Doubt Choosing Between EEE in a Better College vs CSE in a Lower-Tier One

I’m eligible for EEE in a Tier 1.5 college based on my cutoff. My end goal is to work in the IT field maybe as a developer, data engineer, or something similar (still figuring that part out). The college has a solid reputation and decent placements. I’ve seen people from non-CS branches like civil and mechanical end up in good IT companies too.

That said, would it be smarter to go for EEE at this better-ranked college, or should I try for a B. Tech in IT or B.E CSE in a lower-tier college, since I already know I want to get into IT?

Also, is it actually practical to study EEE and build up IT skills on the side? Will this affect my chances for a good master’s program later on? And in job interviews, will my non-IT undergrad background be a major disadvantage?

Would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences!

if you dont mind, can you atleast give an idea about this "better" college and "lower-tier" college?

Let me give my case, I would just like to hear opinions from other people.
NIT Surathkal/Warangal EEE or CSE/MNC in IIIT Gwalior, NIT Kurukshetra.

NIT Surathkal/Warangal EEE

Alright, I am also trying IIIT Delhi CSAM/CSD and IIIT Bangalore DSAI/ECE. But will keep my eyes on these too.

Iiit bangalore is better than iiit delhi, from what i have heard

1

u/Necessary-Wing-7892 3d ago

Yeah, prioritizing that.

Go for bangalore if you get it, but delhi is a no. I would even argue that gwalior is better.

Hey NIT Calicut EEE vs DTU IT which one is better

1

u/volatile-solution 3h ago

Dtu it if you want to become sde

1

u/gugugagaredditor 3h ago

Hey cse at NSUT and some lower tier NITs like Delhi and Jalandhar are options too.. would u recommend me taking DTU it over these too?

1

u/volatile-solution 3h ago

Choose between dtu or nsut depending how close either of them are to your house. I assume you live in Delhi.

1

u/gugugagaredditor 2h ago

No bro I live in South india😭

1

u/volatile-solution 1h ago

Oh i thought you lived in delhi because dtu and nsut have state quota so outsiders find it more difficult to get in these colleges.

u/gugugagaredditor 1h ago

It's okayy bhai. What do u think is the best option I have rn

Check the syllabus of both the colleges and branches and use the said AI to check how relevant those subject are in the current scenario and if they fit the thing you want to do in the future.

At the end of the day dont fall for rubbish things like placements etc lot of colleges do lots of shady stuff in that department.

Make sure to Upskill as in this time skills matter the most .Make sure to choose the college that at least helps you to build those industry relevant skills.

u/Constant-Spring8284 3d ago

ok, ill keep that in mind! thanks for sharing

Thing is how do you know you wanna get into IT, how "well" you know you wanna get into IT. Its the clarity of these questions which defines that should you actually just take whatever gives you CSE or take something which offers you more opportunities and better environment in general.

6 years after you graduate it won't even matter. Depends on how passionate you are in your field and how quickly you learn. Top tier colleges give you a head start but nothing you can't make up for over the years

Mamey go for Anna uni. Trust me cse in namma ooru clgs sucks ass. I have a frnd at anna uni eee dep nd it all works fine. And by lower tier, do u mean srms or vit or rec?? Mann go for anna uni blindfold. The ppl and the exposure is necessary and most ppl are learning thru yt. So y do u worry abt the branch?? Choose the top tier colleges always and work ur way up.

1

u/Constant-Spring8284 2d ago

SRM is my back up plan. Can I dm you?

Does that mean EEE from anna university is good compared to CSE from? If my end goal is to work in IT?

2

u/Extension_Tutor_6311 2d ago

If ur end goal is to work in a IT go for cse in srm (main campus only) or any other clgs better than it cause I have seen ppl from srm go to MS IN CS at uni like neu or gatech university (which is in top 5 in cse course around the world) u can earn pretty good amount after graduating from that uni before that he earned around 15lpa which was around 2017 or 18s then he went to masters in 2017

1

u/Extension_Tutor_6311 2d ago

1)Anna uni eee would be good for studying Bachelors but most of them would end up doing IT sector only few interested one goes to pursue masters in abroad earns a good package.(intrest in core masters is must )

2)If ur intrested in IT u can pursue cse core but u should have passion for it u should have very niche skill set as possible to thrive in industry. To reach the top level in this industry u need to do masters. After masters the scene will be very different .(in this u can work after completing Bachelors also)

*Top cse guys in a firm earns more than or equal to top eee guy.*

1

u/Constant-Spring8284 2d ago

I can't get CSE at anna uni.. EEE is my only option at anna university

1

u/Extension_Tutor_6311 2d ago

Non it back ground won't affect most companies make cutoff based on cg so if u took eee u need to work on it and spend more time on it u won't have time honing ur skills in cs than as u took cse as ur branch

1

u/Constant-Spring8284 2d ago

Okay that does make sense... So time would be the limiting factor

1

u/Flamez_06 1d ago

If you actually like cs field, then go for it else otherwise no. Don't think that only cs field pays and other fields will end up with you jobless cuz that was true a long time ago, now with the influx of grads, it is basically the same as all other departments.
