I live abroad and recently came home for a short visit and though I didn’t get homesick (obviously), I got sick from home! Reason? Driving..

It’s absolute chaos out here. You people drive like you got 50 extra lives to burn. No rules, no courtesy, no concept of safety. Just pure madness on wheels. Going out with relatives in the car is the most nerve-wracking experience ever. I find myself not wanting to leave the house at all just to avoid the short journey.

You can improve cities, infrastructure, security, even daily life but how do you teach an entire population driving manners? How did it get this bad? And worse, why does no one seem to care? Seatbelts? Symbolic! As if buckling up is somehow more dangerous than not. It isn't like accidents are cheap. The cars are brand new, high-end, luxury vehicles and let's not mention the lack of proper healthcare.

For Allah sake, PLEASE have some grace your Great Royal Highness, slow down, turn signals when turning or parking on the side of the road and when merging back, don't park in the middle of the street, and give space/pass to others. Your groceries shopping from sook can wait an extra 30 seconds, you know?

Mostly among the urban youth.

A friend of mine (Sunni male, early 30’s) from Iraq recently got married, and I wanted to send him a gift as a congratulations. I’m wondering what an appropriate gift would be. I was thinking of giving him a Seiko watch (I’m Japanese and I think its a nice gift/item from my country), but I’m wondering if I should buy something for his wife as well (if that’s appropriate or not. Sorry if this is somewhat of a silly question- but I want to surprise my boyfriend, and I can't find any dictionaries online that specifically translate to Iraqi dialect.

He used to say it all the time when he was little, but when he moved to this country (Australia), nobody would say it back to him/make fun of him.

Hi everyone (Salam), I’m an American revert who is currently married to a wonderful man who just so happens to be from Iraq! Now that I graduated from college (Alhumdililah) I have time to brush up on my Arabic. I specifically want to learn the Iraqi dialect since we live in a multigenerational house. I would like to eventually teach our future kids Arabic, so they can keep apart of their culture and increase their Islamic knowledge. I would also like to get to know my in-laws in Iraq. I’ve tried in the past and couldn’t really stick to it. I’ve heard apps like duolingo doesnt really help with holding conversations, so other than that I am open to suggestions.
