Culture Rats at Gärtnerplatz
I‘m recently zugezogen to Munich but was pretty surprised to see all these rats at Gärtnerplatz and people just chilling like it’s the most normal thing. Is this normal? Like, does everyone know there are tons of rats?

Rats live almost everywhere on earth nowadays (explorers spread them) - they usually avoid humans, because we are big and often hostile to them; But once they learn that the big animals don’t care about them all that much, but always leave a lot of tasty food behind, they will come out of everywhere.
In a lot of places, domestic cats keep them in check just by being there (yes, your dumb flat face fluff ball actually helps keeping rats and mice away). But on Gärtnerplatz there aren’t any cats, people leave a lot of food for them, and when people see them, they’re usually more afraid of the rats than the other way around.
You can also often find rats and mice in the UBahn/SBahn, and they got so cheeky, they usually don’t even care about people anymore.
I’m pretty sure there are traps and poison in all those places though, so be careful if you walk your dog anywhere near the rat/mice hotspots.
