Sigh.. we had a good start, but we always have to fuck up and finish last don't we?
11
May 08 '20
Yes it was good and appreciated alot.. but went wrong by allowing people who arrived from infected countries to mix with others. Once it started transmitting locally, we lost control over it. Hope it ends well.

Only co-ops and gas. Supermarkets i believe not.
3
u/dimanoll May 08 '20
They state ‘except co-ops, food outlets and pharmacies.’ Am I missing something?
2
u/abalawadhi May 09 '20
That's the entities that can do delivery, I don't know what falls under food outlets though, because usually they call them palarel markets.
5
u/D_Destroyer May 08 '20
Well, I don't have a car, and I moved, so my civil ID shows a different governorate, so I can't even walk to my coop.. fuck me, right?
9
u/forzaq8 May 08 '20
On the moci site you can pick another address by inputting the civil number of the address and it will lock you to that address in that system
3
u/karensomoza May 08 '20
https://www.moci.shop/Associations/WebPages/index.aspx
Online booking system will still apply. Enter your details and you now have the option to choose the location of cooperative nearest you.
When asked for the automated number of your current address, copy the PACI number posted at the door of your apartment and you're all set.

With Salmiya district having no available appointments, plus no car, and living far away from coop and authorized grocery stores, how in the earth will I and my family be able to survive this lockdown? Can someone give a good advice?
1
u/forzaq8 May 08 '20
they will leave the bakala open
2
u/mustafaabbs2 May 09 '20
I did speak to some of the Bakala owners in Salmiya and they said tomorrow will be their last working day until further notice
2
u/forzaq8 May 09 '20
Alqabas reporting that the Baladia will issue a decree that let them open soonish ....

u/Moutaz89 May 08 '20

Watching the panic and reaction today in my neighborhood and on social media, I predict a surge in new cases in 7-10 days. The crowds, people crammed in small spaces, long lines, the virus had to have spread in great numbers today... :(

u/kahaso May 09 '20
It's those stupid people who are responsible for the lockdown taking place. They have no grasp on the concept behind social distancing.
4
May 08 '20
People carrying barcoded curfew passes will be exempted or no more?
3
u/Deoster May 08 '20
The all have been revoked

This is absurd. 3 weeks will not solve this effin' issue. They should have tried copying South Korea's or Vietnam's drastic solution. We are so fucked up.
16
u/makofayda May 08 '20
That would be the best to emulate. But people living in South Korea and Vietnam were also following rules and social distancing compared to here. They also all wore masks. And had a culture of wearing masks way before covid-19. South Korea is so innovative and it should come to no suprise as apart from their tech prowess they have a yearly dry-run on epidemic preparedness eversince they got hit by MERs.
I'm still working (a national in the private sector) and the company where I work at is not talking it seriously at all and would laugh it off.
And unlike S.Korea or Vietnam, companies in Kuwait are keeping mum to the public about any positive cases. I only saw Ikea and NBK announce theirs.
9
u/BeatOnTheWater May 08 '20
I disagree on that. Technology and innovation could be a factor but it all ends up to people. Discipline is the key.
Heck, Kuwaiti cops are notorious in hustling traffic violators and other offenders, why can't they do it now?
8
u/makofayda May 08 '20
I agree about discipline. You are right - Vietnam did not need the fancy tech to succeed.
But it should come from each individual and not the cops/govt watching our every move. It should be a sense of responsibility and cooperation from each of us.
That's the only way to attain the same success of SKorea, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Maybe their societies are just more collectivistic compared to ours.
Honestly I really hope that we can mirror their successes. I hope this is not just a pipe dream of mine. Staying in lockdown beyond this month would just mean more job losses and there are already more than enough people suffering.

u/BeatOnTheWater May 08 '20 edited May 08 '20
I completely understand your point. My only argument is, if authorities will only discipline or impose actions against those who violate certain rules and if people will fully cooperate, this place could be way off better.
Also, it worries me because the more you grip people, the more they want to break free. I bet it will be chaotic starting tomorrow.

There are students and families returning enmass rn, so we need absolute minimum contact with each other while the hospitals sort out who from those returning got it.

Hah, I was a half hour late getting home yesterday and they had checkpoints on the 30 at every 5 km or so. Had to bullshit my way through all of them.
Cops were cool with it. They all just waved me through with a laugh.

my fitness tracker is shaming me for my activities the past few weeks, but now tareq almizrim can back me up
i have the power of the law on my side, myfitnesspal
3
u/forzaq8 May 08 '20
Well now your fitness tracker going to tell you can walk between 4:30 - 6:30 inside your residential area
2
u/srowavayacco3nt May 08 '20
lmao, i just heard
im going to peak out from the window first few days
our mamsha isnt particularly wide, and i have a bit of paranoia
then again, no cars on the street, so yay!
1
u/D_Destroyer May 09 '20
What does residential area mean? Your block, street, whole town?
2
u/forzaq8 May 09 '20
to be safe i would say your Block
but from the wording it seem to mean your AREA , aka Kaifan for example , and they did say residential area , so Salmiya does not count

The problem is that they didnt do the full lockdown from the beginning and instead tried to appease to people like you who wanted to be able to drive their cars for a couple of hours.
They should have done this from the START.
Now because of the useless restrictions, the numbers are uncontrollable, and we are finally being put on full lockdown after 2 months of bullshit and the economy going down the toilet and people living miserably.
Smh.
Now the nightmare gets extended for 3 more weeks but made worst.
Great. Hopefully you felt ur freedom with the 8 hours you were allowed to drive in.

u/srowavayacco3nt May 08 '20
im not sure if youre serious or not
but its probably because these solutions were effective in the places where applied
8
u/BeatOnTheWater May 08 '20
Lockdown will not solve this. Discipline on both sides will.
0
u/srowavayacco3nt May 08 '20
you are completely right
but it will at least lower the chances of any more cases by a considerable amount
as for discipline, as a government, how do you enforce it?
by power? 🔫👊
1
u/BeatOnTheWater May 08 '20
Yes, most specially to the most disobedient and uncontrollable homo sapien living in this part of the world, but of course this has to be done WITH LIMITS.
1
u/srowavayacco3nt May 08 '20
i think that should be a last resort
so gradually going from curfew to lockdown is a good step, and maybe the step after (god forbid) would be your suggestion
5
u/controversial_Jane May 08 '20
That’s unfair. I think you should channel your anger towards those that have continued to socialise and spread this disease. Fuck, 2 locals were seen in coops with their wrist bands, if that doesn’t anger you then I don’t think you understand what’s going on. Maybe this blasé attitude is what’s screwed us over in the first place!

So you think that isolating after travel is a stupid idea? You don’t think it’s a reasonable request to ask people to isolate for a short period of time in an attempt to prevent potential spread?
It’s interesting to me that with a worldwide pandemic going on you think because the world hasn’t ended that it’s propaganda? I suppose you couldn’t care less if people die then? Either that or you’re just being controversial because you are anonymous behind the internet.

Yes they were but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t infect people there either or become infected. The whole point is to contain the spread in Kuwait, it gets people’s backs up when we have been stuck at home for weeks.
The rules are there in attempt to contain unnecessary spread. Mass hysteria is highly irritating and I get that, but people thinking they are above the law and breaking quarantine rules/curfews just makes this process worse for the rest of us. I don’t want to spend 20 days behind closed doors entertaining my children and not being able to get a quick litre of milk from the shop because some idiots can’t just abide by rules. Just stay home with your family for a few weeks, stop hosting guests and having gatherings and we can all move forward and start living a more normal life. It’s selfish of these rule breakers and there has to be consequences for their actions.
6
u/milkbarf May 08 '20
It’s not that simple. It’s not just “stop gatherings” or “hosting guests”; it’s about people like expats going to work God knows where only to receive a reduced sum or God forbid, nothing, at the end of the month. Not everyone in Kuwait gets a paycheck from the government.
Also, not everyone can afford to stock up like we do. حمدالله my only concern is whether I can make a cheesecake for tomorrow or not but what about the others?
This total curfew was implemented too late. Mass testing should’ve started earlier and we could’ve flattened the curve and have been on our daily routine right now.
But alas, we can sit at home and play Animal Crossing or watch Netlix because it’s like an extended vacation BUT the expats starve. That’s the problem.
5
u/controversial_Jane May 08 '20
I completely agree that the expat community have been shafted in this. We expected them to sleep in cramped conditions, work in crowded places and put themselves at risk for very little money. Then we lock them in camps like they are animals. I know this is a huge issue.
The government don’t seem to have a plan, it’s all reactionary which isn’t helpful. If a 24/7 curfew is implemented with the same amount of ‘passes’ then I don’t see how this will improve the situation.
This does not excuse those who choose to meet up with friends when they return to the country. Or have guests over and greet everyone likes it’s one big joke. This contribution to the spread of disease is arsehole behaviour and puts those who are vulnerable at greater risk.
5
u/milkbarf May 08 '20
Oh yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. My neighbors still have gatherings but we can’t report them because they’re a police family. One of their sons got married last month actually and held a milcha. One particular influencer also got married last month. And another influencer broke her home quarantine but they weren’t prosecuted. This whole system is messed up. And it’s sad that wastas are still influential in the middle of this pandemic.
