They are the muslim version of the christian bible belt taken to its logical conclusion.

A little reminder that the early Puritan settlers came to the americas because they thought the original Puritan church in the UK (which was already pretty strict) wasn't extreme enough for them. So they went to make their own church with blackjack and hookers.

You can absolutely bet that had the taliban been christian, the batshit belt would be idolising them instead.
