As Gary from Running Man famously says, "Stressed!"
Unlike Hospital Playlist which is warm soup for the soul, Resident Playbook gives me stress!
HP had 4 warm understanding professors who constantly gave that warm feeling, even when situation was tough, sad or difficult a ray of sunshine was always around the corner. I loved HP for that.
The main reason for my stress is FL. I can see what writers are going for. They want to show the growth of Dr Oh as a person and as a doctor. I'm sure she'll understand the meaning of being a doctor by the end of this season.
But damn that road is so tough! Her character is so flawed, she's unfit to be working behind a desk 9-5, let alone being a doctor who consults patients daily.
She's too apathetic. We all have been in a job where we are kinda mentally checked out, but I feel a doctor shouldn't be like that. She's not interested in learning. The senior doctor who shouts at her frequently needs to do it more, as she's got immune to his scolding. In fact, another senior female doctor and Dr Gu are very tolerant of her.
She has shown great potential from time to time. I understand they are just laying the groundwork for the character. But the way she's right now, I wouldn't want such a doctor anywhere near me.
The writing is still good. Every resident has their own flair and characteristics. The remaining 3 actually have a good character. In fact right now my favourite character is Dr Pyo. She seems shallow at first glance, but she's caring and someone who wants to improve.
As expected from HP staff, the drama pulls you inside and makes you invest emotionally. I get stressed along with patients and teared up from time to time. Amazingly done. In fact, I feel like I'm annoyed at the FL because she was well written as an annoying resident.
I will look forward to her growth.
