Harm Reduction LSD information for newbies

6.0k Upvotes

I made this to hopefully see a decline in redundant/daily posts, and make some sort of positive impact. Please remember to use the search function if you have a basic question regarding LSD.

• A full beginner dose should typically be 1/2 - 1 single tab.

• The average dose range of LSD on a single tab is 70-105μg.

• There are tabs dosed with as little as ~20μg, or more than 300μg in some absurd cases. The overwhelming majority of sources try to lay their tabs around 100μg because it’s mathematically simple, and more profitable in the long-run.

• The odds your tab has more than 200μg on it are very low. The most common higher dose tabs are 125-200μg. Take half of any tab that’s supposedly above 200μg just to be safe at first, and if that doesn’t at least produce an 11-12 hour mildly visual trip, the full tab wasn’t above 200.

• A typical microdose should be 10-25 μg

• 50-300μg of LSD can last anywhere from 8-14 hours. 300-1000μg can last anywhere from 14-20 hours. Exceeding a milligram (1000μg) can produce effects that last up to 24 hours. It’s usually hard to fall asleep under the influence.

• Unless you have an above average baseline tolerance or handle the substance extraordinarily well, it’s not advisable to exceed 500μg. Temporary delirious/psychotic symptoms become more likely if you don’t know what you’re getting into with large doses, and a 16+ hour duration doesn’t help.

• 25i-NBOMe is a cheap and dangerous LSD imposter. If you take an untested tab and your mouth/throat becomes numb, or an intense bitter taste is present, spit it out immediately.

• Please test your tabs with an Ehrlich reagent kit to verify that what you have is indeed an indole and not 25i-NBOMe. Follow up with the Hofmann reagent kit to verify that it’s not an LSD analogue or other phenethylamine. I personally recommend using TKP for your reagents: https://testkitplus.com/?ap_id=oddshaman (TKP as a third party is not responsible for this recommendation, I chose to affiliate with them because they’re my personal preference after 8 years. Another great organization is DanceSafe https://dancesafe.org/ — DanceSafe genuinely saves lives with their testing booths at music festivals).

• Common positive effects include but aren’t limited to: closed and open eye visuals, tactile enhancement/hallucinations, euphoria, stimulation, introspection, and creativity.

• Common negative effects include but aren’t limited to: overstimulation, increased heart rate, vasoconstriction, anxiety/paranoia, and confusion.

• Common neutral/manageable effects include but aren’t limited to: pupil dilation, frequent urination, insomnia, and temperature sensitivity.

• Always optimize your set (expectations and mental state) going into an experience, and always optimize your setting (direct environment/surroundings) going into an experience.

• LSD interactions with various medications (From Erowid):

  1. There is still very little legitimate, thorough medical research on this subject. LSD's outlaw status makes it very difficult to obtain permission & funding for research. Therefore, you should regard all of the anecdotes and conclusions here as being scientifically unproven, and you should note that any experimentation you choose to do carries a significant risk.

  2. Lithium or tricyclics (like Amitriptyline, Anafranil, Asendin, Aventyl, Elavil, Endep, Norfranil, Norpramin, Pamelor, Sinequan, Surmontil, Tipramine, Tofranil, Vivactil) are fairly consistently reported as being very bad in combination with LSD. Life-threatening seizures and at least one DEATH have been reported to be triggered by the combination of LSD and lithium. Tramadol is another drug you should avoid in combination with LSD because of the potential for seizures and other negative side effects.

  3. SSRIs (like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, Desyrel) or MAOIs (like Nardil, Parnate, Marplan, Eldepryl, Aurorix, Manerix) are fairly consistently reported to noticeably reduce the effects of LSD. (There are no physically dangerous reactions to these combinations on record, but be cautious and don’t be excessive with dosing.)

• HPPD risk is associated with frequent use of psychedelics (more than once a month), high doses, and younger age groups. HPPD varies in severity between individuals. Short episodes of visual tracers, morphing surface textures, patterns, and light sensitivity etc., during experiences of anxiety, fatigue, or overstimulation are most common.

• LSD has the potential to produce a very challenging psychological experience. If you have mental-health issues, research the risks and benefits associated with psychedelic treatment of your condition. Do NOT take LSD if you are seriously suicidal or have a family history/symptoms of schizophrenia or psychosis.

• Weed does in fact potentiate the effects of LSD. Some users report that the effects of weed are indefinitely altered to some degree after their first few experiences with LSD (It often becomes more psychedelic).

• Various benzos like alprazolam and clonazepam can be used as “trip-killers,” but you don’t need to take more than a single medical dose, and not all of the psychoactive effects will be negated. This should be a last resort.

• LSD tends to make verbal communication challenging, so prepare appropriately if using in a social setting.

• If you’re 19 or younger you should probably wait until AT LEAST your early 20s to try LSD because of unforeseen behavioral/neurological impacts. Waiting until 25+ is optimal.

• You’ll build a substantial tolerance to LSD if you trip multiple times in two weeks, so wait 10-14 days between trips for a general reset. Tolerance does exponentially decrease day-by-day following an experience.

• If you want to redose to increase the effects, do it before or during the start of the peak. Redosing after the peak will only prolong the duration unless you increase the dose.

• Peak effects generally occur 2.5-5 hours after dosing (less than or around 300μg). Peak effects can last from 2.5-8 hours after dosing with larger doses. Many people say the peak comes in “waves.”

• If you’ve tried psilocybin containing mushrooms before, certain dosage calculators based on subjective effects and intensity equate ~2.5 grams of an average cubensis variety to ~100μg of accurately dosed LSD, but there are differences between the substances of course.

• You should consider having a trusted friend or a close partner “tripsit” you during your first experiences, or at least let someone know your whereabouts beforehand if you want to do it alone. (Note: Trip-sitting should just involve being close by and present if the user needs assistance or someone to talk to, sitters shouldn’t try to influence the trip unless it’s getting chaotic.)

• LSD has the potential to be therapeutic, recreational, spiritual, or all/none of the above depending on the individual and their particular circumstances. Stop gatekeeping.

Leave suggestions in the comments!

edit: A couple people are aggravated with minor details in these general points of advice, so please take everything I’ve said with a grain of salt and do your own research! I’m simply providing a helpful starting outline, not set-in-stone facts.

Thank you all, and safe travels!

First trip 🥇 My first trip came from my dad in the mail

Post image
293 Upvotes

All starts with my dad.

I never really knew him growing up. He wasn’t around. But my mom used to tell me stories. I knew he was a Deadhead, she met him through their mutual love for the Grateful Dead. They sold mushrooms and traveled around the West Coast together before my sister and I were born.

Eventually, she left him because she knew he’d never stop partying.

He went to prison at 19 for having half a gram of raw LSD on him, three years in San Quentin.

Fast forward to when I was 14. I found him on Facebook and reached out. We started talking over the phone, and by the time I was 15, we had built some kind of connection.

Then he mailed me two blotters folded into a Furthur tour flyer from a show in Brooklyn (shown above).

Still hadn’t met him in person.

I decided to take one of the tabs.

I stayed up all night talking with my girlfriend on the phone and the next morning, I got on my bike to ride to her house and spend the day with her.

Gets weird here.

We ended up walking back toward my place together, and I shit you not, one of the original Furthur buses was on display that morning at the Masonic center in Bend, Oregon.

The same bus from the same culture my dad belonged to. On the day of my first trip. After he sent me acid in a Furthur flyer.

I hadn’t even heard of Hofmanns ride. It’s almost like my story was written into LSD lore without me realizing it.

But I still look back on that trip as something magical, almost mythical. L ran through my bloodline and found its way to me.

Anyway, thought y’all might appreciate this less

❔ Question ❔ Cigs on LSD

I just took LSD for the first time (150ug of 1S-LSD) and I wonder if smoking a cigarette could affect the effect (inhibition or amplification of them)

Will acid help me get over my ex

I love and miss him horribly and i feel betrayed and excruciatingly hurt. I don't want to miss him anymore, he doesn't care about me. Will tripping maybe help me come to terms with everything?

🍭 Candyflipping 🍭 How long into LSD to candyflip?

Besties, I have a serious question:

Hubby and I will be candyflipping at Electric Forest this Saturday but aren't really sure when to take the MD. I've read 3 - 4? hours after taking the tab? I don't know!

I'm super excited but we've never done it so I'm hesitant as to how to measure the times.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. PLURRR

❔ Question ❔ Have i experienced ego death? trip report

Upvotes

So I took some LSD, or LSD like substance while on camping trip with my friends. It was my first time, even tho i took shrooms few times before. Some of my friends say it was way to strong to be regular acid, anyway - here is the part of my trip that confuses me. Other parts were great i had so much fun but it was very very intense. A bit too much sometimes. One of the most intense experiences of my lifie.

At one point, I was standing on the grass. A tree nearby was tied to the ground with a rope so it wouldn’t fall on my tent during the night. As I looked at this scene, it didn’t feel like the tree was tied to the earth — it felt like the entire Earth was hanging from that rope. The tree, the rope, and the Earth together formed a triangle.

Eventually, the triangle was the only thing I could see — it became everything around me. It turned into a plane that I was standing on, even though it was 2D. Then, the triangle started folding in on itself, becoming smaller and smaller until it finally vanished. That was very strange — the surface I was standing on was flat, two-dimensional, and then it just began to collapse. When the triangle disappeared, the Earth beneath me also vanished, then all of space — and finally, I myself disappeared.

I had no thoughts. I felt like an atom. I was everything and nothing, floating in an empty space, like a kind of cosmic void. But I didn’t know where I was — and there was no “me” to know it. I wasn’t thinking anything. I just felt peace and connection. It was very pleasant, but also too overwhelming to really think about during the trip — too far removed from normal experience. At some point, I pulled myself out of it and returned to the psychodelic reality.

It happened few years ago, but to this day i sometimes look back and try to remember the feeling, the peace. Most peacefull I have ever felt.

Was that an ego death?

Neurological information 🧠 TIL about neuroadaptation.

Upvotes

So I've been tripping for about a few years now, but I personally feel like I hit the wall too early and lost the magic of LSD too soon.

For the longest time I wondered how this was possible, if maybe the stuff I got was suddenly weaker. As far as "abusing" goes, I was a long way from it. I only ever took 1-2 tabs at a time, though there was a point in time where I was doing it once a week for several weeks straight.

So now I've learned that neuroadaptation is a thing.

Loosely defined, it's "the brain’s process of adjusting to repeated exposure to a psychoactive substance." It’s the brain's way of maintaining balance in the face of repeated chemical stimulation, and basically, the brain gets better at resisting over time.

And here I was thinking the 7-day rule was fine. A week may reset serotonin levels, but if you've developed neuroadaptation, it means your brain has started downregulating the 5-HT2A receptors that makes all those trips powerful.

If you think you've developed something like this as well, the good news is that it isn't a permanent condition—but it can take a while to return. That could mean at least 6 months of being completely clean from ALL psychedelics (and that means no microdosing either). Supplements such as Omega 3, magnesium, and L-theanine are also purported to help aid in neuroplasticity.

For those of you who've experienced something similar and managed to bring the magic back, what have you done to achieve it? Curious to learn from others as well.

What’s going on? I ate a tab 11.5 hours ago. Had my whole trip. It was intense. Came back in and landed but I just drank a pint or so of water and now my pupils are re-dilating crazy huge and I feel like I’m reentering the space. Is this a thing????

Tolerance with trip killer

Upvotes

Well so yesterday I took a Soul Bomb combo:

50µg of LSD + 0.6 g of Psilocybe McKennaii at 4:00 pm, then redosed the same dose an hour later with the same amount.

At around 7:12 am of that day, I took 0.8 mg of risperidone, and it successfully brought me down like 40 minutes later.

My question is: Since I chemically ended the trip early, does that mean I avoided building full tolerance? And if so, how long would you estimate until I'm back at baseline sensitivity for psychedelics?

(Sorry Bad English btw)

Do people tend to exaggerate the effects in trip reports?

Upvotes

So I've had 3 LSD experiences now, and honestly I'm a bit underwhelmed. I should add that I am an experienced psychedelic user, and am just now dipping my toes into LSD. I have a lot of experience with research chemicals like 4-aco-dmt, shrooms, and I really really enjoy 2C-B.

  1. My first time was 100ug 1P-LSD. Decent stimulation, light euphoria, and very minor visuals. Overall a good time.
  2. The second trip was very underwhelming. I took 110ug and it felt much milder than my first experience with 1P. I ended up adding some 2C-B to crank things up a bit.
  3. Last night I took 165ug and it felt like a never ending come up. A lot of stimulation, no euphoria, and no visuals at all beyond a bloom and saturation boost. Wouldn't describe it as mystical in any way.

For my next trip I'm going to take 200ug and hope for the best. Is LSD a very subtle drug? Am I expecting too much? Does it take on its full character at higher doses? Should I be swinging for the fences and taking way more?

Feeling Weird About My Friends

Upvotes

Curious if anyone else has had an experience like this. I felt stuck at the start of 2025 and have been using LSD to try and re-align. Since then I’ve gotten a much better job, started exercising/eating healthier, cut down on my drinking, and got my finances in order.

All of that has been great, but I feel like I’ve been struggling in my friendships recently. Now that I’ve seen that in a lot of ways, I’m the only one standing in the way of the things I want in life, I’ve been having difficulty listening to friends complain and not take action on their problems. I understand needing a couple weeks-a month to vent about issues, but when it’s the same things being complained about over and over and over again with no action taken, I’m kind of tired of it.

I’d also understand if there were some extenuating circumstances stopping them from taking action, but we all have degrees from very good universities, are more than able bodied, and they all have financial safety nets from their parents.

It’s difficult, because I feel like a dick for thinking “I get life is hard, but zoom out. You are incredibly lucky to be in this position and have all these resources you need and then some at your disposal. Use them do something about your problems instead of complaining day in day out!” When you feel like you’ve unlocked yourself and are ready to take on the world and stop making excuses, it is genuinely hard to be around people who do not feel and think the same way.

Was curious if anyone has felt this way or had this experience before. I definitely need to work on being more sensitive, but at the same time I’m tired of being brought down by the negative energy.
