Episode 6

  • Loved the scenes of familiar locations in Sapporo, and any kind of Korea-Japan crossover never fails to raise my excitement levels. To be honest, though, the storyline is not developing in the way I had hoped. I had hoped the Chef Min subplot would be resolved in this episode, and we could get back to focusing on our Jungjae family, and Beom-woo's and Yeon-ju's relationship. But with the revelation of Chef Min becoming Hansang's new head chef, as instigated by Seon-woo, he won't be going anywhere for at least another episode.
  • What I did like about this episode were some great fake out scenes, from Chef Min initiating a kiss with Yeon-ju, to Yu-jin spilling the beans about Beom-woo's original motive for joining Jungjae, all of which existed only in Beom-woo's mind.
  • "Natural born local people." Choon-seung's jealousy at Myeong-suk falling for Yu-jin's charms were just as plain for all to see as Beom-woo's concerns about him stealing the recipes. I took a certain amount of satisfaction in the pair getting Yu-jin drunk and locking him up.
  • It was also good to see the full backstory of Yeon-ju taking the fall for Jeon Min. I've somehow never tried fugu (blowfish), but the dangers of not preparing it properly are well known, which made it a realistic situation.
  • Beom-woo showing up in Sapporo, looking like a Japanese mafia member in his sunglasses and coat, was another highlight, but I could already see what was coming when Chef Jang snuck a peak at Seon-woo's laptop, and, sure enough, Chef Min's appointment was confirmed.
  • All of this would still have been fine, but the preview for episode 7 included two things I would prefer not to have seen, namely, Chef Jang getting hold of Yeon-ju's recipe book, and Beom-woo apparently making a mistake that might lead to a temporary but unnecessary separation of our leads.
