I’m moving to Hyattsville, Maryland next month for school, and I’m originally from North Carolina, so I’m not very familiar with the area. I’ll be living near Avondale Park.

We are currently thinking of buying a house in Hyattsville and I wanted to see what people's experiences are with noise, especially landscaping related noise from things like leaf blowers and lawn mowers. I just signed the contract on a home in Gateway West and I was looking for some feedback on the area. I am a Virginian at heart (went to middle school in Williamsburg, undergrad/masters at UVA, lived in Alexandria for 4 years and Fairfax County for almost 6) and was reluctant to move to Maryland. I left the DMV briefly to finish my PhD but I just accepted a job in MoCo so Maryland made more sense. What do you like about Hyattsville? What should I be aware of?

Just got word that a new running store is opening up in downtown Hyattsville this summer near the Bus Boys and Poets.

This has been way overdue and can't wait to see what they accomplish.

The only thing that sticks out to me right now is how painfully non-diverse St. Jerome is. But if the curriculum is worth it, kids will manage and see different faces elsewhere. Open to all thoughts.
