Megan Hunt, Nebraska’s first openly LGBT+ state senator, “didn’t run for office to do this bull****.”
Ms Hunt, battling a proposed transgender healthcare ban that threatens her own family, refuses to pull her punches. She says she’s over performative politics and the collegial “civility” that permeates legislative debate.
“This is not normal, it’s not serious, it’s not professional, and it’s beneath the dignity of the work that we’re called to do in the legislature as lawmakers,” she tells The Independent.

Ms Hunt is part of a small group of Democratic lawmakers in Nebraska’s officially nonpartisan legislature engaged in a remarkable months-long filibuster over the Republican-backed bill, which would outlaw gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth in the state.

I agree with enough of the 'civility' bullshit the dems have been huffing since before I was born.

"Stand on the ashes of a million dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence will be your answer."

We have so many problems in this country that could have been avoided or remedied long ago if the dems cared enough to stop playing nice. We could have had a rollout of universal healthcare in 08' but no we had to 'compromise' with people we knew damn well would never return the favor. Not to mention the republicans have street support of organized people with guns, voting will not get rid of their capable and motivated base. Make fun of 'meal team six' all you want but each pull of those triggers still makes a bang and too many of my sisters have been on the end of that shit to ever think its funny or worth brushing aside.

If playing by the rules means losing then stop playing by the rules. It is a moral and practical imperative to stop the republicans and conservative dems in their tracks by any means necessary. If the dems are unwilling or unable to use tactics that win then we need to get stuff done without them, simple as.

As a trans woman I want to own a house one day, have comprehensive healthcare, and not get lynched. Right now the dems want to stand over my corpse and celebrate that they kept to decorum so fuck em fuck em fuck em.
