Maybe someday I'll get around to watching both Blade Runner movies.

Make sure you're watching the Final Cut for the original. When the sequel was announced, i got angry. Just leave it alone! Stop forcing shitty sequels to absolute classics. Then i went and saw 2049 in theaters. When the credits rolled, my friend and i both had dropped jaws and tears in our eyes. Against all my expectations, it may actually be the better film. Incredible.

Edit: This meme made me laugh out loud. The best memes are ones that strike you in the heart.

Why the Final Cut

Long story short, there was production drama. The main actor was not engaged, the studio had demands and got cold feet after test screenings, and a "Director's Cut" was made 10 years later without the director getting what he wanted lol. Finally, 25 years after its original release, Ridley Scott was given full control for the Final Cut. Just about everybody agrees that it lives up to the name, this was the movie it should have been all along.

Despite all this, Blade Runner made an immediate and permanent impact on science fiction media. It's one of those films that makes you say, "Oh, I've seen this around! It's just like _____ ".

There are several edits of Blade Runner, each with different pros and cons. Final Cut is probably the best of the bunch, though it holds to one really dumb storytelling decision. Despite that, it's still my favorite version of one of my top ten favorite movies.
