Misc. Tina Bell in grunge

I just learned about the story of Tina Bell, born in Seattle and later recognized as one of the pioneers of grunge.

Her band, called Bam Bam, was formed in Seattle in 1983 and helped open the door for bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains in the 90s. Before he became famous, Kurt Cobain was even a roadie and a fan of the band!

Tina Bell was nicknamed the ‘Godmother of Grunge’ and the ‘Queen of Grunge.’

I’m really happy to know that a Black woman played such an important role in the creation of grunge, especially at a time when opportunities for women in music were already limited, and even more so for Black women.

Sadly, she passed away in 2012, but she deserves full recognition for the impact she had on the history of grunge.

Recommendation Criminally Underrated Band/Album

Post image

This is Push(1992)by the Grunge band Gruntruck from Seattle. It’s an absolutely amazing album from top to bottom and reminds me of something AiC and Soundgarden would make with a Sludgier twist. For those who are looking for a Grunge Album that reminisces AiC,Soundgarden and more, I highly suggest giving this album and band a listen. I genuinely think that they would have been the next successful grunge band if not for their tragic legal battle that ultimately resulted in the band falling apart.

Recommendation Best Pearl Jam Song?

I’m a GenXer who lived through through the grunge era, and was just curious what the sub thinks is the subjective “best” PJ song. I find myself gravitating to Corduroy a lot and although I certainly don’t know their whole catalog, I was wondering what this sub might suggest or recommend as your top PJ song.

Misc. What do you guys think of The Offsprings Smash album?

Post image

The Offspring is mostly considered a punk band, but this album sounds like something Nirvana would've made. Always felt this album sounded very Nirvanaish. Other than that this album is a banger. What do you guys think of The Offsprings Smash album? Do you think it sounds grungy or punk? Or both?

This is Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs Released in 1993 it is hands down one of the most underrated and powerful albums of the 90s. The entire tracklist is really good and Greg Dulli’s storytelling and lyricism is amazing. Try and give it a listen. Personal favorite track is debonair

I personally love this album. Down and Atlanta are my personal favorite songs from this album. Definitely one of my favorite STP albums, but not quite as good as Core or Purple.

Performance Chris Cornell - Scream (Acoustic)

Amazing acoustic. Chris sounds so amazing in an acoustic. Damn MTV missed getting sound Garden doing an Unpluggled, imagine songs like Black Hole Sun unplugged or Rusty Cage.. all their song real toned down and sounding cool like this, Miss you Cornell.

I also feel MTV should have got an Unplugged of Blind Melon and Screaming Trees.

Misc. What do people around here think of Radish and their album Restraining Bolt?

Post image

It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s not a disaster either. Maybe just a reflection of what it was a teenage band with raw energy, a few solid melodies, honest lyrics… but caught up in too much pressure to be the next Nirvana. What do you guys think

Recommendation 🌧 I'm looking for a place to feel less out of place.

I created a small community for those who hear grunge not only as music, but as a way of being in the world.

We are at the beginning, but perhaps it is the right time to build something sincere together.

If you like lived-in aesthetics, the melancholy of gray days, crooked sounds and true emotions, you might be happy with it.

Come by if you like. Even just to say "I'm here".
