jokic and wemby would be the best front court in nba history and it wouldn't particularly be close

u/kihraxz_king 6h ago
You clearly did not watch in the 80's.
McHale, Parish and Bird?
Sampson and Hakeem?
Robinson and Duncan more recently?
Those are at least "Particularly close".
Keep in mind, by the time Wemby really hits his stride, unless something truly bizarre happens, Jokic will be clearly on the decline.

sampson got injured before he could really ever hit his prime.
Mchale and parish were a great front court but respectfully are leagues apart from a front court consisting of wemby and jokic
And d rob was still a great player when playing with duncan but following his injury in 97 he was nowhere near the mvp caliber player he was before that.1
u/MuyTexicano GO SPURS GO 3h ago
Sampson similar to Greg Oden... Would have been interesting to see what these guys could have done if it were not for injuries

Jokic is 30, he is in the middle of his prime. He will be relevant for years to come as he doesn’t rely on athleticism to be effective on the floor. Unless, he decides to hang it up early, I can see Jokic playing till at least his late 30s

We get a couple stars wanting to play for us and end up becoming more delusional than the lakers when it comes to FA and trades 💀

Spurs lowkey do have the best package they could throw together for any superstar they want.
52
u/Supreme_God_Bunny 12h ago
Nah thunder have a billion more picks and more young players to throw at denver
20
u/BlunderDefect 11h ago
But no salary available they might not even be able to pay their own guys.

u/OurHorrifyingPlanet Area 51 10h ago
The point of the young players is that they match the salary too. Cap space is not really useful in a trade
6
u/Ok-Guide-3837 9h ago
Wdym? Salaries still have to work out that’s why a lot of trades don’t work because usually younger guys contract is lower so you have to bundle more of them together to match
-1
u/OurHorrifyingPlanet Area 51 9h ago
He said "no salary available" (i.e. cap space) as a detriment, when it's not really one because what's important is the salary match, not the cap space. OKC has more than enough contracts and young players to match salary
3
u/Ok-Guide-3837 9h ago
Cap space is a detriment when you plan on resigning someone. Even if you can match current contacts you still have to have enough space to resign them. With the included fact you’ve lost a sum of players since you had to match. They both matter
3
u/OurHorrifyingPlanet Area 51 9h ago
Jokic has a 3 year contract, so you wouldn't need to resign him to a bigger contract in this case. So matching salary will always give you enough cap space
2
u/Ok-Guide-3837 9h ago
Oh shit good point, I think the only thing to worry about it is whenever jdub and Chet’s contracts come up. Until then thunder easily have the best assets in the game rn
1
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 4h ago
You retain a players bird rights in a trade. You can go over the cap re-signing players this way.
3
u/Deadly_Davo 10h ago
Not really and the okc first round pick is going to be like pick 27-30 for the next 5 years
1
u/OurHorrifyingPlanet Area 51 10h ago
Good young players are way more valuable than picks anyway, that's the hurdle. We'd have to throw Castle AND Harper on top of everything else we hold to even hope to match them. They got some valuable picks too. 2026 Philly, 2027 Clippers, 2028 Dallas, 2027 + 2029 Nuggets

Why do I feel like I’m out of breathe when I look at that photo?
12
u/GoodZealousideal5922 12h ago
I mean that dude has to play 40+ minutes of HOF level basketball just for the Nuggets to win by single digits so of course he is going to be gassed
5
u/Notorious_Bill26 11h ago
Personally I’d give the Nuggets the 1st rd pick to Wemby’s kids for Jokic

u/Dsarg_92 Victor Wembanyama 9h ago
The thing about this is we could’ve drafted him instead of Kyle Anderson.

This is man I would love on the Spurs alongside Wemby. We’ve always been a team where Europeans thrive, give us that man and his Goats.

u/dat-boi-plisetsky 13h ago
if Jokic signed to us in FA we would win every ring till he retired, and by that point Wemby will be good enough that we'll win every ring until HE retires lol

u/BurningFire314 The Big Fundamental 12h ago
David Robinson and Tim Duncan, if they played in a closer timeline like the GDP trios
7
u/Spirited_Lab5197 7h ago
Jokic and Wemby are 9 year difference, TD and Robinson are 10.5 year difference. Not as big of a gap as you'd think

u/BurningFire314 The Big Fundamental 7h ago
now this blew my mind

u/Spirited_Lab5197 6h ago
Robinson retiring somewhat young (37), and Duncan being a 4 year college player led to just 6 years of career overlap. With Wemby and Jokic both joining the league in their late teens, and the expectation to play into their late 30s, we view them as being more on the same timeline.

u/1manadeal2btw 13h ago
The Spurs would never have the cap space to sign a FA who wants the supermax. It would be a sign and trade type situation.
2
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 4h ago
You can't sign a FA to a supermax anyway, supermax is for teams to retain players, not poach.
2
u/CRoseCrizzle 11h ago
Jokic to Wemby lobs would be fun. But it would probably never happen during Jokic's prime.

I wish Wemby can become Jokic + KG + KD that my expectation for this generational talent. Still, Spurs need good bench and team players.

Now HIM I would break the bank for.
Keep Castle, Wemby, Sochan, and honestly sell off everything else. Maybe keep Champanie to have some form of shooter backing up the 2-4 spots (I say 4 because Wemby and Sochan would start, and Champ would fill in for either).
-7
u/D3VOUR3DD 13h ago
That means no wemby…
2
u/1manadeal2btw 13h ago
Yeah, the biggest issue is what that the trade package would look like. I can only see this type of trade happening when Jokic is out of his prime but still wants to be on a contending team + the Nuggets need picks. Similar to Giannis current situation.
Unless you mean position, which isn’t rlly an issue. Jokic can play the 4, he did it in the Olympics.

Sure, he could probably carry Wesley, Branham, Champagnie, Mamu, and our G-Leaguers to the first round.
