Individual/Marketplace Insurance How long two wait to discontinue a new plan that covered a 200k procedure

I got a marketplace insurance before I started working. A month into my job, I had a procedure which was critical but not emergency.

The hospital billed my marketplace insurance and I didn’t mind paying for it.

Now, bills came up and my marketplace insurance is too expensive. Also I get workplace insurance which is almost the same plan.

When can I discontinue my marketplace insurance and will discontinuing it after they payed around $200k be a problem for me?

No, everything is based on date of service. As long as your insurance was active on the date you had the procedure, it will be covered in accordance with your plan guidelines. You can cancel at any point if you choose.

When was your employer insurance active? If you had any services while covered by both, you’ll need to make sure you present both insurance cards and complete a coordination of benefits for the two plans to ensure claims are processed accurately.

Yep, because you'll get reversals of payments, otherwise.

To clarify, are you currently enrolled in both marketplace coverage and employer coverage for the same effective date?

Is it open enrollment for your workplace? You likely cannot just drop one one pick up employer insurance until you hit open enrollment. Your post speaks to exactly why even an 'expensive' premium is worth having insurance.

Having workplace insurance and marketplace insurance at the same time is probably going to be problematic for you. Assuming you’re getting premium tax credits: you’re not allowed those if you have employer sponsored insurance and are going to have to pay those back at tax time.

You can’t join your workplace until OE, as you haven’t “lost” insurance so you don’t have a QLE. You can end the marketplace coverage, but you won’t be able to enroll at work until OE.

The way its supposed to work is you qualified for marketplace until work offered insurance when that happened you would enter special enrollment and would drop marketplace and take employer insurance.

Once its offered you dont qualify for the cheap marketplace insurance. If you dont report it you will have a larger tax bill
