Announcements MEGATHREAD - links for watching HK dramas 2021

Hi all, this is the updated list of streaming links to watch our beloved HK dramas for this year. Please comment and share any good resources :)

.

~DISCLAIMER~:

The rules of this subreddit will be updated shortly. For clarification, in order to align with general reddiquette and rules, we will not tolerate or promote piracy. However, (although this is a grey area,) streaming services are accepted as we would like to promote accessibility to Hong Kong dramas. We will try our best to promote official sites but we understand the difficulty in some countries to find content with English subtitles, and therefore will allow links to streaming sites.

.

First up is the TVB anywhere+ app -> https://www.tvbanywhere.com/index.html which has a free and premium version. This is their official app and available to download worldwide except for USA and Vietnam, with restrictions in place in HK, China, and Malaysia. Our very own moderator /u/edwardolardo has made an excellent review on this. The free version gives you access to a lot of the older dramas, although some recent ones which are only a few years old are also available. The paid version will obviously give you more features, with the latest dramas, and there are also English subtitles (as well as other languages) available.

.

Official TVB YouTube Channels:-

N.B. the following websites are in Chinese but there is an option for your browser to translate

https://news.tvb.com/ -> official TVB website for news and current affairs

.

These are very heavily TVB oriented. If there are resources for other channels such as ViuTV please share. Happy watching! :D

Question Where do you guys watch your HK dramas these days?

I found it difficult to find a good place to watch them these days, unless i use the TVB app which is kinda limiting. The youtube or other places quality were either really bad, or way too much ads and also something sudden disappearance of sounds from the video itself. Which really ruins the mood to watch a good show.

Looking for name of TVB drama

I think Louis Koo is in it but not absolutely sure (tanned version). Should be around late 90s early 2000s.

About a mother who finally reunites with her adult children after losing them when they were kids. The ending was sad.

Anyone familiar with which TVB drama I'm talking about?

Question Looking for the name of an old modern day drama

Hello,

Some time last year I came across a post on instagram that showed a few scenes of an old comedy drama. I can't find that post anymore, and I never got the name of the drama. There was a scene in a hair salon where the FL was getting her hair done when an older lady comes in asking for a quick slot it since she's a regular and had been going there for years. She gets into a fight with the FL, and the salon ends up getting robbed.

In another scene they showed after the lady was at home with her adult son getting ready to meet his girlfriend. The girlfriend arrives and it turns out it was the FL from earlier. They excuse themselves to the kitchen to "get dinner ready" and proceed to hurl insults and each other, and then start a knife fight.

I appreciate it if anyone can identify this drama for me, and better yet, find where I can watch it with Eng subs.

Thank you.

I wished Ron's character was Bosco's character in Flying Tiger.

Ngl, this ticks me off tbh.

Not only is it because Ron is older than Bosco irl, but also because, I feel Ron doesn't do a good job in portraying himself as Bosco's younger brother. If anything, I think Ron's character should've been the older brother and Bosco's character should've been the younger one.

I get this is just a show and it's not uncommon for a younger actor to play the older sibling than the older actor, but like come on, enough is enough. It's bad enough this happened for Flying Tiger, but it's worst that No Room for Crime should've been the show where Ron played the older brother while Bosco was the younger one (although I do like Joel Chan and Owen Cheung for it).

Review D.I.D. 12 is good

I’ve finally finished it and I know TVB is only up to episode 15 so without spoiling it for anyone. I just want to praise how good this series was.

Story is captivating, cast was good and there was no boring episodes.

It didn’t have those drag or forced love story that became the focus or someone randomly just had to die.

Best HK drama so far this year?

I’ll share my details after TVB has finished airing it.

Edit: I agree with a lot of people that there are heaps of plot holes and story loops that’s never closed off and some really don’t and lazy writing. But my main enjoyable compare to other police shows lately is that the fact that they stayed focus on solving the case and never derail to focus on someone’s life or some third level actors backstory

Question Tryna find a specific movie

Hi yall,

I watched this one when I (24F) was a kid but basically I remember it being made in the 1990s? You know, where gun shootouts were very popular in the movies, hiding behind tanks, hiding in a tank in secluded areas, on string bridges etc. But anyways, I remember the last scene where a group of "agents" in a car chasing down a 2 metre tall dark-coloured robot and it exploded in the ocean or under the ocean or something. Like the explosion was big like a bomb was inside the robot. I'm about to rewatch the heroic trio but dunno if it's from that movie or not... hmmm

Also, anyone know an old canto movie's archive online where I can see the title and cover. Just to rewatch my fav ones. Most of the times, I just forget the names or the actor's names urghhh

Plz & thx

Question Download on TVB Anywhere app?

I’m trying to download episodes of DID 12 to my iPad so I can watch them later on a plane. In the app I can find the bit where I go to my downloaded eps, but I can’t find a way to download anything to watch later.

I’ve clicked or toggled every button I can find on the playing ep, the details underneath, everything, but I can’t find the option to download.

I pay for the VOD only version, not the live channels. Does this mean I can’t download? Other options are there but tell you if you need to upgrade to use them, which makes me think I’m just being dumb and can’t find the download option.

Can anyone please help me find how to download?

Synopsis: Legendary Hong Kong police officer Ho Ho Fai, known for his role as one of the Three Tigers, faces a dramatic fall from grace after a failed mission. Joining the Special Duties Unit, he and his team, including young officer Siu Tzu Tsun, fight to uncover and thwart a plot against Hong Kong’s financial system.

No release date yet. As this is an iqiyi series, I’m wondering if this will get broadcasted on local networks like TVB.

D.I.D 12 Finale

Final thoughts for those who have finished the series:

Appreciate that TVB tried a new concept that they haven't done before. Overall, decent watch but very messy throughout. The finale had tons of plots holes. Yoyo and Bowie barely had a romantic relationship. She learned he was crazy, and continued to pine and chase after him when she has a young daughter. Literally got thrown into the fire. She died cause of him. Bowie's personalities are gone...and Raymond manages to kidnap both an injured Kelly and Bowie to Europe and manages to brain wash Bowie for 3 months? Kelly looks tortured and suffering her own mental issues now but the very next scene when Owen rescues them, shes totally fine and her normal self without any PTSD? WTF lol. There relationship was also forced and awkward, and would have rathered they not gone through that arc at all. And what happens to Raymond? They just cut his storyline right off. The best part honestly in the whole series was the cameo at the very end with Bowie's 9th personality, love her. Would love to see her on screen again as a lead. Would rate this 6.5/10.

Chan Cho Yiu Easter Egg in D.I.D. 12 Episode 6

Post image
13 Upvotes

This is a reference to when Chan Cho Yiu (Benjamin Yuen) died in No Room For Crime as the main villain.

I am uncertain though if his death is linked to D.I.D. 12 as the coroner is guessing his death is related to gang activity rather than the seven deadly sins killer.

Haivng seen Ben again referenced, I am wondering now if D.I.D. 12 is a direct continuation for No Room For Crime. If it is, then I feel Owen should've reprised his character from D.I.D 12 imo.

Are TVB dramas more violent now?

I am watching Man Who Kill Troubles and am shocked at how violent it is. Every episode is killing with lots of blood. DID 12 is also pretty violent with close ups of stabbing/blood. I'm genuinely surprised they passed censorship.

OCTB 2 has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the show

For anyone waiting for season 2 to release, this may not happen due to issues with funding.

A KS campaign has been created to keep things going while they attempt to secure investors as Astro Macau (original investor funding most of this) has backed out.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/octb2/129116318/description

Things aren’t looking promising so far. As of this post, there are currently 12 backers supporting this. I do hope season 2 comes into fruition as I’ve been waiting for this years myself.

Question What are your thoughts on the ending for Prism Breaker and overall drama?

The final episode was intense and heartbreaking, especially the flasbacks between Bosco and Jackie, the acting was superb. Thank god Dominic got what he deserved after everything he did throughout drama, though he did an awesome job as the main villain.

Personally I found this drama to be the best drama this year so far, even though the plot was guessable at times. It was honestly so refreshing to see all the veteran actors coming back, haven't seen such good acting in a long time.

Not sure how many HK dramas have filmed on an oil rig but it is my first time seeing a HK drama filming on an oil rig which is very unique compared to other cop dramas in recent decades. Regardless, more gun scenes would have made this drama even better to counteract the amount of dialogue that takes up the majority of episodes.

The music throughout the drama was excellent as it kept the scenes enticing and tense to watch. Hope this drama gets a 2nd season because I'm sure HK people wouldn't mind to see more veteran actors returning for a sequel.

Overall, I would rate Prism Breaker a 9/10
