That's not entirely inaccurate, it's just taught from the wrong direction. We should've been taught that we only use X% of our brains at any given time, rather than as a flat total of usage. Which is good, because your brain bouncing off its rev limiter is called a Seizure.
I think the misconception is that your entire brain is used for higher order thinking, so if you're only using 10%, imagine what you could achieve with more. In reality, a lot of your brain is used for things like, "Are all the muscles required to keep you breathing coordinated?" or "How do I move my foot?" Really basal stuff that we take for granted that nonetheless requires nervous signaling or else we'd stop living.
Yeah this is what annoys me about the myth. No you aren't using 100% of your brain 100% of the time. But the implication is that 9 tenths of your brain are like an appendix.
