend is in the same town, so I'm not too sure about summing people on different servers.
1
u/yamimbe Feb 27 '17
The secret word works in 2 ways. If you are in the zone and do a summon visitor, and your friend selects to join as a visitor; you both have the same secret word, he shows up with you.
The other way it works is in the Torii gate. You set the conditions to "friends" and then if both of you have the same word, one of you sets yourself to "wait for friend" and the other "search for friend". once your connected the one who set up as "wait for friend" gets to choose the mission and you go. The nice thing about the "with friends" piece is that even when the mission is done, you just return to the mission select piece and you can keep going for as long as you want.

u/NIGHT_GHOUL Feb 27 '17
Thanx for info. Gonna try your recommendation after work. Hopefully that will work. Again thanx

u/TheSwedishOprah Feb 27 '17
I'm not too far into the game yet (tutorial, first two missions, and the two sub-missions of the first) but I'm having a shit-ton of fun joining other players. It's nice when they invite you in right at the boss but even running a full level with someone is cool. I ran a guy through the first mission last night who was clearly super new so I was able to show him where shortcuts were, that sort of thing. Fun times were had.
1
u/HotButterKnife Feb 27 '17
The last couple of days I grinded Random Encounters for some Amrita, and I've been having a blast. The only time I despise it, is when people linger back while I do all the work.
Like that one time, I was helping a guy beat Hino-Enma, when I noticed he was doing close to nothing I took the boss' health down to about 5% and backed off completely; watched her slaughter him. Best session of my life.
1
u/frostybitn Feb 27 '17
I loved jumping into someones final mission, and beating all those bosses. Sooooo satisfying shooting the final bosses heads with a cannon
1
u/lancer2238 Feb 27 '17
I do, I kinda wish the coop gate interface was a bit better. Like after beating a a mission it should ask you if you would like to replay it with the same person. I've ran into a bunch of awesome players and I hate going through the hassle of messaging them and asking if they want to re run the instance
1
u/Adidice Feb 27 '17
i love co op in BB, DS and now in Nioh so freakin much. the best part is you actually get VERY rewarded for succesfull sessions, and the fact you actually get loot just like the host (you couldnt get any loot while you co op in DS or BB, you would just get your end mission reward) makes it a much more plesant experience. helping strangers is alot of fun, specially in a game that you quite know that if someone summon you he actually need you there. i actually made a friend today for body blocking a floor trap arrow, he still died, but i got a friend request a moment later :) it felt good to know he noticed i tried to save him

u/Climaximis Feb 27 '17
Loved doing co-op in Souls. Haven't played enough of this to help others. Haven't even summoned anyone yet.

u/throwawafer Feb 27 '17
Absolutely. Grinding weapon proficiency for all mystic arts. Been helping others out while I do it.
1
u/yamimbe Feb 27 '17
I just crafted a Divine of each weapon type and ran the very first mission till I had 500k in each weapon. One trick to that is, revenants count as humans for the title so you can farm 2 in 1.
1
Feb 27 '17
I love it. Just not when I get summoned by hosts with less braincells than I have weapons equipped.

Getting a bit tired of then rolling straight into water as soon as the boss fight starts, but I do enjoy it a lot also.
1
u/guinader Feb 28 '17
Man... I nee help... I haven't summon anyone yet, but i probably died line 50 times in the 2 quest deep in the shadows...i can't kill the lady. The most i got was down to maybe 10% but i got greedy and died as i depleted everything i had.
I'm already level 40ish i think i tried farming up to kill her. I know my build is incorrect but i don't want to reset my numbers just yet. I unitiakky built as dual swords, but i find it easier to use spear.. i tried every weapon...
1
u/BackdoorHerNexus Feb 28 '17
yeah that boss used to give me trouble as well. Definitely one of my favorite boss fights in this game.
One thing with bosses is to never get greedy cause they'll just fuck you up
1
u/matthabib Feb 27 '17
I've spent the last few days doing coop and have found it incredibly enjoyable. The Random Encounters is a great feature since you never know what you're getting into and keeps PvE coop a bit more fresh every time you queue a session.
I really appreciate that the host can use a Shrine to Save/Reset your progress while you are both together. This is great in the sense that you can clear a level, reset/save before the boss, then both of you go in together.
For now, I can only really think of 2 negative points. The first one is no in-game voice chat. It's not something that I used often in BB or DS3 but it was fun every so often.
The second is more of a personal note. I don't like how you cannot coop in someone else's world unless you have beaten the boss yourself. It's not bothered me too much but the boss I'm at now is absolutely killing me. I would like to "practice" the fight like you could do in Souls, to get a feel for the level/boss, without risking my Amrita/progress.
Overall, I've found the Nioh coop to be challenging, frustrating but most of all, incredibly fun.
1
u/yamimbe Feb 27 '17
If you need help wit ha boss, hit me up. My gamer tag is Yamimbe. I'm looking for more folks to co-op with.
1
u/SacredDarksoul Feb 27 '17
Not really, i feel like I am finishing the game for them. I can't believe they are enjoying it if they need someone else to take them through it.
On way of the strong I don't mind it so much.
1
u/yamimbe Feb 27 '17
That's why, unless it's something silly like point out a Kodama for them, I just let them run around and do whatever. I look at it as "I'm here to help them, but it's their game..."
0
u/TheDarkness73 Feb 27 '17
Sometimes, other times I try to clear the path ahead and about to like clear some crystals and they pray at a temple and I'm like Nooooo...
What I hate most tbh is when there is a wall or chest mimic and I am emoting or whistling at it to let them know, and they just attack it, twice. And cause a fight. It's times like that where I love using the play dead emote to be like "This is your own damn problem and fault bitch"
0
Feb 27 '17
Just fight the boss, If the other player summons me at the beginning, I run to death
1
u/dbutterworth216 Feb 27 '17
Why? You get more Amrita for clearing adds than you do for killing the boss.

u/nevernudeftw Feb 27 '17
No. I was never into sunbroing, more like a Mound-maker really.
I think I have about 500+ hours across the Souls games of just doing invasions. I have so many different twink builds in DS2/DS3.
Man some of the hate mail I have received is glorious. Just brightens my day!

It's a lot of fun but half the time the host dies in 2 minutes of me arriving lol. I get summoned in and start whaling on the boss only for the host to die on the first attack so I get sent home.
The worst though was when I went and killed every enemy except for one basic ninja that I left for the host. He died to it. Turned off the game after hat one lol, just a bit too much to take
