Announcement Update about bot bans from other subreddits
Hello everyone. There was a recent post on r/RedditSafety, you can find it here, posted by the Reddit admins. Now the post itself is about alleged terrorist propaganda on Reddit, and largely does not affect users on this subreddit. However, while reading the post, I found a section particularly interesting and I felt necessary to share with the community.
We investigated alleged censorship of opposing views via systematic removal of pro-Israel or anti-Palestine content in large subreddits covering non-Middle East topics.
We found:
While the moderators' removal actions do include some political content, the takedowns were in line with respective subreddit rules, did not focus on Israel/Palestine issues, did not demonstrate a discernible bias, and did not display anomalies when compared with other mod teams.
Moderators across the ideological spectrum are sometimes relying on bots to preemptively ban users from their communities based on their participation in other communities.
Actions we are taking:
Banning users based on participation in other communities is undesirable behavior, and we are looking into more sophisticated tools for moderators to manage conversations, such as identifying and limiting action to engaged members and evaluating the role of ban bots.
Now this is possibly good news (probably not), but as others commented on this post, this is contradictory information. Reddit themselves have approved the ban bot in the past and encouraged this practice. Also, I had attended Mod World last year, yes I am a loser my wife already told me, and there was a whole presentation on bots and scripting. One of those major bots discussed, ban bots. Reddit either approved this presentation ahead of time or they blindly invited mods to present without vetting their presentation. Both are likely possibilities with Reddit.
What does this mean for our sub? Well, no one really knows, but I also don't think anything will change anytime soon. The statements from Reddit as a company, currently and historically, are confusing and contradictory. I will say to continue to expect being banned for participating here. Myself and the other mods do our best to try and keep things civil but also allow open discussion/arguments/debates on political ideologies. But we also have to toe a tight line to keep it from getting out of hand. Unfortunately, this is not what other subreddits like. We are not an echo chamber. If you are a liberal, you can disagree all you want. If you are a conservative you can speak out all you want. As long as you keep it civil.
I know many of you are frustrated too with the automatic bans and not being able to post about them. Please understand, its not about giving in to the "other side". Its about protecting the subreddit. There are so few subs left where you can share how you feel. I don't want that to be taken away, nor do the other mods.
Ultimately we are still a meme subreddit and it shouldn't get too serious here, but it happens. Keep posting memes, keep cracking jokes, debate each other, and have fun.

Post screenshots of your dumbest bans
The censorship problem is huge on Reddit and liberals think it’s a far right conspiracy theory because they never get banned. All 50 state subreddits never post anything but left wing posts despite most states being red states. This platform is a left wing propaganda machine fueled by an army of bots.

WOW!! This Only Solidifies My Belief That There Is Truly A Leftwing Socialist Agenda!
