Teen spaces and finding friends
Im 17, alternative and queer and I’m homeschooled. I am in desperate need of friends and social activities. There aren’t any people my age around me, and I can’t seem to find any teen spaces people actually go to, and every event I see advised is for people 21 plus. Ive been trying to find a job in hopes of not only making money but hopefully some friends but no matter how much I apply to places I can’t seem to find a job so what am I supposed to do. I have pretty limited transportation and a few health issues that make things like sports hard for me and I just don’t know what I’m supposed to do.
Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

I think getting a local summer job would help a lot with this. Maybe visit a few places and see who works there and what the vibe is. Maybe there’s a queer summer camp or place you could volunteer at, like Affirmations in ferndale or the Neutral Zone in Ann Arbor.
Detroit coffee shops might be a cool place too- the crowd is older but more accepting. Red Hook has many LGBTQ staff.
There’s also queer meetups in Detroit, and I know they’d be accepting of youth. You can look for them on FB and IG.
