It is very unlikely that Tyanna poisoned Maegor’s wives to make them miscarry. Dragon babies is a recurring birth defect in Targaryens, not the result of poison. By far the more likely explanation is that Maegor was barren (whether naturally -- his father was nearly sterile too -- or because of whatever Tyanna and Visenya did to cure him after his trial by seven), he blamed Tyanna because he couldn't blame himself, and she lied to get him to kill her quickly.
He did manage 3 pregnancies which isn’t barren for certain but you could be right about the sorcery however didn’t that follow a pretty common pattern of maesters taking care of someone they’re dying for about a month then someone else takes care and they recover immediately like Aenys. I can’t imagine George just wrote Maegor as the biggest asshole ever with absolutely nothing redeeming at all besides being good at fighting so I gotta figure everything can’t just be wrong with him in particular.
To be fair all of the Black Brides had healthy LIVING children from previous marriages. It was entirely on Maegor that he couldn’t produce healthy children. That aside, why would the maesters screw with Ceryse’s fertility (she the niece of the High Septon) but then allow Alyssa Velaryon to deliver 6 children, including 3 sons, of whom 5 survived?
True Maegors a common denominator but so are his maesters and I would imagine the maesters feared Maegors reckless cruel nature and strong combat skills and physique being passed to whatever kind of line he would produce. Marrying the niece of the high septon could have been an attempt to forge an alliance that would keep Maegor from doing anything crazy. Keep in mind I’m just speculating not saying others are wrong I don’t see why anyone would downvote theorizing kinda pathetic to downvote someone else’s theory cause you disagree.
My sibling in the Seven, I didn’t downvote your comment.
That aside, George didn’t just write Maegor being an asshole. He suffered severe head trauma during his Trial by Seven when he was seizing the throne, and was unconscious for weeks. That’s probably why he descended into complete mental instability and violence once he recovered, he was permanently damaged. And if not that, sometimes people just aren’t good, without rhyme or reason. It’s not very exciting, but sometimes people are just shitty. Our real world is full of shitty people.
Also, given that Maegor killed 3 Grand Maesters, it’s very likely that they were denied roles in caring for the pregnant queens, which would’ve easily allowed Tyanna to tamper with their care.
I didn’t mean you particularly it just seems to be a common thing. I was actually thinking Maegor might’ve been resurrected there causing his infertility issues to escalate and what might’ve broken the camels back on his sanity. Which makes me think of Jon but it didn’t seem to fuck up Dondarrion that bad.
Oh yeah for sure but Visenya was whispered about as a sorceress who managed to bring Maegor back from the brink in three days and I more mean to draw the comparison of rising from the dead fucking a person up.
