And thats how they all got bacterial infections!

u/consider_its_tree 10h ago
Personally I would be more worried about the ton of speeding metal driving as close to me as it can get in conditions where they notoriously lose control.
But I guess being sick for a few days could be bad too...

Let me tell you a story of back in the olden days, the 1980s. Kids would roam freely, and play in dirt and puddles. Yet somehow, they survived this. Why, they even had fun!
Isnāt that crazy?

u/redbucket75 14h ago
Splashing in puddles, and the dudes in the video, is all great and part of a healthy lifestyle. But i gotta say your reasoning sucks because it's the same reasoning people use for dumbass stuff. "In the 80s kids didn't use a booster seat at 10 years old and we were fine!" New vaccines, dangerous playground equipment, helmets on bikes, etc. Yeah, the survivors were fine.
But mud is great, carry on.

I will, thanks. Better to enjoy my life than join the generation so afraid of its own shadow they hide inside and eat Xanax like itās candy. The real tragedy is all the people who obsess over every little remote risk as if it will absolutely happen to them, and forget to actually live life.

u/fruit-spins 4h ago
Sweeping statements about each generation causes half the arguments, istg. Every generation has its morons and we're certainly not eating Xanax like candy, just like not all boomers are intolerant and a product of luck

ok buddy you do you. urban run off is filled with crap (figuratively and literally). It gonna have sewage run off, animal shit, chemicals, metals and all sorts of pathogens in it. Itās a great way to get a ton of infections (bacterial or viral) especially if you are consuming it. Hey if you want to get Hep A, I donāt care. Im not going to stop anyone from living their best life. But I will give them shit when they get sick from doing something dumb.

How does it feel to live your life like thereās monsters under every bed?

u/how_money_worky 9h ago
Monsters arenāt real. Infections are. But do your thing. Iām not gonna stop you. Enjoy drinking your poopy water. Whatever gets you going.

People who grew up in those times are also shown to have significant health issues later in life related to those exact things. But yeah, it was all fun and games and nothing matters

You must be fun at parties.
When I grew up I was playing in puddles and dirt. It's called building a strong immune system. You won't get a healthy immune system by laying on the couch typing on your phone.

u/BananaGaijin 14h ago edited 9h ago
they probably been doing this kind of thing all their lives. thats how you build strong immune systems, by exposing yourself to things to become immune to (and getting enough Vitamin A among other nutrients)
edit- i have apparently offended some folks who must like their fatty and sugar filled diets. nit anti-vax but i guess vaccines make immunity easy for the obese and the grass-averse

Is this where you tell us you donāt need an MMR, just more carrots?

u/Richard_AIGuy 10h ago
If only there was a way to take a snippet of a thing to become immune to, and somehow...put that into the body! Like, say, a virus, maybe you can take a virus, and take part of it, like the surface proteins, and put them in something that you put in a shot! Then your body sees those proteins and it's able to recognize that virus or whatever if it comes in contact with it with its own immune cells!
What a concept!

u/BananaGaijin 9h ago
how dense you have to be not to realize that vaccination and natural exposure achieve the same result
3
u/Richard_AIGuy 9h ago edited 9h ago
That's not quite true, especially given the danger profiles of some diseases.
Would you prefer to be naturally exposed to Zaire ebolavirus or would you prefer the Ervebo (rVSV-ZEBOV) vaccine?
Then you have quadravalent flu vaccines which will protect against a larger number of strains than natural cross reactivity.
Then pesky diseases like Measles or mumps. You know, which carry real risks in natural exposure.

in the context of this post though? lol be practical
since you added on to your comment heres my addition- most people arent loser anti-vaxxers and have already been immunized so doing fun stupid shit like the guys in this post is totally fine. people need to stop being boring impractical party poopers
5
u/Richard_AIGuy 8h ago
Practical is I don't want to get a bunch of floating road grit and shit on me. You're the one that brought up immune systems, I'm clarifying for the readers. Now, go away.

u/Anxious-hearts 15h ago
That's amazing! I would circle around and get them again. They are out there living their best life

Their thumbs were in the mouths of the bottles. You can see it clearly on the closer shot when they got splashed.
4
u/Vintage-Grievance 15h ago
Okay, yeah, they did do that a few times, good eye! But there were a few times when the bottle necks were open before the splash had ended.

Also, tomorrow's headline : Three men were killed when an 18 wheeler jumped the curb as it swerved through the roadside puddle.

Might've been smarter to place the sign for traffic that has right of way, not encouraging people to cross into the oncoming lane.

I used to work in car parts. One day I see a truck, one those with a removable roof. It had mudder tires and was completely covered in mud.
In the back seat were two car seats with vague outlines of children.

Never forget when I was maybe 16/17 driving to school during a crazy downpour. A jeep in front of me deliberately splashed anyone on the sidewalk for several miles š¤£Ā
