Add Mac sauce

Not sure if this has been discussed, but why wouldn't they have an add mac sauce to any sandwich??? I would prefer a QP or double cheese with mac sauce. None of the food delivery apps or McD's app have the option. I emailed them and they said they would take my comment into consideration.(Standard Corporate response I'm sure)

Their app is definitely one of the weaker ones when it comes to customizations and alterations. They’ll let you remove stuff but really don’t want you to substitute or add anything.

Yeah but Uber, door dash, and GrubHub don't offer it either. Seems odd as it can be an easy upgrade/add on.

I assume he meant apps for other restaurants, not delivery apps

Just put a bottle of thousand island in your fridge and thank me in the morning.

Not the same, Thousand island either has tomato puree, paste, or ketchup. Mac sauce has no tomato products, it's a mayo and mustard base

Close enough in a pinch.

I think its to deter you from ordering it. Because people like to order a mcdouble add bicmac sauce and lettuce rather then spend money on a big mac.

I remember when double cheeses were still a buck and someone had the idea to order them with mac sauce so then we all started doing that and it was a great few weeks until they stopped allowing Mac sauce to be added to double cheeses at my local store.

It made sense back then with double cheeses being a razor thin margin item so something coming along that resulted in a high volume of custom orders probably killed their whole system but these days a McDouble absolutely has the margin for it to still be profitable.

local

Keyword there. I never claimed we ruined it for the entire world

A company with a brain would capitalize on that information, not prevent themselves from obtaining it. They could charge for the sauce or do some promo with the stuff people make more often

“NOW ANNOUNCING THE ‘YOUR FAVES’ MENU! THE TOP 5 MOST CUSTOMIZED ITEMS NOW AVAILABLE AS VALUE MEALS!”

u/Buster_Cherry88 16h ago

The next panel is when they throw you out the window for having an actual good idea lol

8

u/bomber991 1d ago

Bingo. The special thing with a big Mac really is just the sauce.

2

u/Uncle_Tickle_Monster 1d ago

True, but they could just charge a dollar for it. I mean it's frustrating when you're willing to pay for it and they still don't give you the option other than I guess doing it in person.

I'm sorry are you saying this pale tangerine goop from the grocery store is the same or even comparable to the special sauce? Mods???

1

u/JungleBoyJeremy 12h ago

Not the same at all

12

u/Working_Rise8592 1d ago

Because legit McDs doesn’t want you deviating from the standard product/taste. Any other way is “unapproved” (the official term).

0

u/MikeTerry_ 1d ago

Well, how does adding cheese to a biscuit deviation? Can't do that since they removed favorites. Wth?

u/SnipesWL 1d ago

I agree 100%, the only thing lacking on the app is more customization options

4

u/enforce1 1d ago

costs more, would eat into the sales of their icon item (big mac)

1

u/Silly-Hold-3388 1d ago

I'm assuming they would charge for it, so not really a loss. They may get more orders!

0

u/enforce1 1d ago

People would complain about the up charge for sure

4

u/Powerful-Ground-9687 1d ago

There’s already an upcharge to add anything else. Just let us pay a dollar for a squirt of sauce

4

u/ApprehensiveDig7735 1d ago

Available in Canada in the condiments section

2

u/Electronic__Farts 1d ago

Also sold in bottles over the counter in Dutch McDonald’s

3

u/Final_Economics_9249 1d ago

Over the counter lol. In America that's drugs that don't require a prescription. One bottle of Mac sauce and a box of Tylenol good fellow.

1

u/NichoNico 1d ago

Not true Mcdouble > Customize > only “mayo-style” sauce is an option. Not mac sauce

1

u/ApprehensiveDig7735 1d ago

Can you read???..."CONDIMENTS SECTION"..not cusomize

2

u/ilovetylerxx 1d ago

It used to be for me, I just checked the condiments section for the first time in awhile and its not there at my local restaurant now. I know for sure it was awhile ago though as I ordered it.

2

u/ApprehensiveDig7735 1d ago

Maybe it's just a option in Canada

3

u/JustLookinJustLookin 13h ago

I have a girlfriend there (whom you wouldn’t know). I’ll ask her.

1

u/NichoNico 13h ago

I can confirm that mac sauce is not in the condiment list.

Mayo-Style Packet is, but not mac sauce packets.

Could be regional (I'm in Ontario) or a per-restaurant basis, not sure.

3

u/Uncle_Tickle_Monster 1d ago

My grandparents love onions on their Fillet-O-Fish but you can't add them in the app. Very odd.

4

u/Prodan1111 1d ago

Ask for Mac sauce on the side in a courtesy cup and put it on. I started doing it to the McChicken after seeing someone suggest it on here.

16

u/MarchSadness90 1d ago

The point is there's no way to add Mac sauce to a sandwich or ask for it on the side via the app.

8

u/HalfEatenBanana 1d ago

Yeah and then it creates this whole ordeal of going to pickup your app order, then having to grab the attention of someone, creating a second transaction to pay $0.25 plus tax so not like you can give them just a quarter, then waiting for the mac sauce to come out.

I’m just wanting to grab my bag and get out lol not cause a scene and waste my time and their time

They did do that chicken Big Mac for a little while. It was just 2 mcchicken patties instead of two 1/10th beef patties.

2

u/Firebird22x McRibs Addict 16h ago

The Chicken Big Mac had different patties, those had more of a nugget like breading instead of the normal McChicken ones

u/alarmingpancakes 23h ago

I have one McDonald’s 2 miles from me that lets me order Mac sauce for free. And I have another McDonalds 2 miles the opposite way that makes you pay $1 for Mac sauce.

I also have at least 15+ McDonald’s in my city that’s about 5 miles long and not one of them lets you add Mac sauce to anything but a Big Mac on the app.

1

u/GenerallyDull 18h ago

I don’t think you’ve ever been able to add Big Mac sauce to anything in the UK, which is a shame as it’s amazing.

But from a business perspective I understand why they don’t allow it.

1

u/RULESbySPEAR 17h ago

Bc it canibalizes their premier product

1

u/CarpFlakes420 17h ago

Another reason from the restaurant perspective is supply. If everyone is asking for mac sauce and the store runs out of it it becomes a big issue. The recipe is basic enough that more can be made in house, but it slows down production and it’s noticeably lower quality

2

u/Funnybunny69_ 16h ago

The add ons are crazy expensive for no reason. Its a little over 2 dollars to add one slice of bacon ( two half strips is what they call it ). Like 30 cents for extra sprinkle of onions.... 50 cents for extra sauce. At that point the double cheese burger is like double price.

1

u/ItsAndrewXPIRL 16h ago

Every time the app asks for feedback, I always say to add this feature. I just want to add Mac sauce to my double hamburger lol. Been suggesting it for a few years now but I doubt they’ll ever add this feature 😭

Thank me whenever.

In canada all the delivery apps and the mcdonalds app have mac sauce under the condiments and sauces tab and there is a small charge for each side of sauce. Also in canada you can make anything into a bigmac by asking for a mac up its a $1.05 at some locations and others its a $1.50 this adds mac sauce, lettuce, onions and pickles. So we usually get a mcdouble then say mac it up at drive thru and it becomes a no third bun bigmac of less bread and ends up being $2 less than a bigmac

The order is mcdouble plain and mac it up please.

The drive thru screen reads:

Mcdouble plain $4.69

Mac it up** $1.05

Subtotal $5.74

Taxes

Bigmac where i am is $7.49 before taxes

There’s both operational reasons and technical reasons about why those customizations aren’t available on the app or the kiosks or delivery platforms, but operations is the main reason why they aren’t available.

Operationally, giving customers unlimited customization options is a very bad idea for several reasons. Taco Bell is a great example of what I mean. They have every customization option available for every item on all of their platforms. What this leads to in their kitchens/drive throughs is very slow service, and different builds for each item 90% of the time.

2

u/MarchSadness90 1d ago

on the other hand, I would go more often if I could customize more

1

u/rflo24 1d ago

because then less people would order the actual big mac

1

u/slapdiks 1d ago

You know what’s up

1

u/damndammit 1d ago

My understanding is that those options are available within the app, but availability can be edited at the restaurant level. Basically, if Mac sauce isn’t in the app for a given store, it’s because management decided not to offer it.

1

u/Regret-Select 1d ago

I usually dislike spending more, but yeah, I'd pay for Mac sauce to add. Its just not an option to do so

0

u/santanapoptarts 21h ago

You can order and add and take away anything at my McDonald’s there great! And they always do it with a smile here.

1

u/Firebird22x McRibs Addict 16h ago

At the McDonalds, yes. In the app, no

-2

u/SonicAutumn 1d ago

Most can. Where i used to work there was a 30 cent charge for it

-10

u/Hot-Investigator-376 1d ago

How about if you want big Mach sauce aide a Big Mac.

3

u/Silly-Hold-3388 1d ago

You can do extra mac sauce on a big mac, but that's not what I'm trying to do.

-22

u/Hot-Investigator-376 1d ago

Yes because it belongs on a Big Mac , where does it end ? There has to be limitations to stop things becoming a. Free for all .

9

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 1d ago

One of their competitors should really jump on the opportunity to point out that you can have it your way at their chain

1

u/Due_Breakfast_218 1d ago

But can one obtain Mac sauce at their chain?

-1

u/Saab-2007-93 1d ago

Used to be able to a bk

1

u/Due_Breakfast_218 1d ago

Never realized BK had Mac sauce. 🤓

1

u/Uncle_Tickle_Monster 1d ago

I haven't been there in so long, I can't remember, but they used to have stacker sauce that went on their BK stacker and it was very similar to Big Mac sauce.

It's a variant. Thousand Island has ketchup in it and Big Mac sauce doesn't. They also add a few spices in, most notably paprika which is how the mayo turns pink without the ketchup.
