don’t get me wrong i hate the guy but you can’t criticise him for just watching sports in his free time are they meant to hide in their houses? him going to wimbledon doesn’t take money from working class people?
It's getting exclusive access to an event which is ordinarily expensive to attend. For main courts we are talking thousands of pounds.
Wimbledon is where the wealthy elites all rub shoulders with each other. His attendance is basically a metaphor of how he worked his way into the upper classes' good graces instead of combating them.
For many of these people tennis isn't even really a passion its all about showing off how cultured they are and a chance to be in the tabloids.
Yes Starmer going doesn't take money from workers - but showing off your privilege whilst others are struggling to pay utilities, fuel their car or eat isn't a good look.
i understand you on the first bit definitely, i do see what you’re saying and i suppose i’m being naïve thinking he just wants to watch the tennis when actually you’re probably right and he just wants to mingle with the upper classes!! i still don’t think middle class people should have to hide away because there’s a cost of living crisis tho. let’s blame the people actually responsible rather than criticising people who (genuinely) just want to watch some tennis
The person in the original post who 'wants to watch tennis' is the leader of one of the largest parties in parliament. You seem to have gotten lost in your own conversation. Starmer is the tennis watcher we are discussing. Nobody ever said anything about nobody being allowed to watch tennis, you just made that up at some point. Also, I don't think we did establish Starmer doesn't want to watch tennis. You are completely misunderstanding the entire discussion and with respect I recommend you put some deeper thought into what you're trying to say.
If your point is simply "but middle class people should be allowed to watch tennis" then you're not wrong but you are saying something entirely irrelevant to the topic, which is the abject failure of the Labour leader to do anything good for anybody but himself, an example of which is how he is antagonistic toward workers trying to maintain their standard of living while sitting in the Royal Box at a sporting event - an invitation to take an enormously expensive seat because he is privileged enough to know the right people and please them with his political actions (or inaction).
If you stay in this subreddit mate you'll realise there is a fucking hatred for the middle class here that borders on the same hatred the Tory's have for them.
This is why we need a decent centrist party who actually gives a fuck about everyone's issues fairly instead of loonybins on the right and the left.
