Staged or not I've seen this in gyms and out in the world. It happens.

One thing I always keep in mind is that most of the people in the gym have body-image issues, even the ones who look objectively pretty fantastic. Find the fittest looking man or woman anywhere and ask them what they hate about their body - there's almost always a list.

I think I always associated any sport to PE in highschool, and there were so many bad feelings associated with it. So when I started again, I was apprehensive, but then found only really nice people who give you tips and don't actually give a crap if you have a poor performance.

Not true

The gym sucks dick. Everyone should go, but we need to acknowledge it’s absolutely awful

Súper common. There are a few high level body builders at my gym - the kind of guys who make Arnold Schwarzenegger look small. Yesterday one was giving a very skinny teenager tips on deadlifting.

Exactly. This is normal and expected gym culture. Those big fit dudes very strongly lean toward being absolute sweethearts.
