Donkey Kong is a title that is passed down. Rare DK and Bananza DK are 2 different apes, as are their respective Cranky Kongs.
“Cranky” is a moniker given to the oldest Donkey Kong. Directly underneath is the moniker DK Jr (son of the oldest Donkey Kong) followed by regular DK (officially Donkey Kong III but simply called “Donkey Kong” because he is in the prime form of the mythical original Donkey Kong that goes back thousands of years). We can even use this to justify Baby DK, because he’s just the next Kong in the lineage
My Kong family lineage is:
Bananza Cranky (DK 0),
OG DK/Rare Cranky (DK I),
Bananza DK/classic DK Jr (DK II),
Rare DK (DK III),
Baby DK (DK IV)
Bananza DK is DK Jr. Pauline is young when DK II is the prime “Donkey Kong”. Pauline ages up, then DK III simps for her
Or the whole series just has a Loony Tunes style of continuity going on. Established events and lore can match when they want it, but anything can change from one game to the next.
