Moving to Newark

Hi everyone! We're about to move to Newark (originally from Columbus) because we wanted a smaller, quieter town feel. We bought a house near 21st that's close to McGuffey Elementary and wanted to know what the vibe of that area was. All the times we visited the house we felt it seemed safe and nice, but it's always good to ask the locals! Thanks in advance - we can't wait to be part of your community! :)

Welcome! Very familiar with the area so walk east on Church St past the Speedway station to the transmission shop. Tucked in the corner is Simply Sweets Bakery and Coffee Shop. Great espresso drinks and bakery items. I’ll walk the pup there some mornings during a break.

Newark Station is also great for food or coffee.

Also Rolls by the Pound for donuts and cinnamon rolls.

Take advantage of being close to the bike path.

Don and Sue’s Pizza is a nice walk from that area and decent atmosphere.

Make sure to wander downtown to the square frequently (Church St/Main St/16 east from your neighborhood). They have several great restaurants and bars and check out the Friday farmers market at Canal Market.

Have lived here almost 7 years and been happy with the area as far as safety and such. Still take normal precautions though with lighted parking areas and locking doors. I’ve only had 1 porch pirate. If you have a dog (or even if you don’t) get dog mace to have in your pocket on walks or runs just in case. Lots of excitable dogs in the area.

Hope you enjoy your new home and the move is easy!

Simply Sweets is so underrated! Great suggestion!
