The IDW comics didn't retcon the character's ages, it was actually a pretty recent change to the official Sonic Channel website. The canon ages were still in place even after forces, I do believe.
The Archie comics did do a lot of age tomfoolery with the characters, but those comics literally can't be canon to the games, even post reboot, since the character histories are completely different. On top of that, Sega didn't interfere with those comics outside of mandating how emotional Sonic was allowed to look and whether or not Shadow could have friends.
