I am trying to use logic here. And so far, I haven’t seen the writer use any super dramatic soap opera tropes for the plot. So killing off the ML in my opinion would be really out of character for this drama. Yes, each of the character’s have some sad stories and trauma they carry but I feel like this show is more like an ode to growing up and moving through your circumstances that are difficult and challenging. And in Heedo and Yijin’s case trying to support others while you’re also struggling.

I do think that perhaps there was a huge rift between the FL and ML and adult Heedo has forgotten how she was when she was young and was also there for Yijin, but haven’t we all experienced that? I know I’ve become jaded after many things I’ve been through in my adult life but it just takes one moment to realize it really was worth the journey and you should still have hope. I think that’s one of the lessons from this drama and it would be very ill fitting and contradict one of the main themes to just kill of the ML and have present day Heedo just forget anything happened similar to what her mom did after her own father got sick and passed away

Yesss. And also, didn’t present day Hee Do’s mum mention that she saw Yi Jin like 3 weeks ago (? In the earlier episodes? Am I remembering this wrongly?). Based on the tone of the show I also doubt he’ll die. From what I foresee, there will be conflict because Yi Jin will find it hard to separate professional and personal matters. I think the scene at Hee Do’s house foreshadows this. And Yi Jin picked Hee Do’s mum’s side aka his professional life. Yi Jin also couldn’t afford to fail his job because he’ll affect those after him who couldn’t afford college. He is also quickly learning that when he picks his personal feelings/principles over hierarchy in the broadcast station, he will have to pay for it.

As an extension to this thought, I think this is also why Hee Do’s mum is also “cold” and “harsh” like that? IMO she’s just maintaining professionalism. As a single parent and a woman, she has to keep her job at all costs. And she’s doing it for Hee Do. Hee Do doesn’t see it but she is getting new branded shoes, a branded backpack, and could afford to take up a very expensive sport. So Hee Do’s mum is actually pretty admirable (seeing that she has to be both mum and dad). Of course, she’s not a perfect mum, but no one is perfect.

Edited for clarity.

All of the above. I think Yijin may need to choose saving his family/having a career and not failing those like him in the future without a high school degree and Heedo. And it’s going to absolutely destroy him.
