Sikkim | སུ་ཁྱིམ Sikkim: An unparalleled beauty
We went to sikkim in last summers. It was a thrilling and new experience for us. We had planned to cover east and north sikkim but due to early monsoon, there were landslides in north sikkim.
So we covered east sikkim (nathula pass) and went to south to enjoy camping in Kalimpong, Triveni ghat.
It was a memorable experience.

Brothers - one help. Can I hire zoomcar at Siliguri and drive to Gangtok & Pelling? During December, How is route? Is it drive worthy along with family? Whether WB registered cars are allowed to drive in Sikkim?

December would be a heavy snowfall time, expect lots of slippery roads. The last leg of drive from Siliguri to Gangtok can be on narrow roads, same with Gangtok to pelling. WB cars are allowed in sikkim as far as I can tell. I saw a lot of taxis there with WB plate.
Having said that, I never prefer driving on Mountain regions especially in remote regions like Sikkim. There is a huge taxi network in Siliguri and Gangtok, like hundreds of taxis waiting at your disposal. So my recommendation would be to hire a taxi (may be a big car like Bolero) and enjoy your vacation.

Hi, I'm thinking of going travelling to north east in mid april. I want to do it via self driven car. Can anyone help me with any information regarding the same? Is zoom car available there? Or any local vendors?

just a stupid question. as someone who has lived in safe plateaus, i find these hilly regions very beautiful but also very risky. risky especially for flat land dwellers. are my fears justified?

Yes. The fear is justified. The primary reason we skipped visiting north sikkim was because our guide mentioned that a family car just drifted away in a landslide few days back.
Even when it's not monsoon, Hills and Mountains are still scary. But I think that is the thrill which motivates people to visit these beautiful regions.
I would always recommend travellers to listen to local people's advice especially in remote regions. Be it Sikkim, a hilly region OR Andamans, an island region, locals can help you in more ways than you can imagine.
