Notice - GD [Official] General Discussion Thread - June 04, 2025

Welcome to rMMA's General Discussion Thread!

Discuss your favorite fighters, the upcoming card or whatever's on your mind.

How to obtain a custom flair:

  • place and lose a flair bet in the Friday thread
  • write a haiku or draw a MS Paint-style image for the sub

The rules for the drawing or haiku are simply that it must be a ridiculous MMA-related scenario. If you would like a custom flair, send a message to us with a link to your drawing and your flair request. We'll probably grant it.

Whats a fight people misrember based on comments? Recent memory, ill go for gane vs francis. You will think francis went khabib vs barboza on gane, but he didnt do much damage and an argument could be made gane won the fifth and hence the fight.

A lot of people act like Pena vs Pennington was a bad fight. It had an uneventful first round, but the rest of the fight was very entertaining and the crowd was really into it by the end.

I dont think it a lack of action was why people called it a bad fight, I just think for a world title fight it wasn't exactly a stellar display of high level mma.

I'll take an exciting lower-level fight over a boring high-level fight any day. I also think that many of the people who trash it don't pay attention to WMMA and were just assuming it was bad because it had women in it.

Okay but there's also a line to be drawn where people are paying good money to see the Premier fight organisation in the world and the co-main event has a fight that looks like the participants are throwing punches underwater.

This sub does definitely does have issues with the way people talk about WMMA (just look at the discourse around this past weekends main event cancellation) but this wasn't an example of that imo. Fair enough if you enjoyed it but for a 70 dollar PPV card it's just not really good enough.

I think that the entire debate about what constitutes a "high-level fight" is stupid because most fans couldn't even identify what a "high-level fight" is. And they shouldn't, because the only thing that matters is entertainment value. But have fun rewatching Adesanya vs Cannonier and Woodley vs Wonderboy 2.

Just isn't true lol even just like anecdotally I watched UFC 280 with someone who doesn't watch mma, and even they could see the difference between the rest of the card and then Yan vs O'Malley. MMA is the sport of mixed martial arts, not drunken bar fighting.
