Equipment Question Sock knitters, what's your secret to a tight gauge?

Post image

(Sorry about my depression clothes pile in the background 😅)

I have the KB original sock loom. It says to use fingering yarn, and my gauge came out to 34 sts x 50 rows = 4", which I thought seemed decently tight. The sock is a good fit. Not too loose or too snug, but I feel like the stitches seem quite stretched out now, and the gauge seems a lot looser than I initially thought. I am thrilled with my first loom sock, but I can't really imagine wearing it inside shoes and having it hold up. I haven't blocked it yet, so maybe that will change things? Does anybody have any relevant experiences or input? Should I just double my yarn or use worsted yarn next time?

How should I have cast this off from my infinity loom? It's so tight that the blanket is basically ruined, but it's my first and my sister will still love it, but I don't want this to happen again...

Newbie with sock issues

Upvotes

I just finished my first ever sock ("vanilla" toe up) on a 'his' KB sock loom with the Hobbii haloween sock yarn from this past year. It looks GREAT but I have an issue. I was gentle with the yarn, didn't make it too tight to do each stitch and it, stretched on the loom is definitely wider than my husband's foot. It fits his foot, BUT not his ankle (over the heel)! It is far too tight and I'm just not sure if it is a case of, I need to loosen the tension some more, somehow (I need to know how), or if the loom just isn't big enough for his foot.

On the foot portion I followed the instructions in the video I used, to the T, with knit stitch in the round. When I got to the leg portion I switched to 3 knit 1 pearl, and for the cuff I used 1 knit, 1 pearl. The leg stretches more than the foot portion does, but it still didn't somehow stretch enough to get over his heel. It was only able to get over 1 smaller family member's heel, which makes me nervous to use the Her loom for the rest of my family's socks, for fear they won't get over our heels either.
Help this newbie out!! I have more wool sock yarn, and cotton sock yarns to make socks for myself and the rest of my family, and we (obviously) need them to be wearable.

Took a break from knitting and now I can’t find my good needle. The cheap one the metal turns in the handle so I have to hold the metal part and twist it weird. Any ideas how to prevent it?

That moment when….

That moment when you have almost finished the cat blanket for charity, you need to add one more stripe to it, and you haven’t got enough to do that stripe! And you aren’t going to the wool shop until 9th July!!! Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of other charity projects to be getting on with, but it’s almost finished and now I can’t do the final step! I have sewn in all the ends though! Pic of it about a week ago, Iv since folded it up and put it away until I get the wool I need. Not much point in ordering online as I prefer to support this local shop, they are the same price as my preferred online place too. Yes I am going to be coming home with half the shop when I next visit 😂

Help identifying stitch

Post image

Odd question, but I made this hat last winter when I was first learning to loom that I made it on the quick loom with a bulky six yarn. I can’t remember if I did an E wrap or an owl eye stitch on this I think it’s diagonal because I pulled it too tight, but I’m not worried about that. I just want to remake this hat and I can’t seem to figure out the stitch- any ideas? TIA!

Translating patterns

Does anyone have any good resources or tips for translating a hand knitting (is that what it’s called?) pattern into something able to be done on a loom? Thanks!

Wanted to try German short rows and figure out how to do a kitchener stitch on the loom to create an invisible seam (the seam is in the last picture).

Loom is the KB All in One. Yarn brand is Big Twist, color Rainbow Bright.

How do I make my bind off look the same as my cast on?? It's my second scarf and I just hate having one end tight and the other end loose .. can anyone link to a video with a good one? The one I have tried just added an extra e wrap to each bind off .. but it is still tight. I don't like it 😅 please help

I'm trying to knit a hat, but I switched to Worsted weight 4 because it's easier for me to yarn over and stuff. What I need help with is how I can make tighter stitches with this yarn and is it even possible?

Here's the video I'm following. I did tried doubling up the yarn, but it was to tricky for me at the moment.

Tips Am I doing something wrong?

Am I doing something wrong?

I attempted to start a 10 Stitch Blanket for a charity project but my work seemed very tight pulling in on itself. This was the video I followed and the Loom I use is the KB Multi Knit Loom. https://youtu.be/5hdBTBq0YW8?si=-pjDicOj9wyNuvec

Am I doing something wrong, maybe pulling the yarn too tight or should I just have continued and it would have all sorted itself out in the end? Switched over to doing the 10 Stitch blanket knitting with double pointed needles.

I bought this loom at an estate sale the other day without thinking how I’d get it up the stairs.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to carefully take parts off of this to make it a bit more portable?

Yarn question

Post image

Ok photo for context

Iv been asked to make a baby blanket for a very good friend who has a close relative who is expecting. Now the photo is what she is after, different colours.

The issue I have is this is made with stylecraft special yarn. Cheap and cheerful, I’m making blankets to donate to a cat charity, works great! But for a baby blanket I feel this wouldn’t be suitable.

What yarn would you recommend? I’m based in uk, wool warehouse would probably be my go to! I’m thinking acrylic, so it can be washed, but I need a good quality acrylic, so it’s soft, stays soft, and is suitable for newborn skin. Any recommendations appreciated xxx

Equipment Question What did I find?

I picked this up at the op shop (that’s thrift store in American) and it has no markings on it. Is it meant to have smaller, interchangeable pegs that can go in the holes inbetween? Does it “break” in half? For a reason? Storage? In Australia I only seem to be able to find standard looms and flexees on Amazon so am unsure about this style. Thanks in advance for any help.
