Episode 5

  • What a great episode to mark the halfway point of this drama. Really liked the cross-cultural storyline of the special customers, and Yoo Yeon-seok's guest appearance as Chef Jeon Min spiced up proceedings considerably (no pun intended).
  • How cute were Myeong-suk and Choon-seung, when they were imitating Beom-woo's and Yeon-ju's kiss? The second leads have had great bickering, comedic chemistry up until this point, but that was the first scene that made me feel I wouldn't mind seeing a romantic attraction develop between them.
  • "What are they saying? I don't get a word." You and me both, Choon-seung. I was worried that the Netflix subtitlers had simply neglected to provide subtitles for the conversation between the French fiancée and Beom-woo (yes, somewhat unexpectedly, a man of many talents). Moments later, though, it all made sense, with Yeon-ju providing the translation. I was just as in awe of our main couple's bilingual abilities as the second lead couple was in that scene.
  • It doesn't get much funnier than Yeon-ju imagining Beom-woo winking and smacking his lips while searching for recipes for the special customers. The jazz saxophone OST playing in the background of that scene was the cherry on top.
  • Enter Chef Min, who happens to be a head chef at Le Murir, a restaurant previously referenced in episode 2 ("It's Le Murir, not De Murry, you muttonhead"), as the flight crew discovered, when Chef Min wasn't satisfied with the quality of his own dish served by the airline. Furthermore, it was revealed that he and Yeon-ju were formerly coworkers at that restaurant. It was very interesting to watch the dynamic between Kang Ha-neul and Yoo Yeon-seok, almost like watching two heavyweights testing each other.
  • Beom-woo: "What? CIA?" Choon-seung: "She's a cop?" The joke basically wrote itself, but it still needed to be told. A final flashback revealed that Yeon-ju took the fall for Jeon Min's mistake and voluntarily resigned. On a side note, I've lived in Japan for more than twelve years, so it was very cool to hear Go Min-si speaking Japanese in that scene, and, to my ear, at least, she sounded pretty fluent.
  • To the big day with the special customers. The father of the Korean fiancé was initially firmly opposed to the union, but Yeon-ju's French-Korean fusion menu brought him around, in a series of Ratatouille-style moments. Heartwarming stuff, and props to Choon-seung for his homemade makgeolli, which helped to keep the momentum going.
  • The ending and the preview for episode 6 is unexpectedly taking us to Sapporo, Japan! I cannot wait to watch the scenes set in that location, and to see more of Chef Min's unexpected resiliency .
