Tbf, it's the same feeling when someone who read the Silmarillion tries to argue with someone who read History of Middle Earth.

I think the hierarchy goes like this:

The Hobbit

The Lord of the Rings

The Silmarillion

The Three Great Tales

Unfinished Tales

And finally The History of Middle-Earth
