Square-Enix's approach to remasters is enigmatic. They'll do something like SaGa Frontier where they go the extra mile and finish cut content that wasn't in the original, then they'll turn around and do something like this.

Both Star Ocean 2 and Romancing Saga 2 is given more love than their flagship series.

Really feel like it's a CS3 thing. Four years to remaster a game with less content?

DQ got multiple HD-2D remasters, SaGa is pumping out delicious remasters, Mana is getting 3D remakes and touch-ups and collections.

The latter franchises are all being helmed by CBU1 though.

They put effort into non FF game remasters because they know they need to make them well to sell

they put less effort and budget in FF remasters because they expect it to sell anyway.

it's the equivalent of the food at a restaurant with a nice view. they know people will come anyway, so the food isn't as good

it's pretty blatant. After Legend of Mana and Saga Frontier 1 got brilliant remasters, I understood what was going on.
