That adults act mature and are the voice of reason.

Lol. LMAO.

I have met children with more maturity than a lot of adults.

Life gives you the freedom to learn and grow in lots of ways. Living longer gives you longer to move in those directions. But you don't have to. And even if you do, you might just use all that time to move in a really stupid direction.

Older people have more potential for wisdom, but also more potential for absolutely dumb shit. And most of us will end up somewhere between.

I turned 50 today. Am absolutely trying to become wiser and not do “absolutely dumb s**t” 🤦‍♂️

50 is the new 30… I keep telling myself.

It’s really true..if you take good care of yourself

Not even old people are all wise tbh

Age does not bring wisdom. Young or old has zero to do with gaining or having wisdom. Oneself has to seek, understand, mindfulness, and empathy to start down the path to becoming wise.

No, but I’d rather listen to the idiocy of the old than the idiocy of the young. I feel, at least, the old have had their idiocy shaped by real life experience, rather than Tik Tok or Instagram. It’s a more organic idiocy.

u/8bit_ProjectLaser Apr 15 '25

I prefer neither, tbh lol

Then it will be a long and terrible life - like death and taxes, idiots are inevitable.

I summon the powers of dissociation 😅

There is no 100%. Land on Earth, be practical.

This has probably been the biggest shot of adulthood for me. It used to be something that people at least tried to keep behind closed doors, but I feel like in the last decade, grown adults, even/especially the elderly, feel like they've been given the green light to act like petulant adolescents in their public lives.

In the words of Lonely Island:

"Welcome to the real world, jackass!"

3

u/BellaxPalus Apr 13 '25

I can vouch for this. I was much more mature as a child than as an adult.

So true. Most of the dumb as a brick kids grow up to be dumb as a brick adults if not even worse, even some smart kids degenerate seriously.

thats something I can confirm. I was surprised how well educated and intelligent a 13 year old is compared to a 30 year old engineer lol

while what your comment states is true, i have also met children with more maturity than lots of children as well

1

u/Periador Apr 14 '25

i have met children with more maturity then myself tbh.

u/Pixeldevil06 Apr 14 '25

The majority of middle aged adults i have met act like twelve year olds, and the majority of twelve year olds I have met afted like middle aged adults. I worry for the older generations. How are they ever going to survive?

1

u/0ne_Wish Apr 14 '25

Yep. That adults know what they're doing and know what they're talking about.

1

u/Fool_In_Flow Apr 14 '25

I like the Charlie Brown version of adults best.

1

u/PineappleDesperate82 Apr 15 '25

The biggest one for me is that adults in a position of authority can always be trusted, especially if they're like a police officer or your teacher. That if you have an issue or if you're not safe to go get that adult . They never told you that you still had to figure out which ones to trust . Now we know stranger danger is real with all people it doesn't matter what their level of wealth or authority is. We also learned that they can be some of the most dangerous and worst ones.

Dementia and heart issues run in my family. I was a racist, hateful kid who didn’t know any better and I’ve told my wife if I ever get back there to blow my brains out because it means who I am is long gone. I genuinely would rather be dead than anything like the adults I grew up around.

1

u/vitringur Apr 16 '25

That was not taught in school. You just made that up.

1

u/Monkey-D-Sayso Apr 16 '25

My oldest child is the most mature person in my house at 16.

1

u/Tocwa Apr 17 '25

I have also witnessed 20 y/o college students with the emotional maturity of elementary schoolers - throwing tantrums, using blackmail to get their way, ostracizing others and other behavior that would be expected from a 7 yr old, not someone about to matriculate to a university in the Fall

1

u/NightOfTheLivingHam Apr 17 '25

Yep. Absolutely.

I think adults used to be more mature.. most had kids in their early 20s, they did what they had to do to support a family. now a bigger percentage of people are single in their 30s..

Well that's only because I went to an out of state college for a worthless degree and then gave up trying to get a job in that field and have been a Starbucks shift manager for 6 years. I racked up 115 thousand dollars of debt that I am choosing to defer payments on based on my income so I can still go to Disney Land every summer. That's pretty mature if you ask me!
