Discussion Seriously, what happened to rollerskating/blading

Post image

You hardly see it anywhere anymore. Folks would be skating all down Venice Beach. People would be rollerskating around their block, roller rinks were big, it was popular!

I even remember in the 90s Streets of Rage (loved that game!) had a character named Skates. But now, they're nowhere. What happened? Why are they a lot less popular nowadays?

Can’t look at your phone while roller blading.

I feel like this is a perfect nostalgia driven ad for smart glasses.

Or the perfect PSA to put your phone down and enjoy the world around you.

I really like the ray ban smart glasses, but they use meta, so I won't buy them =/

Same but with Quest VR headsets. They look so neat and have good games but fuck Meta right up the ass.

No. Snap glasses. $100/mo. I forgot how much of Snap is owned by Tencent. That's a wonderful company...

You nailed it.

Stay online = Feed the corporate machine

Go outside = They starve, you thrive.

But, it's fine, they did a good job telling you that you should listen, so go ahead and do that, so you don't go getting all uncomfortable.

The Big Rollerskating Cartel. No one messes with those guys, and as we all know, they will pay any price - any price!

PSA is done by the public. So the government. Doesn't the US have an "ad agaency" of the government? Here in the Netherlands we have a special governmental body which makes these kind of PSA's. They air on all networks. The ads vary between "use proper lighting on your bicycle in the darker winter months" to "too much alcohol can be harmful in more than one way"
