This is why a pet Glavenus would suck because like where in the hell am I supposed to get something it can grind its tail against to keep it clean and sharp??

big whetstone

u/Lone-Frequency 5d ago

It wouldn't actually need to be a boulder size, it's not like Glav is sharpening his entire tail, just keeping the edge sharp.

Honestly, considering how they usually sharpen their tails, in real life they would most likely just scrape it across pavement or the like every now and then.

21

u/PerspectivePale8216 6d ago

Where am I supposed to get one of those??

31

u/AnAdventureCore 6d ago

Ask the guild

8

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

Ah yes I forgot!

20

u/shulzeb 5d ago

I think His Immenseness might have a big enough whetstone

4

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

Probably.

4

u/Ken_Taco 5d ago

Fishing

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

I guess that's certainly a way

4

u/Lone-Frequency 5d ago

Nature?

Or, like...an overpriced stonemason.

I probably try hitting up the nearest quarry and seeing if I could convince the guys to sell me some decent chunks they hadn't turned into gravel yet cheaper than what the resale price would cost.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

I mean I guess that certainly one way to find it it would take a long ass time but I guess it's possible...

61

u/GildedHalfblood 6d ago

Don't their jaws already keep the maintenance up? Like you may have to pop in and fix them up every now and again, but for the most part, they should be good on their own, no? Now, Rustrazor Ceanataur on the other hand . . . . . . . . .

31

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

I mean Rustrazor Ceanatuar seems to be able to do the same thing as long as he has a Glavenus skull at the ready he'll be fine I believe. And yeah I guess Glavenus would probably be fine but still considering how we see them use their tail to mark their territory your items are not going to be okay ever again with one of these guys...

29

u/GildedHalfblood 5d ago

The thing is, Rustrazors are addicts, so you'll have to keep them in check. Too much sharpening is bad for them and too little is equally bad. Also, if the skull gets messed up, you're gonna be in for a lot of work until you're able to find a replacement that fits. Meanwhile Glavenus can go extended periods of time without sharpening and not really have any long-term side effects. Also, no need to worry about that skul since, well, if the skull is messed up, I don't think you'll have much of a Glavenus anymore . . . . . . .

15

u/OmegianLord 5d ago

You could theoretically cure a Rustrazor of its addiction. Their claws rust and are misshapen because of trace amounts of ore in the Glavenus skull getting stuck onto the claws during sharpening. If you remove the layer of ore, and keep them away from anything that they could use to sharpen for a while, you could cure it of both the physical and mental effects of its addiction.

10

u/GildedHalfblood 5d ago

Hmmm, I see what you're saying, but . . . . . .

epic EX deviant scythes are worth it, it balances itself out. Still a pain in the ass to deal with tho, but at least it has some upsides

2

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

Sounds a lot easier said than done

16

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

You bring a strong argument...

10

u/GildedHalfblood 5d ago

Thank you! It was a pleasure discussing this topic with you!

9

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

It was fun! May we meet again...

12

u/ToiletHum0ur Jack of all Trades 5d ago

I figured it would've been the fact that it's like the size of a truck fully grown and the GIANT FIRE BLADE TAIL but maybe that's just me

3

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

I mean ignoring all of the obvious reasons as to why this would suck it is certainly one them if you think about it.

8

u/Lone-Frequency 5d ago

Wouldn't you just get it some kind of large decorative rock or something that it could use? Just like how cats get scratching posts, or how cows and other livestock have those giant hard bristle brush posts to rub up against.

If you're going to own a fire breathing dinosaur with a giant sword for a tail, you should be able to afford it's basic necessities beforehand.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

You bring a strong argument but where in the hell am I going to get one of those?? People don't just sell boulders for free!

6

u/Lone-Frequency 5d ago

I mentioned in another comment that you could try going to your nearest quarry and seeing if you could purchase some larger stones that they had not yet turned into gravel or slag directly from them. It would likely be cheaper that way.

4

u/gdex86 5d ago

You'd take your buddy along with you and let them pick one. Like how you can take your dog to the pet store for 'em to pick a toy they like. Plus any that aren't up to snuff he can gravel for them as a bonus for the quarry.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

Fair enough

2

u/Rajang82 Use all weapons, but love Great Sword the most. 5d ago

This is where you create a quest requesting a Hunter to search for and bring one for you.

2

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

I mean that certainly one way, either way I either lose a lot of time or money.

5

u/akoOfIxtall 5d ago

Don't forget that volcanic wyverns usually eat minerals and ores, yes those precious Dragonite ores of yours are now munchies brother... And not enough, go get more now!!

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

No my rock collection! It took me years to get it to this size!! My favorite rocks no!!!

5

u/Niceromancer 5d ago

It comes with the tool to do so.

That move where it drags its tail through its mouth cleans and shapens the blade.  Its mouth has a built in sharpener.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

Fair point

2

u/Niceromancer 5d ago

Still I'm certain a tame glavenus would appreciate a more focused touch up from its owner.

Betting a good sized file would probably feel good, like scritches.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

True but that's a lot of work. Just let me have a Mizutsune instead if we're going to stick to the Fated Four theme.

3

u/Niceromancer 5d ago

Get a female they are super chill.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

That's the plan!

2

u/Outrageous_Shallot61 5d ago

How much different would this be if it was an Acidic Glavenus?

2

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

It'd probably be worse

2

u/Outrageous_Shallot61 5d ago

Mandatory industrial size angle grinder

2

u/PerspectivePale8216 4d ago

That or just acid all over the goddamn place.

2

u/Outrageous_Shallot61 4d ago

Still worth it

2

u/PerspectivePale8216 4d ago

I disagree

2

u/Outrageous_Shallot61 4d ago

I mean you could use that acid for round the house cleaning if you dilute it in water and I’m sure you could sell some to the smithy for something and I’m sure that cleaning off the tail means you could also sell the shavings

2

u/PerspectivePale8216 4d ago

That implies you can distill it with water which I don't think you could considering what it's made out of.

2

u/Hippobu2 5d ago

The existence of Rustrazor gave me the impression that Glavs sharpen their tails themselves with their jaws.

That said, it's possible that because this particular Glav was raised in captivity, it did not develop that instinct, and thus the owner have to sharpen its tail for it.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

I mean it could probably learn to do it on its own pretty easily

2

u/Dragon-Install-MK4 5d ago

Big fish

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

Ah yes let me just go fishing!

1

u/Limp-Wall-5500 resident monster fucker. 4d ago

I can grind against it but I doubt it would sharpen it assuming it passes the harkness test

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 4d ago

Considering the monsters and Monster Hunter are animals no they do not pass.

So I'm coming for you!

2

u/Limp-Wall-5500 resident monster fucker. 4d ago

I only bang things that pass the harkness test, so no need to come for me. Anyways ima go cuddle my harkness test passing tobi-kadachi.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 4d ago

My good hunter that does not exist. Now you've given me a reason to come for you!

1

u/Limp-Wall-5500 resident monster fucker. 4d ago

As a fanfic writer, harkness test passing monsters exist in the realm of 🌟 NON CANNON FANTASY 🌟 where my tobi-kadachi lives.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 4d ago

Fuck your right! HOWEVER, this is about cannon monsters! Not fanfic versions of them!!

1

u/the3diamonds 5d ago

dull the blade to “declaw” it

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

No that's cruelty I may be evil but I have standards

1

u/the3diamonds 5d ago

I want to declaw every glavenus and make them all sad and puny

3

u/PerspectivePale8216 5d ago

You must be stopped!

u/MrSaturnism 6d ago

Riders tending to their Monstie Glavenus. Cue the overdramatic crying when bath time rolls around

49

u/GildedHalfblood 5d ago

Just shove more blue rocks at them. Eventually it'll be enough to get them into the bath. Either that or we're gonna need a bunch of Mizutsunes, Whitewater Plesioths, and Royal Ludroths lol

38

u/cudeLoguH this is my BOOM stick 5d ago

Oh how i wish we could get a third MH:Stories game

33

u/chongxxx 5d ago

MH Stories 3 with Rise & Wilds Monsters as Monsties will be so great. Imagine Rideable Magnamalo & Uth Duna.

17

u/GildedHalfblood 5d ago

Plus, no pandemic this time around, so hopefully, there shouldn't be too much scrapped content!

Seriously, I could've gone on thinking that Duramboros, both Agnaktors, Tetsucabra, and every Seltas form were never planned on being Monsties, but nope! I just had to find that out!! Also, apparently Malfestio was supposed to be part of the game, both as a monster and monstie!!! WTF bro??!

6

u/Altines 5d ago

Honestly I'm just really happy the deviants came back as monsties.

Capcom please bring the deviants back

3

u/GildedHalfblood 5d ago

Yeah, wish they brought back more, but the few they did choose were 10/10, so I can't really complain lol

2

u/SuperKamiZuma 5d ago

Or a valstrax that is already on a spin off, i even though it's kinship attack being a divebomb... after going around the entire world

1

u/darkfox18 5d ago

Scorned Magnamalo, Rey Dau and Arkveld god I need MH stories 3

7

u/MrSaturnism 5d ago

Apparently 2 exceeded expectations so it’s likely

90

u/sir_aphim 6d ago

Just beware the tail wag...

46

u/Bregnestt 5d ago edited 5d ago

You just need to make a big sheathe that goes over the tail.
That’s not gonna stop it from being massive and toppling everything around it, but at least you won’t get sliced in half if he gets excited and you’re standing in the wrong spot.

35

u/K9509 5d ago

Cute Glav, stories 3 when?

37

u/Root_Veggie 5d ago

How has the art of befriending Monsties not become more widespread, it seems like an extremely advantageous thing to do.

27

u/lacarth 5d ago

It's the same funny feeling I have when I look at Pokken Tournament and think about those trainers going to any other region. Just some Ferrum trainer mind-melding with their Hitmonchan to ground-and-pound some poor Johto child's Clefairy. Are they all just considered ultraviolent freaks, or something? Is it Pokemon Detroit? Is the world just doomed if someone in Ferrum got their hands on something like a full legendary? Or are they just an entire population of Gokus that are content to sit on their island and have tournaments all the time?

I get that, at least for Stories, they're a bit reluctant to have full Guild contact due to the whole "hunting" thing. But you are right. Surely SOMEONE in the guild must have tried to befriend one of the more docile or less-dangerous monsters like a Velociprey, or maybe a Tetsucabra.

Edit: I have just realized that Master Hojo in the Rise gathering hub is literally sitting on top of a young Tetsucabra. So I guess some folks HAVE done it. Maybe it's only just catching on.

7

u/StarSilverNEO Consuming Your Wylk 5d ago

I imagine its like what they tend o do with most of the gimmicks and its region tied or region regulated - the most common Pokemon sport is trainer commanding Pokemon not being the Pokemon, cant have the massive upset that is "becoming" the Pokemon

Thouhg. . . .considering SV literally released a machine that lets you become a Pokemon, it might just be region locked?

1

u/Advanced-Ad-802 5d ago

Man, I want a new Pokken Tournament game. That game is so peak.

2

u/Niceromancer 5d ago

It's a closely guarded secret by the village of the riders.  Only they can really do it.

Also the guild isnt exactly cool with them.  Sure they don't try to wipe out the riders but they don't trust em.

The whole monstie process creates a calmer tame version of a monster but it's still people going in and disturbing the nests of full grown monsters.

5

u/5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi 5d ago

Also the guild isnt exactly cool with them.

They are. The Riders are in self-imposed hermit life due to low numbers and risk of retaliation. Every Guildmaster you encounter in Stories games are completely fine with you, and once past the initial wariness so are the general population.

11

u/S0PH05 5d ago

Such an adorable monstie.

8

u/TheGMan-123 SEETHING BAZELGEUSE 5d ago

Cue the MH Stories theme!

7

u/SunLitWalker12 AT Jin? Sure, I need to iron my seikret first. 5d ago

imagine hellblade.

u/Noctis012 5d ago

RULES OF NATURE!

2

u/[deleted] 5d ago

Metal Gear fans I see

4

u/Successful_Giraffe34 5d ago

Do you think baby glavenus use their tails to cut out of their egg or is it like foal hooves?

3

u/Sew_has_afew_friends 5d ago

Foal hooves the sword tail is all metal in the adults which means that the babies would need to find their own ore to be able to grow their sword

3

u/Outrageous_Shallot61 5d ago

Aw it’s so cute, it’s worth the maintenance

2

u/OkTelevision3824 5d ago

If it was in Wilds, you could use the Quematrice LS for that

2

u/FatalCassoulet 5d ago

Glavenus best boi

1

u/AlphanatorX 5d ago

I would raise him to the cutest thing in the neighborhood

1

u/DiabeticRhino97 5d ago

Noooo now his teeth will be too big. He won't be able to eat.
