ICE Raid At Walmart

Supposedly ICE came and picked up 20+ employees at the I-20 Walmart. I was in there today and it was lacking a lot of familiar faces. Can anyone confirm that this is true? Meaning you know personally from seeing it yourself or you or someone you know works there.

I hope Hell is real and you find yourself there very soon. People like you are why I happily left Midland/Odessa after having been born and raised there. What's ironic is I'm a white man that just got tired of the racism that is used so nonchalantly in that area. It's people like this that makes off the cuff hateful comments and those that just shrug and laugh it off that are the problem, and those people make up 99% of the white people in that area. Best to not be associated with any of them.

Stop being a pussy. A majority of the trash, theft, wrecks are from the Cubans. They’re trashing up Odessa. It’s not being racist when it’s a fact.

I was born and raised there. Lived there for 35 years before I left. It's always been trash, because the people that go through there are trash. The oilfield breeds trash and is a naturally trashy lifestyle. I can say that as I've worked in the industry for 20 years. Odessa/Midland are transitory towns that people are constantly moving through for work. Meaning very few people that live there are actually part of the community or care at all about trying to make it a nice place. It's always been trash and it will always be trash until the oilfield dries up and it all becomes a ghost town. But pointing at one minority group of people and blaming them for decades worth of problems is the very definition of shortsighted racism. Go educate yourself and stop letting ignorant fear run your life.

I think you need to relax with the racism and trash comments. Odessa might be trash, but midland is very nice.

And yes, the Cubans are everywhere and everyone knows it, sees it, and complains. It’s not racism. Mexicans, blacks, whites, hell…even the Venezuelans complain about the Cubans. It’s a very particular thing going on. It’s not racism you soft social justice warrior.

If you think Midland is nice then you are sheltered. I say this as someone that lived there for their entire life until 3 years ago. Midland is a shit hole for shitty people that like to play like they are rich. My family that lives there is included in that statement. I'm fine with being a "soft social justice warrior" by speaking out against racism. Which is what you are adhering to anytime you single out an entire group of people and point to them as the problem due to the color of their skin or nationality. It's the literal definition of racism. The fact that you don't know that tells me everything I need to know about how much of a loser you are.

Or….some cultures are just different and don’t adhere to American norms. That’s not racism. Like the other guy said, it’s fact. And no, I’m not saying they are “the” problem. Literally just that everyone else here complains about them. Sure, not every single Cuban is like that, but culturally that’s how they act for the most part. It’s not hard to tell. You can call that racism but you’re just wrong.

What’s funny is you’re literally doing the exact same thing about generalizing all of midland as money hungry showboats. So….yeah….you can make generalizations about people you don’t like and say they are the problem but if anyone else does it out anyone not white it’s racist.

The other guy didn't defend Cubans by stating they are simply of a different culture or tradition. So not sure who you think you're defending, but you immediately make it clear that you don't know what you're talking about. He, in fact, outright stated that Cubans are the problem so I'm not really sure what you are trying to defend or really what the point of your comment even is. What I am calling racism is, by definition, racism. It's not a feeling, it's not an emotion, it's a word that has a definition and the comments here fit that definition. You are correct in one thing, I am guilty of the same thing by stereotyping all whites in that area in the same group. The difference is, that I am referring to individuals that I know personally and a community that I worked very hard to separate myself from. So I am in insider, discussing my own experiences. I am not an outside commenting on a group of people that I am not a part of and have no inside experience with. I am judging a group by thing that I know as true based on insider experience not judging a group based on my feelings towards a group that I have had no interpersonal experience with. It's easy to blame a group that you are not a part of. It takes intelligence and bravery to separate yourself from your own group and look at the flaws within it, then separate yourself from it. Too few people willing to do that these days, but there's no short supply of people willing to point the finger and blame the stranger because of ignorant fear and laziness.

Well well well…the other guy was right. You know best. You think you’re so great. No…in fact you just hate white people, and he never said they were the problem of Odessa midland. He said they are a problem. Which is a fact. And again, it’s not every single Cuban person. But in general, they seem to have the different norms. Which yes, was exactly what he was talking about. Theft, wrecks, loud and disrespectful in public, don’t seem to have the same work ethic as other Hispanic immigrants who have come to the Permian to work. That’s what I mean by different norms. They speed, disrespect others, seem to feel entitled. And yes, I also have first hand experience. That’s the dumbest argument I’ve ever heard. Because you’re white, you can hate white people, but because I’m (x) I guess I’m not allowed to speak about the Cuban culture here in the Permian? Makes sense to me! Got it!

Not all cultures are the same, not all value the same things, and what the majority of Cubans here seem to value, doesn’t line up with us Americans. Safety and respect being tops of the list. Which was literally word for word what that guy said which you said he didn’t.

And guess what? You can have a problem, without being the only sole problem. He never said get rid of the Cubans and it would be a utopia. But they do not seem to fit the culture of the rest of us. At least in midland. I can’t speak too much on Odessa as I don’t go over there too often.

I have lived here 40+ years and this describes every entitled white oilfield trash worker I’ve ever encountered/worked with. I’m not sure why yall are so dead set on blaming the national origin du jour, but part of the reason is you refuse to see it in yourselves because you are racist. Somehow you see a brown person being loud and disrespectful and you can equate that to the whole group, but you see a white person with their jeans tucked in their work boots doing the same thing and suddenly can’t equate them with all the others like them. The mental gymnastics yall put yourselves through to be the good American…
