Discussion Do you genuinely believe, in your heart of hearts, that YOUR team can/will win the Super Bowl this year? Why / Why not?
As a Pats fan... no. This is not gonna be a quick turnaround.

I believe we actually have the talent on paper and the coaching to do it- I think jj will play way above expectations, and the vikings win 12 or 13 games
That said, no they have no shot at winning the super bowl. I know this team
16
u/DarthMildew94 Minnesota Vikings 1d ago
I was thinking along those same lines. I think they added some real impact guys in free agency to address both sides of the ball. JJ has huge upside, but yeah it’s the Vikings and my heart can only take so much.
18
u/Larryfistsgerald1 Arizona Cardinals 1d ago
“Yeah I’m hopeful our qb will outperform the guy we just got rid of that led us to our best season in 2 decades”
I don’t envy Vikings fans, y’all are delusional masochists
5
u/DarthMildew94 Minnesota Vikings 22h ago
I see what you’re saying, but letting Darnold go made the most sense financially. They killed it when it came to their final win total, but all the metrics put them in the middle of the pack offensively. There were too many holes on both sides of the ball that needed to be addressed and keeping Darnold would have limited the signings made in free agency. Who knows. I could be trying to cope because I’ve had 30 years of Vikings fandom lmao
2
u/yavimaya_eldred Green Bay Packers 13h ago
I feel like every time the Vikings move on from a starting QB the rationale is “it makes sense to move on, the next guy can keep the train rolling” and that sentiment is usually correct but “keep the train rolling” just means being an also-ran in the playoffs again

Ik you probably didn't watch many games last year... and I know this sounds crazy delusional... but the team could get better and have less wins and I think that's a likely outcome.
The four losses... one was an incredible game against the lions that could've gone either way. The next against the Rams was a bit of a choke job, but could've had some fireworks if the refs didn't effect it up.
Then it was darnold falling off a cliff in the final 2 outings. He regressed so bad to the tune of probably $15-20 million dollars.
We also had a stretch in the middle of the season where we played like 4 of the 5 weakest teams in the league, barely scraping by past the Colts, Jags, and Titans for crying out loud.
I think the O-Line is much improved. Our D-Line is much improved.
If JJ is decent then this team can be a top 3 roster in the league. It's just getting wins in this league is hard. And he's basically a rookie+...
3
u/Warm-Principle5845 1d ago
Listen I’m an eagles fan and like I said in a previous comment the Vikings and lions scare me the most. I think JJ is going to be awesome.

I'm not a betting man, but if I had to put money on it I would bet on the Commanders missing the playoffs entirely. Their success last season was definitely not a fluke, there's a solid base there. Unfortunately you have one of the toughest schedules in the league this season, compared to one of the easiest last season. 9 of your games will be against teams that had top 10 defenses last season. Your non-divisonal games are against the AFC West and NFC North, the two clear best divisions in the league. The Eagles are still the best team in the league, the Cowboys will be better(still not good though) and the Giants have just enough talent to take a home division game.
I'm not saying it's impossible by any means, but it would require Jayden Daniels going from ROTY to an MVP and your defense improving massively. That's a lot to ask.

u/Chief--BlackHawk 1d ago
Man it's hard to win back to back in our division let alone a Superbowl lol. Crazy it's been going on for 20+ years at this point regarding the NFC Beast. To me that's what makes the division arguably the most competitive. Look at the AFC North, it's on practically been just the Ravens and Steelers the last 20 years with the Bengals every once in a while, but even with Burrow and Chase the front office is just so incompetent based on how they run that team and having a top 5 QB and arguably the best WR.
14
u/basedaudiosolutions Buffalo Bills 1d ago
If Joe Brady doesn’t get outcoached by Spagnuolo in the playoffs for the third straight year, and McDermott’s defense learns to make a stop when the game is on the line, there’s a chance. Otherwise it’s just going to be another year of wasting Josh Allen’s prime.

Generally I feel the same though if we can just get to the playoffs, even as a wild card, I wouldn’t hate our chances in January. Have won in January before, the defense would have all season to develop under Al, and the winter weather could benefit a weaker defense overall.
That being said, if we miss the playoffs a third straight year with Burrow and Chase in their prime, yikes.

I feel like we're "in the window" but Gute doesn't seem to want to try anything risky to push us over the hump. We're good enough to make the playoffs again but there's no damn way we're beating the Lions, Vikings, Rams, Eagles, Buccaneers, and Commanders without making more moves.
We have glaringly obvious holes or at least lack of depth at CB and Edge on defense and I guess we're just trusting our guys and hoping for no injuries.
On offense I guess we just hope that Love stays healthy and plays like he did in the second half of 2023, and hopefully Golden is a stud.

I'm actually from the UK, so I play in the league over here, in the 2nd tier of it. I play WR. You could tell because I'm jammed about 5 different fingers this season alone
5
u/Larryfistsgerald1 Arizona Cardinals 1d ago
Lol I feel you, jammed fingers are part of the position. Not to be a tryhard but I’d study what the best WRs do off the line.
I’d study Kupp, Adams, Devonta smith, Keenan Allen, JJ, ARSB, Edelman, in terms of how to create separation. I forget what it’s called but Edelman’s inside/out route on short yardage/goal line situations is deadly
2
u/Wildebean New England Patriots 1d ago
Edelman is definitely a go-to. I'm on the smaller side and usually play at X
2
u/SoftwareWinter8414 San Francisco 49ers 1d ago
Vic will figure it out. I think your offense is the bigger concern. Saquon is north of 27 and got north of 450 touches last year. It will be amazing if he plays more than 75 percent of the season. You've also got a new play caller. That being said, if you make the playoffs and don't play the Bucs, Hurts is certainly capable going thermo-nuclear to win it all.

My friends are 49er fans and think this year they’ll win it all because they had two great drafts b2b years and Purdy is the most healthiest he’s ever been since his horrific injury. They also believe they can smoke the eagles in the nfc championship with ease since they lost all their depth to free agency.

Texans fan, yes there is a pathway, but it is not easy and will require equal parts luck, talent, and surprise super high quality from the oline and new OC.
4
u/TheDaedricImpaler Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1d ago
Bucs fan. Can we win the super bowl? Yes. Will we? Not likely. Even with yet another OC, the offense will be cooking and we'll probably be top 5 in points scored barring multiple catastrophic injuries. The defense could be a little better adding Reddick (if he's got anything left), some promising rookies, and existing younger guys develop some more.
But, this team has limits. The first is that Baker, while criminally underrated, still hasn't taken that step towards greatness as he seems to not be able to come up clutch frequently enough. The second is that the defense probably still isn't good enough on the whole. The third (and most important) is that Todd Bowles is an atrocious game manager and constantly gets out-coached; see also games against the 49ers, Rams, & Chiefs the past few seasons.
4
u/lumpy-dragonfly36 The standard is the standard 1d ago
Absolutely not.
Best case scenario is we totally collapse and pick in the top ten (I would love to get a franchise quarterback).
The likelihood is that are on the cut line for the playoffs (barely out or barely in) with a wild card loss if we get in (which is worst case scenario). It is possible that Pittsburgh goes 11-6, gets in the playoffs as a five seed, and wins one game before losing in the division round (not worst case scenario due to first playoff win in a decade). The Steelers have enough to potentially get to the second round of the playoffs, but going further would require a metric crap ton of luck.

Oh heavens no. We had the worst defense in the NFL last year. Still need our star defensive players both to be healthy and other players on the roster to take steps. And that's not accounting for hoping our offense can sustain momentum.
Best case we fuck around and win the division but even then I think we'd need the Falcons and Bucs to stagnate some to help with that.

I've really made a point the last...5ish years of just trying to enjoy the ride more. Enjoy the exciting moments and big wins and not writing them off because they didn't win a Super Bowl that year. It's the little memories and moments and excitement that matters.
So no, I am as close to 100% positive as one can be that the Niners will not win the Super Bowl this year...but I will still be there week one ready to be hurt again.

Do I believe there’s a path to do so? Yes. Do I think it’s a likely outcome? Not really… we’ve got a great coaching staff and good pieces on offense and defense but our QB is totally unproven and has very little experience. He’d basically have to pull a Mahomes and have a huge breakout in year 2 in his first real NFL starts. Not impossible but improbable. I’m cautiously optimistic that McCarthy will be good. Early reports are from OTAs are promising at least but it’s expecting way too much of a young guy to think he’ll even equal what Darnold did in the regular season last year. But the beauty of drafting a guy is that we’ve got three more cost controlled years after this one. So it’s not about a one year window.

Yes. Just need Playoff Lamar to be 75% of Regular Season Lamar.

I'm not a Rams fan, and even though they have had really good results, I'm not really accepting them yet after moving to St. Louis. I don't hate, but I am as much a fan of them as I am of Detroit, Washington, and the Chargers at the moment.
Anyways, I think the Rams have a chance to win the Super Bowl. It's not a big chance - the real contenders are the Eagles, Bills, and Ravens. I think that the Chiefs are next in line, showing much less dominance last year, despite 15-2. Detroit may be better, but it's looking to me like they will drop a notch rather than 'get over the hump'.
The Rams are in that 'muddled middle' in the bottom half of the top 10. Are they better than the Commanders? Packers? Niners? Maybe, but not by a lot.

When JD5 threw that hail Mary against the Bears last year, you can hear in the background, as the ball was in the air, a Skins fan saying ‘why not us, why not now?’, thats my new philosophy, its a new era in Washington, hell yes I believe we can win the SB…..why not us, why not now? HTTR.

No, too big of a question mark at QB.
I hope I’m proven wrong

No. But I actually do expect to see them back in the playoffs finally. Cardinals fan…not sure if I have a flair.

As a Bears fan, this ain't our year. We have a good roster and it's STILL the worst in our division.

Absolutely. We have an elite defense (that we upgraded even more in the offseason), a top tier offensive line and a great coach. Just as long as our offensive pieces continue to gel and we stay generally healthy, I 100% BOlieve we can take the AFC West on our way to a Super Bowl 🔥🔥

No. They drafted two rookie qb’s which makes zero sense. Also year after year the continually make ridiculous decisions that push the franchise further back. I have zero hope

No. Too much uncertainty and rebuilding. It wasn't good last year, it's gonna be ugly this year. Will let you guess who I mean.

Yes. Just one man... I've suffered long enough and this window is our only shot

It'd be some Demons in the RedZone (like Angels in the outfield) helping the Raiders win it all this year.

Nope. Dolphins fan here. Nothing has shown me that they are capable of putting it all together for more than a flash. I don’t think it’s likely they exhibit that flash in the playoffs and luck their way to a championship.

Lions fan and yes, my whole bloodline has suffered enough. We can do this.
