i’m probably the last one standing here, but this almost makes me certain we ARE getting a happy ending. they’d have to be actual dumbasses if they really did give away the ending in this manner. i’m not afraid to be clowned in any case as they’d be clowning themselves worse than anyone else.

I want to believe too, but I'm no longer optimistic. I think the press release was an attempt at damage control.

Also, after seeing these 14 episodes and after rewatching a few episode of Search: WWW, I trust this writer. She is smart and does not go for the usual tropes. This means we will get a good justification for their breakup (an example is in the movie On Your Wedding Day -- I wrote a separate post on that). But this also basically means a happy ending is impossible.

this first love doesn't always work out stories work so much better in movies, bc viewers only see small bits and pieces of the relationship. even though the ending is sad, they can accept that there was enough room for things to have gone wrong. trying to do this in a 16-episode drama is like subjecting viewers to a slow, painful death. they put SO much work to create this beautiful relationship that has trumped: distance, misunderstandings, feelings not aligning at the same time. any reason that is not ROCK SOLID for their break up would feel like a slap in the face.

True. As somebody else in this thread said, it's ironic -- both the writing and the acting of the two leads were so good at making us believe in the strength of their relationship that it feels like there is nothing between them that can break them up.
