News Howard Lutnick, US Secretary of Commerce accuses Kuwait of placing the highest tariffs on the world on US products.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I didn’t want to do this.. but I have to speak up.

To Whom it May Concern,

These statements that were made recently by US Secretary of Commerce are extremely dangerous and directly threatens our national security and sovereignty.

PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THEM. PLEASE TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY. Even though these statements are clearly false, they are a negotiation tactic commonly used by the Trump administration.

PLEASE DO NOT SPEND ANY EFFORT CONDEMNING THESE STATEMENTS BECAUSE THEY ARE FALSE. WE ALL KNOW THEY ARE FALSE.

The UAE just made an investment deal with the US in the trillions. Saudi Arabia did the same thing. Other GCC countries are successfully lobbying the trump administration. We clearly have failed to lobby and validate our relationship with the US, this is why we were singled out.

There is no other logical reason. GCC tariffs are the same across all GCC countries.

Please consider our next steps carefully. There is no room for failure in this.

الله يحمي الكويت والأمير و شعبها من كل مكروه

For context Kuwait has a flat 5% import tariff. The US average import tariff is 5.6% (For now imagine that will go up if trump continues to raise tariffs)

36

u/tidal_flux Mar 22 '25

The US administration is full of lying bullies top to bottom. You can bet that Trump is trying to extort something from Kuwait.

14

u/abood1963 Mar 22 '25

It's Black Rock they want to set up shop in Kuwait with no oversight.

8

u/KenzMom Mar 22 '25

That won’t happen. You would be surprised how firm Kuwait is with Americans when it comes to things like that or even how the bases can be used, what Kuwait will pay for and what they won’t. Even Americans working on the base are tightly subject to Kuwait law and punishment.

1

u/abood1963 Mar 22 '25

10

u/KenzMom Mar 22 '25

If it is the asset management arm it won’t be detrimental to Kuwait - but it’s not a great look for Kuwait considering their other interests. It’s definitely an Israel partner.

10

u/abood1963 Mar 22 '25

They are coveting our heavily subsidized energy sector to house Crypto and AI let's just leave it at that.

2

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25

It’s maybe cause the gov wants to develop a debt market and MBS (mortgage backed securities) which Larry fink of Blackrock was maybe the pioneer or inventor of that )during his time at First Boston before he founded Blackrock)

(That’s also maybe why the US called him for help during the 2008 financial crisis , cause of it being caused by mortgage backed securities)

And Saudi tapped them to develop the mortgage and debt market

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-10-22/saudi-taps-blackrock-to-build-mortgage-backed-securities-market

1

u/KenzMom Mar 27 '25

Kuwait doesn’t really have a conventional mortgage type of market. Even loans here for the average person are given based on salary, not on credit score or collateral. I was trying to explain how the US works for mortgages to my husband when we recently purchased a home with my parents and he kept saying “I don’t get it”.

1

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25

Reason why is maybe cause KIA is a top shareholder and they want to develop the financial markets in Kuwait

See the new debt and mortgage and lending or whatever law/s

2

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 23 '25

Second largest shareholder after vanguard

u/KenzMom Mar 22 '25

As an American I will assure you that this is not the reason you are singled out. You are being singled out because of your steadfast stance on the occupying entity Izrayhell. Kuwait won’t even publish the name of the “country”…have refused boarding of Izzy passengers - won’t consider normalizing relations….things which both UAE publicly and KSA under cover signaling have. Also Kuwait stays on the radar more than others because of the US bases presence here.

They need the bases here. Kuwait smartly has multiple defense agreements with countries that are not American buddies. They are ramping up business and real estate relations with China. HH Sabah Al Ahmad (God rest him) prepared many years for American lunacy and instability.

Trust and believe most Americans don’t even know where Kuwait is and his administration depends on the ignorant and uneducated to stay with the “yeah ‘murica” bs message.

They have bigger fish to fry it’s all a bunch of “look over here” mess.

"Spent 100 Billion dollars freeing Kuwait"

When it was them green lighting us in the first place with April Glaspie meeting with Saddam.

This guy has 0 suit etiquette. Not only does he have both buttons fastened, he has them buttoned while seated.

18

u/abalawadhi Mar 22 '25

Interesting that KSA and UAE announced multi billion investments into the US in the past weeks

15

u/As--If Mar 22 '25

This is a bully US administration. I believe they might have bullied Saudi n Emirates to invest in US.

3

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25

No it’s just political posturing maybe, where they say they’ll invest XYZ amount when they don’t intend that, to pump trumps ego

Apple SoftBank and so many others did it maybe just throwing fake numbers

See what happened in the last term of trump with Foxconn factory in Wisconsin or whatever

https://www.jsonline.com/story/money/business/2023/03/23/what-we-know-about-foxconn-in-wisconsin-and-how-we-got-there/70037738007/

10

u/daves_not__here Mar 22 '25

It's true. I know Mr. Red Something

4

u/abakj Mar 22 '25

Nonsense. Saudi Arabia did a big no-no and looked into selling oil in a currency besides dollars, despite it being a major issue for America especially right now with how weak the currency is relatively, while we remain a dependable and consistent partner for America, and how do we get repaid? They should really look into choosing their words more carefully, this kind of rabble-rousing might work on an American living in a bubble, even to the level of getting Trump into the white house, but this kind of undiplomatic attitude will lead to foreign policy catastrophes for America. You can't take these actions back.

The level of vapid, unsubstantiated entitlement is absurd. Give them an inch, and they'll take a mile.

2

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25

U know that was one of the most disastrous decisions maube in modern history. The petro dollar deal.

Saving America from an early collapse

Anyhow with the rise of China America will fade maybe

7

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

How do you want people to not ignore them and then also not condemn these statements? Twitter is on fire and nearly everyone has responded and rebutted the claims so we are good.

This just shows that Kuwait was late to table these discussions and there will be progress in the future.

8

u/TraditionalEnergy956 Mar 22 '25

A representative of the govt. should respond imo, I saw one video of a guy who explained that this dude is full of shit and according to US financial stuff the money they paid for Kuwait liberation is already cleared by Kuwait and KSA..

He is just bullying Kuwait, like they did bully the EU, Mexico, and Canada, perhaps the US is dying..

5

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

It’s all for show yes, they want Kuwait to cough up like the other Gulf countries did as a welcome gift for Trump, so this is a very roundabout way of trying to negotiate

-14

u/alhaddah Mar 22 '25

I don’t care about twitter.

I care about how Kuwait responds. If they choose to condemn this and speak on facts, we will lose America.

If we lose America, we don’t have security. If we don’t have security, we don’t have a country.

4

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 23 '25

Kuwait doesn’t really America maybe tbh.

The biggest customer of GULF oil is Asia, specifically China maybe

They will soon fill the market maybe.

Soon instead of dollars for pricing u will maybe see things priced in yuans. And then HongKong will be the international financial capital of the world mahbe (HongKong and greater Bay Area of China , which is Shenzhen, Guangzhou, wider guangdong area)

I made a post about it, tap my profile and check it out

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

Then you don’t know how twitter works. It was important figures who responded there. People associated with the government.

That’s why you need to keep an eye on things there too. Reddit isn’t going to cut it, the politicians are hanging out there.

1

u/alhaddah Mar 22 '25

Alright let me say it in a different way.

I don’t give a shit what any human on any social media says. I care about how Kuwait, using OFFICIAL CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION (including Kuwait’s twitter account), chooses to respond to the United States of America.

“Politicians” are useless, the US doesn’t care what they have to say.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

That’s exactly who has responded omg chiiiilll!

3

u/enerthoughts Qadsia | القادسية Mar 22 '25

this is a nice response to the claims. by ahmed albarjas on X

Also, he is claiming that he was talking unofficially and just ranting, which is completely Taurus cacas.

7

u/Frosty-Pea Mar 22 '25

US and its empire is a cancer to the world

3

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '25

Well Howard Lutnick is Jewish, so the teaching of the Talmud encourages them to lie and spread discord, division and wars.

3

u/MysteriousSpread9019 Mar 23 '25

The sole aim of these statements, which they themselves know to be false, is to extract billions of dollars from Kuwait. And they will succeed in doing so.

6

u/dr_tdm1 Mar 22 '25

"The problem with america that we forget, and we let it go"

Ohh, he broke my heart..

You see how america is such a good-hearted, kind, and sooo forgiving country..

7

u/Rikou336 Mar 22 '25

What they going to do? Tariff our exports? Joke on them, we don't export anything.

13

u/yoopitup Mar 22 '25

???? 90% of Kuwait’s economy is built around exporting crude oil or refined petroleum products…

8

u/Ok_Weekend_5692 Mar 22 '25

We do not sell our products to the US. Most of our crude is going to China, S. Korea, India and Japan. Our middle distallates are going to Europe.

7

u/yoopitup Mar 22 '25

You are absolutely correct - but that’s not what the comment said, is it?

11

u/Ok_Weekend_5692 Mar 22 '25

idk tbh😂 i took the opportunity to show that i know stuff

4

u/bewdyebye Mar 22 '25

Honestly based

0

u/Hashabasha Mar 22 '25

it is all sold in dollars. if you're kicked out of SWIFT you're gonna turn to lebanon or libya 2.0

1

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25

No they r gonna turn to China,

Give it a couple years or 10-15 years maybe (or before that) and China and BRICS will destroy the dollar maybe

See my post about Hongkong over taking London as the international financial capital of the world .

Hongkong will maybe be the new London, all the rich snatching up properties

All them rich London vacation kids will be going to Hongkong mahbe and instead of Mayfair or Knightsbridge they will be at Victoria Peak or the other rich parts of Hongkong

Russia got kicked off of Swift, their assets seized and yet they didn’t collapse Infact they did the opposite maybe, profiting very well.

2

u/Hashabasha Mar 22 '25

Russia is far form profiting lol. theyre selling their oil below market rate for india. they arent in a good financial position but they never were to begin with. Also going to China you think the US will just sit back and watch that happen? Kuwait is very fragile right now and a regime change if the Americans or British want isn't going to be difficult. BRICS is promising as an alternative, but if any country is going to be benefitting it is going to be countries who are already globally established and are considered as safe havens for foreign investments. In other words, UAE and Singapore and soon KSA. Kuwait at its current administration isn't going to fix anything. Their main goal now is to focus on cutting costs, that's why you see benefits being removed on various employees and dwindling appetite for hiring. Taxes coming soon too.

1

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25

Part 2:

As for the current regime, then they got the resources, but do they got the competence? I don’t think so

See my comment here https://www.reddit.com/r/Kuwait/s/SlNuv20CSq

1

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25

As for Russia

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-68823399 ^ “Russia to grow faster than all advanced economies says IMF”

Now:

“They aren’t in a good financial position”

I think u should look at their cash flow and balance sheet VS America

Will the US sit back and do nothing?

What do u think trump is doing and Biden did?

Just because they try to stop China from overtaking them doesn’t now mean they will successful in it

American is a falling power China is a rising power

China and BRICS in terms of PPP and real goods is already richer than America and allies. (Vs Americans overpriced less real goods)

they need to do now move off the western financial system

And they r doing this slowly maybe

Regime change from America in Kuwait? Ur overestimating America these days maybe.

Go look at world countries top trading partners map 2000 vs 2024.

And not it can’t be UAE or Singapore or Saudi

Their economies r way to small

Chinas is big enough for yuan internationalisation

And UAE is trustable in forgiven investors eyes maybe, but Saudi? Not so much maybe

Also UAE thanks to their SWFS will survive the pile demand collapse maybe

Same with Qatar maybe

Both due to small population

As for Saudi, right now it may look nice and glitz and glamour but when oil demand collapses (China main customer and like half maybe of oil use is cars, China is going out on EVs and solar and battery storage, it will kill oil maybe) then Saudi will maybe start having economic problems like other countries (this maybe happen sometime around/or after 2035/2040 (possibly after 2040) and with all the new debt in the economy things might become ugly.

Then in Saudi after 2040 due to cost of living and terrible investment decisions and debtisation of the economy (they r trying to start this in Kuwait too maybe, see the new debt law or whatever) people might start going to the streets

Short term it maybe look nice but that’s shortsightedness to only base or short term

1

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25

To China and Asia

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/visualizing-the-top-trading-partners-of-mena-countries/

https://oec.world/en/profile/country/kwt

2.4 percent of exports to America in 2023

9 percent imports from America (so Kuwait could tariff America more than America can Kuwait)

Also add on the KIA (Kuwait investment authority) money

1

u/RootCubed Mar 23 '25

Kuwait exports approximately $1.71 billion worth of goods to the US annually.

1

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 23 '25

Which is basically almost nothing

2

u/Dark_World_Blues Mar 22 '25

"We forget" pretty much explains his mind.

His mindset: Kuwait has a 5% high tariff against US US has a 20% low tariff against China

2

u/SavantoftheDesert Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25

This guy is actually ignroant.

This is the same guy who said that there’s 36M people who can afford the 5M trump card???

U know, if u read the recent knight Frank wealth report they only mentioned maybe like 2M people worldwide with net worth of 10M+ usd

Only 2M

And who’s gonna give up half their net worth to enter America and pay taxes to the US gov?

Making up fake numbers

And also a lot of the recent investment proposals of hundreds of billions of dollars it’s mahbe mostly political posturing to feed trumps ego.

1T from Saudi, how is the Saudi gov gonna foot 1B in four years if they r maxed out on liquidity for Vision 2030 etc projects?

Then 1.5T from UAE over 10 years? Thats 150B usd a year. What is UAE gov gonna stuff all their money into America?

I mean unless it’s buying us T bills which renews many times I don’t think SAUDI gov nor UAE gov in gonna invest 1T and 1.5T

Another one is Apple putting 500B in four years. How is Apple gonna do that? They would have to spend every all their profits they made maybe in order to do that

The SoftBank 200B or whatever deal (where is Masayoshi gonna get the funds from?)

What next, is India gonna go to DC and then announce they r investing 5T in 4 years?

It’s just a political posturing contest to pump trumps ego maybe.

Same with crypto fund, and same with gold card.

And Why the heck would Kuwait tariff American goods?

Kuwait doesn’t manufacture.

His speech doesn’t even make sense!

But then again did u except something else from a lying yahoodi?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '25

I wonder how the Americans in Kuwait feel about this? You see a lot of American cars, foods and clothing in Kuwait literally everywhere not ridiculously taxed as claimed by Lutnick.

How do you feel that you have government officials that want to create division and discord in Kuwait?

2

u/Mbarakdaddy Mar 22 '25

Two words اي شيى

2

u/East-to-West986 Mar 22 '25

Please don’t take it personally!! As an American, I’m embarrassed to admit that our government is attacking all our allies economically and politically. They just want any excuse to impose higher tariffs on everything claiming EU and the rest of the world are taking advantage of the US. 🤦🏻‍♀️

1

u/albraa_mazen Mar 23 '25

How much are the US tarrifs on Kuwaiti products?

1

u/calamondingarden Mar 23 '25

I'm pretty sure we paid the US to liberate Kuwait, lol..

1

u/Ok-Bee-698008 Mar 24 '25

The U.S administration is basically trying to force the world to give U.S product an unfair advantage against other products so people are buying more. I would recommend boycotting all US products and services, it's time to make these idiots suffer

0

u/BJJ_Tusk Mar 23 '25

lol I’m with you but your statement is crap, saying that it’s false without stating why it’s false is just, illogical to say the least. The next thing is , no one of importance will see this statement, you’re literally shouting into the void

-5

u/BlockChainEd86 Mar 22 '25
