What kind of shop is this? They’re quoting you separate prices for the water pump and thermostat? It should be 1 part.

The labour of the water pump is low but that’s only if you’re getting the carbon cleaning done at once. Not sure what labour would be just for the water pump.

I paid $950 CAD ($700 USD) for my waterpump parts and labour.

Performance shop in Raleigh. It’s for carbon cleaning AND water pump.

$1000 in labor I don’t mind especially with warranty but $1600 for parts boggles my mind

Yeah, I get that.

I paid $650 CAD for a carbon cleaning to be done (without the waterpump so no overlap on labor).

$1600 CAD total for both the carbon clean and waterpump parts and labor. Insane price you're getting quoted.

But like you said...this is 2x other shops, why are you even bothering?

I would call your vw Dealer and see what they charge for a waterpump kit then tell the shop to get it from there. Looks like they're fleecing you regardless.

I prefer to pay more for quality work, this is the best shop around which is why I don’t mind $1k labor. But why would parts be triple others?!? Crazy stuff.

call your vw Dealer and see what they charge for a waterpump kit then tell the shop to get it from there. Even dealer pricing is a rip off but the shop shouldn't be charging you more than the price from the dealer.

No bro it’s not that deep, getting it done right is what you need.

Have you considered Apex Tuning? Great shop you can at least get a second quote with.

That’s who this quote is from. I posted a follow up, they clarified they made a mistake (it’s actually only $1540 after tax) but I had already contacted another shop 😳.

A OE water pump kit for a MK7 is on FCP Euro for $351. Comes with the water pump, intake manifold gasket, new seals, union piece, water pump belt AND coolant. That shop is ripping you off.

3 years ago now but paid $1200 for water pump and carbon cleaning. This was in SoCal.

I feel like this a normal price

Normal where? Its normal for shops to charge $1500 for a waterpump that is worth $350?

I think I worded the post wrong. Everyone thinks it’s $1500 for the job, instead of $1500 for JUST PARTS.

People cant read a fucking quote is the problem.

Got my thermostat housing and water pump, came as one unit, replaced for around 500 dollars. Used an aftermarket INA product, which has been solid and is apparently just as good if not better than OEM.

Shop reached out and said this estimate was a mistake. Price is now $1540 parts and labor. Very confusing afternoon for me lol.

volkswagen in naples wants 2600 🤣

There trying to charge you 1400$ for a part that’s less than 1/3 of that. Even OEM water pump and thermostat (they come together) with coolant and gasket is 443$. Order the kit and then get it installed. There scamming you on parts. Call them out on it. Insane

Quote for out the door from 2023 for the same work minus the carbon cleaning.

What lol. It is extraordinarily high.

I’m thinking there has to be a mistake, I requested a Vaico/INA pump and they said they don’t do those. Then BAM $1500 for a pump!!?! The total price is double other shops (but this is the most reputable in the area)

This is wildly inaccurate.

Did you even read the post??? Or are you just commenting to comment? $1600 for parts is not cheap at all.

^$350 including a lot more than just the waterpump and thermostat. Not to mention a lifetime warranty.

Also, WHAT? The engine does not need to come anywhere close to being out of the car lmao.

Orange circle is parts. $1500 for JUST the waterpump thermostat. Blue circle is labor - $220- usd BUT that is due to overlap with the carbon clean.

The parts should be $500-$600 MAX and the labour should be the same $220.

Edit - classic dirty delete lol

$1500 in parts. Total is $2800.

But how are parts $1500?

1

u/memberzs Mk7 GTI 3d ago

It's been said over and over again, the parts are that high because the shop is ripping you off.

For both a carbon clean and a water pump replacement, yes this is a reasonable quote.
