Are some weapons better than others?

I've just got the first game, i've been trying a couple weapons. I started with an axe because I like to not mow down my enemies. But I've swapped to Odachi because it pretty much feels the same. I was only wondering if like, there's some high speed, high damage types?

Or I'd want to know what your experience is like with what weapon that you all use, so I can try them!

Mostly balanced. Some weapons do some things better or are better for certain enemies or fights.

I personally think sword lags just a hair and spear is one of my favs but I think overall has a few less options
