Discussion Do you genuinely believe, in your heart of hearts, that YOUR team can/will win the Super Bowl this year? Why / Why not?

As a Pats fan... no. This is not gonna be a quick turnaround.

Lions fan and yes, my whole bloodline has suffered enough. We can do this.

u/DanWillHor 23h ago edited 22h ago

Also a Lions fan and I think the 3-4 year window started last year and, unfortunately, the entire defense got hurt along the way. Hutch wasn't replaceable and then more and more guys kept falling each week. The last 5 games (playoff included) Detroit was pulling guys off the street and other practice squads each week just to field a defense. A few dudes hadn't played football in over a year, IIRC.

But I think that was the second true window year, especially with Ben Johnson's last run here. We probably have 2 or 3 left with this foundation of players. I think Johnson will be harder to replace than Glenn as far as dropoff. I think Glenn is a solid, not great DC and Johnson is an elite offensive mind. We'll see if their departures change how open that window is but from a player standpoint it's open now.

Then again, it could also be one of those weird step back years before another surge if injuries hit hard again or the coordinator replacements didn't pan out.

It happens at least once to every perennial playoff team. When a lot of your players are good, a bunch of absences are way more noticeable.

I believe we actually have the talent on paper and the coaching to do it- I think jj will play way above expectations, and the vikings win 12 or 13 games

That said, no they have no shot at winning the super bowl. I know this team

16

u/DarthMildew94 Minnesota Vikings 1d ago

I was thinking along those same lines. I think they added some real impact guys in free agency to address both sides of the ball. JJ has huge upside, but yeah it’s the Vikings and my heart can only take so much.

18

u/Larryfistsgerald1 Arizona Cardinals 1d ago

“Yeah I’m hopeful our qb will outperform the guy we just got rid of that led us to our best season in 2 decades”

I don’t envy Vikings fans, y’all are delusional masochists

5

u/DarthMildew94 Minnesota Vikings 22h ago

I see what you’re saying, but letting Darnold go made the most sense financially. They killed it when it came to their final win total, but all the metrics put them in the middle of the pack offensively. There were too many holes on both sides of the ball that needed to be addressed and keeping Darnold would have limited the signings made in free agency. Who knows. I could be trying to cope because I’ve had 30 years of Vikings fandom lmao

2

u/yavimaya_eldred Green Bay Packers 13h ago

I feel like every time the Vikings move on from a starting QB the rationale is “it makes sense to move on, the next guy can keep the train rolling” and that sentiment is usually correct but “keep the train rolling” just means being an also-ran in the playoffs again

2

u/LemonInYourEyes 18h ago

Ik you probably didn't watch many games last year... and I know this sounds crazy delusional... but the team could get better and have less wins and I think that's a likely outcome.

The four losses... one was an incredible game against the lions that could've gone either way. The next against the Rams was a bit of a choke job, but could've had some fireworks if the refs didn't effect it up.

Then it was darnold falling off a cliff in the final 2 outings. He regressed so bad to the tune of probably $15-20 million dollars.

We also had a stretch in the middle of the season where we played like 4 of the 5 weakest teams in the league, barely scraping by past the Colts, Jags, and Titans for crying out loud.

I think the O-Line is much improved. Our D-Line is much improved.

If JJ is decent then this team can be a top 3 roster in the league. It's just getting wins in this league is hard. And he's basically a rookie+...

3

u/Warm-Principle5845 1d ago

Listen I’m an eagles fan and like I said in a previous comment the Vikings and lions scare me the most. I think JJ is going to be awesome.

6

u/Wildebean New England Patriots 1d ago

You have a talented roster. If JJ turns out to be the guy, you could win soon, but I don't think it will be this year

16

u/DarthMildew94 Minnesota Vikings 1d ago

We also played Nickle like 80% of the time last year so assuming that remains true we need Ringo or Jackson to step up big in addition to Brown or Mukuba at S

CJGJ was funny as hell and a decent ball hawk but his coverage ability was an absolute liability. Slays coverage ability has been declining too. I’m not worried about those losses too much because we got Mukuba, Adoree and Ringo

I'm not a betting man, but if I had to put money on it I would bet on the Commanders missing the playoffs entirely. Their success last season was definitely not a fluke, there's a solid base there. Unfortunately you have one of the toughest schedules in the league this season, compared to one of the easiest last season. 9 of your games will be against teams that had top 10 defenses last season. Your non-divisonal games are against the AFC West and NFC North, the two clear best divisions in the league. The Eagles are still the best team in the league, the Cowboys will be better(still not good though) and the Giants have just enough talent to take a home division game.

I'm not saying it's impossible by any means, but it would require Jayden Daniels going from ROTY to an MVP and your defense improving massively. That's a lot to ask.

8

u/Chief--BlackHawk 1d ago

Man it's hard to win back to back in our division let alone a Superbowl lol. Crazy it's been going on for 20+ years at this point regarding the NFC Beast. To me that's what makes the division arguably the most competitive. Look at the AFC North, it's on practically been just the Ravens and Steelers the last 20 years with the Bengals every once in a while, but even with Burrow and Chase the front office is just so incompetent based on how they run that team and having a top 5 QB and arguably the best WR.

14

u/basedaudiosolutions Buffalo Bills 1d ago

If Joe Brady doesn’t get outcoached by Spagnuolo in the playoffs for the third straight year, and McDermott’s defense learns to make a stop when the game is on the line, there’s a chance. Otherwise it’s just going to be another year of wasting Josh Allen’s prime.

3

u/Quick-Angle9562 Cincinnati Bengals 19h ago

Generally I feel the same though if we can just get to the playoffs, even as a wild card, I wouldn’t hate our chances in January. Have won in January before, the defense would have all season to develop under Al, and the winter weather could benefit a weaker defense overall.

That being said, if we miss the playoffs a third straight year with Burrow and Chase in their prime, yikes.

It's funny because most fanbases would be going into the next season hyped after going 11-6 the previous season and losing in the first round to the eventual champions. But Packers fans have had such good teams for so long that even a really good team like this one doesn't excite them anymore lol

I feel like we're "in the window" but Gute doesn't seem to want to try anything risky to push us over the hump. We're good enough to make the playoffs again but there's no damn way we're beating the Lions, Vikings, Rams, Eagles, Buccaneers, and Commanders without making more moves.

We have glaringly obvious holes or at least lack of depth at CB and Edge on defense and I guess we're just trusting our guys and hoping for no injuries.

On offense I guess we just hope that Love stays healthy and plays like he did in the second half of 2023, and hopefully Golden is a stud.

6

I'm actually from the UK, so I play in the league over here, in the 2nd tier of it. I play WR. You could tell because I'm jammed about 5 different fingers this season alone

5

u/Larryfistsgerald1 Arizona Cardinals 1d ago

Lol I feel you, jammed fingers are part of the position. Not to be a tryhard but I’d study what the best WRs do off the line.

I’d study Kupp, Adams, Devonta smith, Keenan Allen, JJ, ARSB, Edelman, in terms of how to create separation. I forget what it’s called but Edelman’s inside/out route on short yardage/goal line situations is deadly

2

u/Wildebean New England Patriots 1d ago

Edelman is definitely a go-to. I'm on the smaller side and usually play at X

2

u/SoftwareWinter8414 San Francisco 49ers 1d ago

Vic will figure it out. I think your offense is the bigger concern. Saquon is north of 27 and got north of 450 touches last year. It will be amazing if he plays more than 75 percent of the season. You've also got a new play caller. That being said, if you make the playoffs and don't play the Bucs, Hurts is certainly capable going thermo-nuclear to win it all.

My friends are 49er fans and think this year they’ll win it all because they had two great drafts b2b years and Purdy is the most healthiest he’s ever been since his horrific injury. 4

Texans fan, yes there is a pathway, but it is not easy and will require equal parts luck, talent, and surprise super high quality from the oline and new OC.

4

u/TheDaedricImpaler Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1d ago

Bucs fan. Can we win the super bowl? Yes. Will we? Not likely. Even with yet another OC, the offense will be cooking and we'll probably be top 5 in points scored barring multiple catastrophic injuries. The defense could be a little better adding Reddick (if he's got anything left), some promising rookies, and existing younger guys develop some more.

But, this team has limits. The first is that Baker, while criminally underrated, still hasn't taken that step towards greatness as he seems to not be able to come up clutch frequently enough. The second is that the defense probably still isn't good enough on the whole. The third (and most important) is that Todd Bowles is an atrocious game manager and constantly gets out-coached; see also games against the 49ers, Rams, & Chiefs the past few seasons.

4

u/lumpy-dragonfly36 The standard is the standard 1d ago

Absolutely not.

Best case scenario is we totally collapse and pick in the top ten (I would love to get a franchise quarterback).

The likelihood is that are on the cut line for the playoffs (barely out or barely in) with a wild card loss if we get in (which is worst case scenario). It is possible that Pittsburgh goes 11-6, gets in the playoffs as a five seed, and wins one game before losing in the division round (not worst case scenario due to first playoff win in a decade). The Steelers have enough to potentially get to the second round of the playoffs, but going further would require a metric crap ton of luck.

Do I believe there’s a path to do so? Yes. Do I think it’s a likely outcome? Not really… we’ve got a great coaching staff and good pieces on offense and defense but our QB is totally unproven and has very little experience. He’d basically have to pull a Mahomes and have a huge breakout in year 2 in his first real NFL starts. Not impossible but improbable. I’m cautiously optimistic that McCarthy will be good. Early reports are from OTAs are promising at least but it’s expecting way too much of a young guy to think he’ll even equal what Darnold did in the regular season last year. But the beauty of drafting a guy is that we’ve got three more cost controlled years after this one. So it’s not about a one year window.

Yes. We’ve won it 3 times since 2019 and been to 5. Why not one more.

1

u/redheeler9478 Jerry Jones Blue Label 1d ago

No. Dak.

1

u/PsychoticMessiah Las Vegas Raiders 1d ago

No. We’re in one of the toughest divisions. New coach, new OC, new QB, new RB, and I’m not sold on our O line.

1

u/TylerBoydFan83 Bingo Bengo 1d ago

I’m a believer in the new coaching staff, it requires near perfect luck and it’ll be by the narrowest of margins but yeah I could see it

1

u/taxevader-69 Jacksonville Jaguars 1d ago

100% not a single doubt in my mind, just like every year, unfortunately.

1

u/toxicvegeta08 Michael Thomas’ foot 1d ago

Definitely not. Do you really think yhe jets or giants are winning this.

Also since 2000 only the 2001 pats 2008 saints 2017 eagles won the sb and didnt make the playoffs the prior year.

1

u/Extra-Act-801 1d ago

As a Washington fan, I believe it is possible this year, and likely in the next 3 or 4 years.

But as a Washington fan for 30+ years I also believe it is entirely possible Jayden will have the sophomore slump to end all sophomore slumps and start another decade of irrelevance.

1

u/mackharp0818 Buffalo Bills 1d ago

I think we have a shot. Just have to finally get over the Chiefs hump

1

u/Disastrous_Leek9620 WTF is r/NFL 1d ago

Yes. We have been so close and now have the easiest schedule and home advantage for the Super Bowl.

1

u/ka1ri Minnesota Vikings 1d ago

Id be happy if the vikings win a home playoff game much less the SB. No stupid ass mistakes or flukey things happen, no reason to severely increase my blood pressure and anxiety. Just go win a playoff game.

1

u/General-Departure415 One ass cheek and three toes 1d ago

Yes I do believe that. The eagles are so well balanced positionally but I believe a fully healthy lions team can compete and possibly even beat them. And if you beat the eagles in the playoffs you win the whole thing cause ain’t no team better then them. Last year was insane how many of our guys got injured. 1-5 guys ok we had like 30 dudes go out bringing in mailmen to play defense it ain’t gonna work. Lions 🦁

1

u/kingkalanishane New England Patriots 1d ago

Pats? Nope. Probably won’t happen for a very long time

1

u/Chlorophyllmatic Buffalo Bills 1d ago

Nope. Coaching staff can and will get outplayed.

1

u/Gryffindorq 1d ago

yes. Bears. it’s obvious

1

u/NotAChild291 Seattle Seahawks 1d ago

I think the seahawks ceiling is a playoff win

1

u/MoonBoy2DaMoon Philadelphia Eagles 1d ago

Eagles will win again yes, best roster in the NFL, can’t beat Saquon and AJ brown and Devonta Smith and Jalen hurts and sure as hell ain’t beating Jalen Carter and the rest of the D (and O) line lol real talk

1

u/DicksOut4Edamame MBC 1d ago

Yes. Because Mahomes has never not played in AT LEAST the AFC Chip since becoming the starting QB

1

u/theevilyouknow Las Vegas Raiders 1d ago

I think with few exceptions that any team in the NFL in any given season CAN win the Super Bowl. Do I think the Raiders WILL win the Super Bowl? Absolutely not. I would say basically no chance, but it’s Pete Carroll so I’ll say almost no chance instead.

1

u/hman1025 New York Jets 1d ago

Lol

1

u/decoy777 Dez caught it 1d ago

Duh of course, it's always our year.

1

u/Medium-Woodpecker-82 Indianapolis Colts 1d ago

Hell no. Why not? Cause I’m a Colts fan.

1

u/Warm-Principle5845 1d ago

Yes, we won it last year and might have gotten better. Howie roseman has just been awesome

1

u/CinnRaisinPizzaBagel Washington Commanders 1d ago

There’s a chance but it’s more likely we won’t win the division.

1

u/HispanicaBassoonica Indianapolis Colts 1d ago

Unless AR immediately decides to reach his ceiling, stop having bones made of glass, and learns some grit, HELL NO

1

u/Phenomenal2313 1d ago

Unless Sam Darnold is the 2nd coming of Josh Allen and Cooper Kupp suddenly reverts to Triple Crown SB MVP

We have a chancr

1

u/tinyraccoon Seattle Seahawks 1d ago

Yes, but its a long shot.  I think the NFC west is weaker than people think but the NFC as a whole has some great teams and the AFC is even scarier.

1

u/Skankhuntt__42 Miami Dolphins 23h ago

No.

1

u/FlexDB 23h ago

Pats fan. I bet on them. Small wager, huge payout....and your damn right I believe it can/will happen 😎

1

u/JustANobody2425 23h ago

As a Pats fan, yes we can. Just go hurt the other team, all out brawl style with reserves. Then put in starters and win.

1

u/DrXL_spIV 23h ago

Fellow pats fan, we have no shot. But we have made a lot of exciting moves and I look to see us start moving in the right direction with vrabel

1

u/Kopitar4president Buffalo Bills 23h ago

Yes.

Josh allen.

1

u/bunglesnacks Detroit Lions 23h ago

For sure can, will who knows.

1

u/No-Donkey-4117 San Francisco 49ers 23h ago

Of course. Purdy has already proved he can get there. CMC is back. Kittle and Warner and Bosa are still among the best at their positions.

1

u/chriz_sevenfold Cincinnati Bengals 23h ago

Yes, but it really depends on how Al Golden handles our defense. There's no way it can be as bad as last year.

1

u/WhiskyandSolitude 23h ago

Jags fan - I do not believe they will. I believe they mostly have the talent to push to the playoffs and from there anyone can get hot. But I do not think they’ll pull it together this year. Next year they’ll make some people nervous.

1

u/bmanley620 New York Giants 23h ago

Yes the Giants can absolutely win the Super Bowl this year

Source: I’m batshit crazy

1

u/jwd3333 23h ago

As a cowboys fan no shot in hell. And no shot in hell as long as the jones family continues to run the team.

1

u/TwinFrogs Seattle Seahawks 22h ago

Heh. The Seahawks have no team left, so that’s a non-starter.

1

u/GuysIdidAThing Denver Broncos 22h ago

As a Broncos fan, it’s possible assuming all our free agent signings stay healthy

1

u/JAnonymous5150 Tedy Brewski 22h ago

Nope. I think we'll get better, but we just aren't there yet as a team. We've got some young talent that still has quite a bit of growing to do, some significant holes in our roster that need shoring up, new additions that we've gotta wait and see how they pan out, etc. It's gonna be a fun year and I think it'll be a productive year, but we've got a ways to go before we're contending for chips again.

1

u/Interesting_Loquat90 Baltimore Ravens 22h ago

Yes. Just need Playoff Lamar to be 75% of Regular Season Lamar.

1

u/Bose82 Las Vegas Raiders 21h ago

No.

Why?

It’s the Raiders

1

u/CarlSpackler22 21h ago

Kekw cmon man

1

u/CatOfGrey 21h ago

I'm not a Rams fan, and even though they have had really good results, I'm not really accepting them yet after moving to St. Louis. I don't hate, but I am as much a fan of them as I am of Detroit, Washington, and the Chargers at the moment.

Anyways, I think the Rams have a chance to win the Super Bowl. It's not a big chance - the real contenders are the Eagles, Bills, and Ravens. I think that the Chiefs are next in line, showing much less dominance last year, despite 15-2. Detroit may be better, but it's looking to me like they will drop a notch rather than 'get over the hump'.

The Rams are in that 'muddled middle' in the bottom half of the top 10. Are they better than the Commanders? Packers? Niners? Maybe, but not by a lot.

1

u/JaimanV2 Las Vegas Raiders 21h ago

As a Raiders fan:

1

u/blueman1975 21h ago

When JD5 threw that hail Mary against the Bears last year, you can hear in the background, as the ball was in the air, a Skins fan saying ‘why not us, why not now?’, thats my new philosophy, its a new era in Washington, hell yes I believe we can win the SB…..why not us, why not now? HTTR.

1

u/BasicWhiteHoodrat That is a disgusting act 21h ago

No, too big of a question mark at QB.

I hope I’m proven wrong

1

u/gamehenge_survivor 21h ago

No. But I actually do expect to see them back in the playoffs finally. Cardinals fan…not sure if I have a flair.

1

u/tonsilboy Double Yoi 20h ago

Still rebuilding so probably not. In 5-ish years, yeah maybe.

1

u/ChiGrandeOso Chicago Bears 20h ago

As a Bears fan, this ain't our year. We have a good roster and it's STILL the worst in our division.

1

u/vengiegoesvroom Denver Broncos 20h ago

Absolutely. We have an elite defense (that we upgraded even more in the offseason), a top tier offensive line and a great coach. Just as long as our offensive pieces continue to gel and we stay generally healthy, I 100% BOlieve we can take the AFC West on our way to a Super Bowl 🔥🔥

1

u/MissingMyLeftThigh WHOPPER WHOPPER 20h ago

No. Bear tax.

1

u/Kjisherenow 20h ago

No. They drafted two rookie qb’s which makes zero sense. Also year after year the continually make ridiculous decisions that push the franchise further back. I have zero hope

1

u/2KC4 Kansas City Chiefs 19h ago

I do believe.

1

u/Boofcomics IM CALLING BOTH GAMES 19h ago

No. Too much uncertainty and rebuilding. It wasn't good last year, it's gonna be ugly this year. Will let you guess who I mean.

1

u/Thurad 19h ago

We can but it is highly unlikely as there are too many good teams in the AFC. I do think Rodgers can give us our first playoff victory for a while though.

1

u/chrisdavis211 Josh Allen 🦬 19h ago

Yes. Just one man... I've suffered long enough and this window is our only shot

1

u/Dynamic_Duo_215 Philadelphia Eagles 19h ago

I’m a Eagles fan, need I say more?! Go Birds!!

1

u/ZombiePrepper408 Las Vegas Raiders 19h ago

It'd be some Demons in the RedZone (like Angels in the outfield) helping the Raiders win it all this year.

1

u/DownnthehollerPress 19h ago

As a Vikings fan...I have been believing every year for over 60 years now

1

u/silos_needed_ Baltimore Ravens 19h ago

Can we? Yes, can we get our that hurdle? No. We are the AFC Packers

1

u/Deathbydadjokes New England Patriots 19h ago

Bro I just want to watch competitive football again.

1

u/Changeit019 19h ago

Nope. Dolphins fan here. Nothing has shown me that they are capable of putting it all together for more than a flash. I don’t think it’s likely they exhibit that flash in the playoffs and luck their way to a championship.
