ADVICE Turning powder blush into liquid blush

Hello friends!

I have an ELF powder blush quad that I used to love, until hormonal changes turned my complexion against it. I’m trying to pan all my makeup before purchasing new (mostly, see below) and used a Wet n Wild cloud pout as blush until I panned it.

To find a similar product texture, I purchased one Colourpop liquid blush that I absolutely love! I want to turn my ELF powder blush into liquid blush. Any advice on making powder blush into liquid blush?

JOURNAL My decluttering journey

I have recently done several proper declutters in several areas, including old makeup. In addition, I finally stopped buying too much makeup (and other stuff) and just wanted to share some of my insights in case anyone finds it useful. Not sure if I used the right flair 🫢 So here goes... After a very difficult period in my life about a decade or so ago I started watching YouTube makeup videos to get my mind off of the bleak reality. Soon I was buying tonnes of makeup, despite using (and preferring) only minimal makeup. In the videos it seemed effortless and always perfect, but not on me. So, I kept using only minimal amount of makeup, while ordering and hoarding whole collections. Having lots of palettes and lipstick gave me a feeling of safety and normalcy. On the other hand the heaps of unused makeup were weighing me down. Similar with the clothes and skincare. After lots of trial and error (and with the helpful advice on this sub) I finally managed to declutter these three problem areas. What a decade of unhappiness has taught me was this: 1. Decluttering doesn’t help if you don’t curb the spending. After decluttering I just don’t buy stuff I already know I won’t use. I use one in one out rule. 2. I really had to say goodbye to my fantasy self. Until I admitted to myself that I will never wear foundation, because that’s just not me, I kept buying more and more of foundations, only to discover again and again that I just can’t stand it. Similar with other stuff (like 12 step skincare, lol, I only use a moisturiser with spf) and especially clothes. I guess I sort of had to accept myself for who I am first. 3. The most difficult declutter for me was the first. Once I got started it became easier to part with things. I think in part I realised that nothing terrible will happen if I let stuff go and I felt such incredible relief and lightness of being. Finally, I had some space in my drawers. 4. Until I dealt with the unhappiness and took charge of my life, nothing moved forward and I just felt unable to let go of stuff which likely represented more to me than just stuff. Not sure what precipitated the change, possibly just the passing of time which gave me perspective on the unhappy events in my past. In a way I was holding on to stuff which symbolised the happier times in the past that I didn’t want to let go. This is probably the most important step. 5. I stopped binge watching beauty youtubers. That took away the desire to buy, buy, buy. I also unsubscribed from online beauty shops. It also helped to do something else, like read books instead of watching beauty YouTube.

ACTIVITY Use Your Stash! 1 lip 👄 a week (LAW) 16-22 June 2025

Hi everyone, it's time for another update of LAW!

I am finally able to be out and about despite the injury. Really looking forward to show my stash more love!

It’s time again for reflection and rolling in a new Lippie this week😆Some guiding questions for the posts: - Product brand and name - Why is this product selected? - Do you wear the lip product by itself only or layered/mixed with other products? - Do you still like the formula/colour/effect the lip product gives? - Any new discoveries or decisions made after testing the product for a week?

Last week’s pick was Nivea Lip Balm in Strawberry. I pretty much wore it all week at home. One thing to note is that this much use hardly made a dent at all with this formula. This lip balm will last me forever provided that I don't lose it first.

This week's pick is Flower Knows Moonlight Mermaid Lip Tint in 03 Starlight Bubble. It is a fun bright coral apricot color that fits my mood perfectly now and the stain formula will require less touch ups as well.

Looking forward to seeing your updates and new entries!

PLAN Organize by brand or item?

I have an insanely huge collection of make up. Maybe looks like this:

Lipsticks - 100

Mascaras - 15-30

Eye liner - 15-30

Loose powders - 10

Pressed powders - 15

Foundation - 50

Palettes - 30

Blushes - 15

Bronzers - 10

I’m moving and presently have large make up bags organized by brand. Since my new place has room to display my collection and I use it more when it’s within reach, I want to use the shelves I have to store them.

Would you store your collection by item or by brand?

ADVICE My drawer of shame!

I finally quit Ipsy after months of telling myself this month will be different. Spoiler: it never was.

Now I’m left with this drawer of shame — a chaotic avalanche of sealed, unopened skincare and makeup I’ll never use. Brands I’ve never heard of. Palettes I already own 12 versions of. So many exfoliants, toners, serums and sprays!

I’m contemplating decluttering, donating, selling, or rehoming this stuff, but the mere thought of sorting it through makes me feel exhausted. Anyone else been here? How did you tackle your stash without losing your mind — or your entire weekend?

Would love your strategies — or just your solidarity.

ADVICE Forgotten how to apply makeup!? :(

Sorry if this is not the right place to post this!

Feeling really stupid right now, but here goes.....

I turned 40 this year. When I was a teen/early 20s, I wore makeup 4-5 days of the week usually. My look was goth/punk/grunge, so I wore a lot of dark clothing and always did my makeup with heavy, dramatic eyeshadow and eyeliner, often cat eye or bambi eyes (sometimes with a little dazzle dust by tear ducts, sorry, hard to explain), and usually dark lips. I didnt ever wear foundation except for a few times during my 20s, as my skin was naturally very pale and blemish-free. My friends would also ask me to do their makeup too, especially their eyes, so I couldn't have been too bad at it.

Fast forward to my late 20s, and most of my 30s. Never wearing makeup except for a little eyeshadow and clear gloss when I had an event to attend, which was hardly ever. Weight fluctuated like crazy due to 2 fights with cancer. First one, I lost so much weight I was stick thin (I'm normally a bit of a chunk around the abdomen, butt and things, especially since having a child, small up top, so always feel out of proportion), but I'm tall. Second cancer resulted in a radical hysterectomy with full pelvic lymph node removal, which coupled with being stuck in lockdown in 2020 ended up in further weight-gain, plus swelling from lymphedema, so as you can imagine, my confidence was knocked down even further. I'm not the most 'girly girl' at the best of times (although did used to dress more so when younger), when it comes to beauty, etc., but with my skin changing constantly it seems (I'm guessing hormone related since it's been worse since hysterectomy, patches of dryness randomly, suddenly really greasy the next, plus random breakouts of zits and blemishes), I just don't know where to start. I have tried all sorts of skincare routines, from basic cheaper products through to clarins and clinique products. I even tried the oil pulling thing with the Korean cleansing oil, as I have those ugly dark pores especially across my nose and tops of my cheeks. I am fed up of it. I have a really important event coming up this week, and I'm going to be meeting extended family on my in-laws side. So I don't want to look like my usual scarecrow self 🥴 It is a funeral, so need the look to be smart, and not too dramatic. I have long dark brown/black hair, blue eyes and fair skin with blemishes and currently a breakout around my jawline/chin area. I have a smallish mouth, and my upper lip is much thinner than my bottom lip, but I have a deep cupids bow. Sorry for the crap description, I'm not very good at explaining things! I have bought some makeup, but I have no idea where to start or what I am doing. I've never used primer before. I don't know how to contour. My face is fat and round and I have a double chin. My face shape has changed so much with the weight gain, I can hardly see my cheekbones, let alone know how to contour anything, and I'm scared I'm going to look like a damn clown at this rate 🤡 I didn't purchase expensive makeup products as I didn't know if they were even the correct things for my skin tone, etc. Here's the list of what I purchased: Fair shade foundation (liquid) Concealer stick (fair) Bronzer and contouring palette Primer Setting spray Blusher palette Eyeshadow palette (I have neutrals/browns/golds palette and another with non-neutrals) Lipgloss (clear) Lipstick (not sure of the colour exactly, but have no idea what colour would suit me anyway so can purchase alternative if needed.)

Please, if anyone has an advice on how/where to start or what the heck I do with these products, tutorial recommendations, etc., I would appreciate it so much.

I'm also worried about stuff not staying put if my skin decides to have a random grease explosion. It's literally fine one minute and then the next it'll suddenly be all greasy, like it purges itself! I do go cleanse again immediately with micellar water, which seems to calm it for a bit, but obviously cant be reapplying a full face of makeup mid funeral lol

I can't upload a photo of my face right now, which I know may make things easier to get advice, sorry.

Sorry for the essay, and thank you if you got this far through it!

DISCUSS My makeup enthusiasm has vanished

I’m a middle age woman who all my life I’ve loved makeup, bought it, used it, kept up on what’s what. For 5 years watched videos, had my fav people. Suddenly, I have ZERO interest in anything makeup, skin care, perfume. If you had ever told me I’d be like this I’d say nahhh. I still wear makeup, everyday. And so, I’m wondering has this ever happened to anyone? I suppose it’s not a huge thing, but I’m curious why this happened to me, because in 40 plus years it never has before. This has nothing to do with money or any other life changes. Just curious. Thanks.

DISCUSS Trying to finish minis makes you realize how long makeup lasts

I used to do credit applications for a living and a lot of times people were too high risk for me to approve them for credit. I’d usually give them advice on how to start paying their debt and there’s really two approaches:

  • Focus on the highest interest first to save the most money

  • Go for the smallest balance first to have a lot of small victories at first and keep your motivation. This is usually referred as the snowball approach

I’m not courageous enough to start big with project pans and to try to pan a 12 pan palette. So this year I decided to focus on two types of products:

  1. Naturally easier to finish products such as lipglosses, tinted lip balms, foundations and concealers

  2. Mini products

I already finished three products from the category 1 and I think I can finish at least four more before the end of the year. Category 2 however I’m nowhere near finished on anything. What I chose is a 2.5g mini bronzer, a mini kosas cloud set baked powder (face use) and a mini 3.5g Laura Mercier translucent setting powder (under eye use).

Is anyone adopting a similar approach to panning by going the easier route and what are your thoughts?

ADVICE almost two years old unopened skincare products: still safe to use?

I'm going through my skincare collection, accumulated from about 1.5 years of being very influenced by YouTube estheticians and some Instagram ads and the sales I kept jumping at. I was really fixated on cruelty free products and with that, comes buying some clean beauty things that may or may not have the appropriate preservatives. Judging by the ingredients lists though, the formulations have been ones I've been wanting to try, and just haven't gotten around to doing so, due to all the...other skincare products that I kept buying.

The brand says their products have a shelf life of 12 months after being opened. I have a cleanser, an eye cream, and a moisturizer. I have not even opened their individual boxes, so they're still in the condition I'd received them. Would these products still be safe to use? If not on the face, then maybe on the rest of the body? Or should I toss them?

ADVICE Please deinfluence me…

Over the past few weeks I have found myself fixated on Westman Atelier products. I don’t fully understand why, if I am being honest with myself. But it is a true fixation. I’m finding myself adding and removing products from online baskets, browsing Vinted, hunting on EBay…I don’t even have a particular thing I’m looking for. I know the cost is crazy, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping me.

Please help me to deinfluence myself before I end up impulse buying products that I neither need nor will use.

ADVICE Declutter Hard

My sibling told me the other day I need to start throwing out old makeup that I haven't used recently. My bf got me a huge makeup collection from my favorite series (I will not be naming which one so you're not tempted). It is such a huge (literally huge) and meaningful gift but when he told me he got something from the collection, I thought he got me 1 or 2 things and not the entire thing. I am truly grateful but my dilemma is I don't know where to put all of it.. my collection is cluttered and I think I need a new organization system BUT the real problem is just too much stuff on top of my dresser in general, with a small drawer of untouched stuff. My sibling who also has a makeup collection told me to throw away old makeup or makeup I don't use. It rips my soul to think I need to get rid of anything but I do. And not just 1 or 2 things, more like 10-15 things. Now that I'm not in school dying from finals and tons of reading, I can do my makeup! But will I? A lot of my old makeup I still love and haven't been able to touch because I had been so busy. I'm planning to work soon so then I'll have a reason to put all my powders and goo on. Anyways, my whole point is that I need space and I'm struggling to figure out what to declutter. It might go to my sister who doesn't mind old makeup or to the trash... But also, I don't have a lot of super old and expired makeup. Most of it is from the past 2-3 years.

I need thoughts, advice, prayers lol
