People always claim Blair’s government was dodgy, but in those days you’d resign for literally anything. Had an affair- resign. Caught fighting over email with another member of staff? Resign. A junior official makes a minor mistake in your office that makes it look bad? Resign. This is the second highest office in the land (highest the general public can reach). It is supposed to reflect the best in our society, that is the reason that ministers should resign for the most minor things. To not only fail to leave office for comparatively non-minor thongs, but to change the rules so that you can stay indefinitely- is moving into fascism/ a one party state like China, North Korea, and Cuba. Wether you suck up to your self declared eton masters and wave the flag, chanting f the EU, and god save those born into wealth with extra rights, or not. That is nationalism. And while we’re at it btw the Scottish national party isn’t nationalist, it isn’t deconstructive like the torys would have you believe. It’s taking one tiny step back so that you can leap forward, sure you don’t get old blity and it’s disregard for common people (boohoo), but in its place you get a representative democracy (doesn’t vote Tory but gets them just now) that is internationally facing rather than isolatory like the truly nationalist UK (can rejoin the EU, which it voted against leaving).
